Letter from the Healing Touch Program Director

Dear Healing Touch Community,
November Greetings!!! It is the season of Thanksgiving in North America. As a worldwide community, HT Program has much to be grateful for. A few exciting and important items will be kept for a Christmas/Solstice/Hanukkah surprise, but in the meantime, I have the delight of sharing some others! Our recent Level 6 Instructor class was held in Boulder, Colorado, where I live. We hold two Level 6 classes per year and our number of HTP instructors is around 120 worldwide! Here is the photo of both new and repeating HT Instructors for this class!  Besides having a psychotherapist and three nurses (one in a leadership position within the Sentara Hospital System), HTP is proud to have trained our first male surgeon (yes, surgeon!). We already have several wonderful male instructors. With many  health care professionals as HTP instructors, and our 2013 release of the 350+ page Healing Touch Integrative Care Program Manual (endorsed by Barbie Dossey and Jean Watson, world-esteemed nursing leaders in holistic health care), HTP is making steady headwayinto bringing Healing Touch into American health care systems as part of the shift in health care delivery. Exciting times! Most of you already know that Healing Touch International recently changed their name to Healing Beyond Borders. We are receiving a steady stream of inquires from HTI practitioners/students, along with processing transfers and equivalencies to HTP. I had several informal conversations with some leaders in HTI beginning in the spring, in hopes of their agreeing to an exploratory meeting to consider how we could heal our communities' false division. Lisa Mentgen Gordon sent a formal invitation to the HTI board on September 5th in hopes of conversation, healing and reconciliation. The invitation was rejected, and within a few weeks, HTI changed their business name, eliminating the term Healing Touch. We will keep you posted on further developments and more information. In the meantime, we want to warmly extend an invitation to HTI/HBB community members who would like to explore the Bridge Program for HTI students/practitioners/instructors interested in transferring to and/or certifying with HTP as part of the path toward receiving national accreditation status. We have begun the Healing Touch Professional Association November Membership Drive! To read more about the extensive and supportive offerings of this member-empowered branch of HTP which gives each of you a strong voice, and which is affiliated with many like-minded professional organizations, click here. You will see a lovely video for the membership drive, a new mode of reaching out to our HT community that we are excited about building upon. I am offering another Healing Touch retreat to those who would like to experience a blend of deepening spiritual growth and self care within community, along with personal quiet time at Shadowcliff Retreat Center in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. This is the place where Janet Mentgen was first inspired to create Healing Touch in the mid 1980s, and where she held many retreats and instructor classes. Liability Insurance for Your Practice!
|
Healing Touch Program and HTPA believe that all students, volunteers, practitioners and instructors need to carry Professional Liability Insurance for their practice. Even when you do your absolute best work and through no fault on your part, there is always some risk that someone with whom you interact, or their family, could file a claim against you. Without Professional Liability Insurance, you would have to pay for your own legal defense and any potential settlement costs.  HTPA Member Liability Insurance Program has been specifically tailored for Healing Touch practitioners and instructors, including other related modalities. Because our modality is non-invasive the cost of Liability insurance in our field is very affordable. The policy that we offer renews every April so the prorated rate for five months is only $62.50 for practitioners that are HTPA members - that's under $13 per month. This includes malpractice, general liability coverage and more. Click here to learn more.

| Aprons are Available for All to Use at HT Volunteer Events! |
In response to frequent requests from out HT Community for a way to identify volunteers giving Healing Touch Service at Stand Downs, Welcome Homes, Health Fairs, Conferences, etc. HTPA Community Connections has created a solution; Aprons! All who wish to borrow and utilize these Aprons now have the avenue to do so.
If you have an event that you would like to have the Aprons for, just call the HTP Office (210) 497-5529 and request them. (We will be posting an order form on the HTPA website soon). When you receive the Aprons you will receive a Return Label so that after your event you can easily send them back for others to use. If any of the Aprons need cleaning, they are machine washable - it would be appreciated to do so before returning them.

 Voice for HOPE works to make these "natural" approaches to health an explicit and valued part of national health policy by:
1) tapping into the energy of the nearly one hundred organized "natural" health modalities currently being used by an estimated 200 million Americans, and
2) focusing it onto the national health policy debate by organizing a broad range of individuals and professionals -- an undertaking intended to transcend political identities and affiliations.
Voice for HOPE's purpose is to provide leadership and strategic vision to focus the energy of the "natural" health constituency on the national health reform effort. HOPE's goal is to organize HOPE Builders in each of the nation's 9500 congressional and state legislative districts as guides, helpers and information sources for policy makers - a goal deemed doable by the time health reform efforts are set to climax in 2014.
