Quick Links
Greetings!

Can you believe it that we are already into our 3rd month of what was just called the New Year? I seem to be amazed often lately that time is flying by so quickly. We have been busy making preparations for the Worldwide HT Conference (Aug 14 -17 in Chicago - hope we will see you there!), the HTPA Annual Report and the HTPA Membership Meeting (May 22nd - see further details below). When working on plans for the later part of the year, it always seems to make the year appear shorter and go faster. It's all so exciting that it's easy to get caught up in the future.

ncca logo This year has certainly started with a HUGE Bang! I was fortunate to be physically present when Lisa Gordon found out that Healing Touch Program had received National Accreditation by NCCA (National Commission for Certifying Agencies). We were so happy (after the years of working on the application) that we literally started Jumping for JOY!! Then for the next several hours we kept saying "do you believe it??" Oh, what FUN - Congrats to HTP and THANK YOU to all who made this possible!! Stay tuned for our May "Live" Interview when Lisa will tell us just why this new accreditation is such an important accomplishment not just for Healing Touch Certified Practitioners but for all in the expanding profession of Energy Medicine.

We also have lots of other GOOD news: at the HTWF Board Meeting in January we presented the idea of HTPA and HTWF partnering to do Heel to Heal Runs through our Local HTPA Chapters and the idea was unanimously approved. Look for more details on how you can get involved; we had a terrific response to the HTPA Membership Drive. Thanks to Lisa and Erin Harris (her helper in the Office) a first ever (for us) video got lots of attention and produced a great result. If you haven't seen it yet you can now: short (3 minute) video We gained approx. 300 members and will be having future events like that; just recently we had such an impressive response and result to the call for action to thwart two Bills that were headed for the MD Legislature that would have limited Energy Medicine practice. The petition that was sent out rec'd more than 5,000 signatures in about 48 hours! (See more details about this below); HTPA has gotten approval to sponsor bringing Sgt JoJoe to the Worldwide HT Conference (this is an amazing life-size Blue Elephant that is a reminder to us about the children of military persons as they are often not considered when we think of those who are affected by war, etc.). Read on below for more good news.

Here's to another GREAT year. So far it has us in a recurring theme of Soaring to New Heights. We hope you are having a great year too. Send us your GOOD news - we'd love to know what is going on in your life and your healing practice.

TOGETHER, We are the Heart of Healing Touch,

Report on the Success of Petitioning
to Stop Legislation Limiting the Practice of Energy Medicine
On Friday, February 14th HTP sent an email to the Healing Touch Community letting them know that in the state of Maryland there were two bills that were going to hearing that would make it illegal to practice Energy Medicine unless you carried certifications from specific organizations.

Krista Hall, HTCP/I notified HTP of the pending bills and asked if HTP could help. HTP turned to their resources and called Denise Premschak the CEO of Voice for Hope for advice. Denise in turn introduced them to Diane Miller of the National Health Freedom Coalition (NHFC) and National Health Freedom Action (NHFA).

With Diane's support, HTP quickly created a petition to ask the Senators to not limit the practice of Energy Practitioners and to look at some sample bills that would instead protect the right of consumers to have access to energy work and protect practitioners'  right to practice.

With the amazing support of practitioners around the country and even internationally,  5497 signatures were collected and in a very short amount of time!

The Senator sponsoring the legislation understood our concern, felt the strength of the Energy Medicine community, and withdrew the bills.

Lisa Gordon commented, " I am so proud of our community for taking action. We would like to thank everyone that stepped up to protect the practice of Energy Medicine for all modalities.  We have a powerful network!"

One more thing to note: With HTP's new accreditation through NCCA they were willing to add Healing Touch to the list of approved modalities. We felt very secure in knowing that Healing Touch would be allowed to be practiced in Maryland, but felt it was important to continue to oppose the bill since it would have limiting effects on other modalities.

HTP and HTPA feel a responsibility to keep a watch on legislation that affects our industry. We are exploring ways that we can keep ourselves and our community notified. If you are interested in receiving announcements or alerts about future political efforts please follow this link and add yourself to the new Political Action List hosted through Energy Medicine Professionals Insurance (EMPI) and the Healing Touch Professional Association. If you are already on the mailing list you will be prompted to update your profile.

HTPA MONTHLY "LIVE" INTERVIEW

HTPA Practitioner and Business Support "Live" Interview

Tuesday April 8, 2014 9pm Eastern

Top Tips and Tools - Healing for You;
Healing for Your Business

with Camille Leon, Founder and Executive Director
of the Holistic Chamber of Commerce

Many of us know about helping and healing others... Are we good at helping and healing ourselves, especially our businesses? Most often the answer to that question is no! If this rings true for you, you won't want to miss our Interview with Camille. She has a personal story of exploring holistic healing for herself during a time when she was faced with serious health challenges. Her eventual success in overcoming her health issues led to her creation of the Holistic Chamber of Commerce and her current position as its Executive Director.

Camille believes that the three key components of life - personal and professional - are time, energy and money and that relationships are often interwoven with all three. She is going to share her top tips, tools and techniques for managing yours that can lead to your personal and professional growth and expansion!

In a recent conversation with Camille it was discovered that she also has a passion for educating holistic healers about the need to understand the reasons why it is appropriate that they not be required to have a license. It is to our benefit to know how to language the issue of  certification vs licensure so that when faced with questions about this we can clearly explain why energy practice does not call for licensure and why it is false to think that if only we had a path to being licensed we would be taken more seriously.

During our Interview with Camille she will tell us about how she created The Holistic Chamber of Commerce (HCC) along with how she has made it such a huge growing success during tough financial times. Learning about The HCC which was created to be a bridge to new solutions for everyone who would like to learn more about complementary, integrative, holistic and eco-friendly options and solutions, will open all of us to a network of referrals, resources and support. To date there are approximately 50 local Chamber Chapters so it's likely there is an opportunity for you to meet and network with HCC members in your area.

Camille says: "We are here to support each other and you, to teach each other how to make a living helping people.  Together, we can collaborate to achieve our goal of healthier people on a happier planet!" She believes in a healthier and happier world through our choices. Finding solutions to today's challenges and making it easier to choose the best ones is her passion and her business.

Join us for this enlightening discussion so you can share your thoughts and ask your questions of Camille.

WE ARE PROUD TO HAVE OUR MEMBERS
SUPPORTING HEALING TOUCH TO THE MILITARY

HTPA is supporting Healing Touch to the Military. We provided over $2,000 funding in 2013 through our HTWF Designated Fund and are happy to share Stand Down experiences reported by two of our HTPA members, Susan Russell, HTCP/I and Nanette Sagastume, HTCP.  Susan was the Lead Organizer for four November Stand Downs in Texas: Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio and Sherman. Nanette organized Healing Touch to Viet Nam Vets at their Annual Reunion which was held in Arlington, VA this year. We are especially proud of our Healing Touch leaders and volunteers!

What was the experience like? In the words of Susan Lockhart, from the Dallas Event, "Every Veteran I saw left with a smile and bliss on their faces........... One got up and immediately said: 'I want this EVERY day.' The changes in these Veterans are amazing and fills one's heart with love and gratitude."

Here are snippets from each event:

Dallas:
This was our fourth opportunity to participate in the Dallas Texas event, organized by the North Texas VA System. Seven Volunteers, providing 28 hours of time, gave Healing Touch mini sessions to 38 grateful Veterans and Support Staff. All recipients gave us positive feedback, as did the event organizers. We were given a large, quiet room which amplified the work. We got word at the end of the day that we would be invited back next year.

Lee Campbell at Dallas Stand Down  /  Second Photo Dallas Stand Down HT Practitioners: Ashley Hardman, June Cook, Kris Sands, Susan Lockhart, Karen Russell, Gilda Campbell

Fort Worth:
We were given our own very large, quiet room, as well as a VA manager to man our table, directing participants to our space. We gave sessions, some 2on1 but most 1on1, to 24 participants. We gave numerous sessions to VA support staff who work directly with the homeless transitional housing. We got word at the end of the day that we would be invited back next year.

San Antonio:
This was the second year to participate in the San Antonio Stand Down. They provided HT mini sessions of Mind Clearing, Pain Drain and Magnetic Passes: HIM & HS, to 18 participants in chairs under a big-top tent in the parking lot of the American GI Forum. The event organizers misunderstood our request, so we did not get much space resulting in us giving HT sessions in chairs rather than on tables. We were well received and told we would be invited back next year.

San Antonio Stand Down, HT Practitioners are: Marie Miller, Army RN VietNam &
HTP2 student and Susan Russell, HTCP/I

Arlington:

Arlington VA HT Practitioners: Tammy Askins, Nanette Sagastume,
Kathy and Mark Costa.

The location of the reunions varies across the country and this year it was held in Arlington, Virginia. For the fourth year in a row, Nanette was privileged to organize a Healing Touch event for the Vietnam Veterans of Second Battalion First Marines (her husband's unit) at their annual reunion. She says she was so fortunate to receive the help of local (and not so local) Healing Touch volunteers who assisted over the course of three afternoons. Many volunteers travelled from southern Virginia (approximately a three- to four-hour drive). One out-of-town volunteer spent the night in order to help again the next day; one local volunteer turned her original two-day commitment into helping all three days and even lent  a massage table for the duration of the event. One helped on the afternoon before she had to be at a Level 4 class two states away. These volunteers came just because they wanted to do something for those who had served our country. Healing Touch has been a part of the reunions since 2010; as a result, there is a growing group of attendees who seek HT out. One gentleman came every day!  HTPA made their volunteer aprons available, which gave us a smart, professional appearance.

Arlington VA HT Practitioners: Dottie Graham, Barbara Binney, Toni Cacioppo, Nanette Sagastume, Debbie Woodell, and Tammy Askins.

Over the three afternoons we gave sessions to more than sixty-five veterans and their family members, with some significant client responses. One woman whose brow was furrowed and jaw tense came in with a "ten" in anxiety (out of zero-to-ten) and left twenty minutes later with a smooth brow, a smile on her face, and a stress level that had dropped to "four." Headaches and back aches were improved and in many cases, relieved for days. It is astounding what even a short session of Healing Touch can accomplish!

This event would not have been successful without the help of: Tammy Askins, Barbara Binney, Toni Cacioppo, Kathy and Mark Costa (Mark is himself a retired Marine), Claudia Florez, Dottie Graham, and Debbie Woodell.

Nanette says she looks forward to organizing Healing Touch at the next reunion in Charleston, South Carolina in 2014!

Pleasanton, California

Suzanne Mittica, HTCP, will again be co-coordinating Healing Touch Service at the East Bay Stand Down (EBSD) September 11-14, 2014. The EBSD started in 1999 and is held at the Alameda Fair Grounds. The Stand Down serves homeless and at risk veterans and their dependents from a nine county area. The Wellness tent joined the Stand Down in 2010; Suzanne says that it is truly gratifying to see Magnetic Clearing and basic pain techniques achieve visible changes, and have changes commented on by the veterans, usually with some degree of astonishment mixed with gratitude. Chaplains and Tent Leaders encourage vets to try out HT and other modalities and participants themselves will bring a new friend or buddy after their own experience.  On average, somewhere between 40 and 45% of the veterans and dependents attending the Stand Down receive Healing Touch.

Kathy Moreland Layte, MScN, HTCP/I is an Advocate for the Rights of Families and Children living with FASD

Sometimes life happens and our practitioners /instructors need to put their efforts into issues that seem far removed from Healing Touch. Kathy Moreland Layte, HTCP/I, our Chair of Research Advisory is the mother of two adopted children with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). This permanent, preventable disability is brain damage from a birth mother ingesting alcohol during any point of pregnancy. It is often invisible (no facial features) and therefore the children with it go undiagnosed but have major issues with learning delays, language processing, behavior management etc. Many of the children end up with secondary mental health issues, 60% of those with aggression end up in trouble with the law. There are few supports in any country.

As a nurse, Kathy has become a political advocate for change in her province of Ontario, Canada working with her "other" professional association The Registered Nurses of Ontario (RNAO). See the link to the article that features her other passion. (note: The RNAO would not disclose the children's diagnoses in the article). Healing Touch has certainly kept her grounded for this battle.

LIABILITY INSURANCE FOR YOUR PRACTICE!
Healing Touch Program and HTPA believe that all students, volunteers, practitioners and instructors need to carry Professional Liability Insurance for their practice. Even when you do your absolute best work and through no fault on your part, there is always some risk that someone with whom you interact, or their family, could file a claim against you. Without Professional Liability Insurance, you would have to pay for your own legal defense and any potential settlement costs.

HTPA Member Liability Insurance Program has been specifically tailored for Healing Touch practitioners and instructors, including other related modalities. Because our modality is non-invasive the cost of Liability Insurance in our field is very affordable. The policy that we offer renews every April. This includes malpractice, general liability coverage and more.

Flower Door Hanger - Words on the front are: Welcome, Healing Touch Session About to Begin. Words on the back are: Quiet Please, Healing Touch Session in Progress.

As one person wrote -

"I love this door hanger! I use the one you sent with the HT Association Membership. I work on the oncology floor of Longmont United Hospital as a Healing Touch Practitioner. The door hanger is invaluable to my practice. Nurses and, yes, even physicians are very respectful of this sign and do not enter a patient's room while they are receiving a Healing Touch Session. Wonderful Idea!!! Thank you!"

Share them with your Healing Touch practice group or community, take them to a healthcare facility that is offering Healing Touch, or use them on your own treatment room door. Order yours today through the Healing Touch Store.

10 of one design - $8.50
10 of each design (20 total) - $15.00

Individual hangers - $1.00

Clearing the Air -- A Ceremony of Forgiveness So
Everyone Can Breathe A Little Easier

null
Thursday, March 20th, 8:30am-9:30am,Los Angeles, CA, U.S. time, we will hold a  ceremony to "clear the air." As we create a field of loving forgiveness for the air of earth, we do the same for ourselves.

Click on this link to register for this powerfully healing call. You will receive dial-in information for the call and a webcast link in case you prefer to listen via the internet.

We are intentionally invoking the double meaning of "clearing the air," because we recognize the relationship between air pollution and "airwaves pollution." So, will chanting a chant of forgiveness together with the intention of healing help? "Research has proven that changes in solar/geomagnetic activity can effect our emotions and collective behavior..." Check out this link for more information on this topic: http://www.glcoherence.org

Join with us and add YOUR voice to the ceremony, and send the vibrations of love, wholeness, coherence and healing the air of the world, and ourselves. And please share this with your community, so that thousands and thousands of voices harmonize as one! Celeste Yacoboni will lead the ceremony with Chanting. You can get a 5 minute download of the chant by going to Celeste's site, http://howdoyoupray.com/.
