Letter from the HTP Program Director
Dear Healing Touch Community,

I recently returned home from the HTP Rocky Mountain Regional Conference held in the Denver area. Along with the conference we held our annual instructor gathering. Attending conference is always uplifting for me as it always feels like a fun and fulfilling family reunion. With so many like-minded and like-hearted students, practitioners and instructors, it seems that we are able to immediately blend our energies into harmony, synchronicity and oneness.

I had the honor to open up Saturday morning with a group Hara Alignment and provide a presentation later in the day on how to engage in body prayer as a way to re-align the hara. Body prayer has been one of my daily spiritual practices for a long time and I've been able to teach it three times over the last year to various Healing Touch audiences with a very enthusiastic response. If this is a topic you are interested in learning more about, or practicing, visit www.BoulderHealingTouch.com and view the two free videos (one on understanding body prayer the other for practice).

HTPA "LIVE" INTERVIEW
                 Sharon R 2
Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013  9pm-10:15pm Eastern
OPEN MIC - "Live" Discussion
"You CAN Create the Business of your Dreams"
facilitated by Sharon Robbins, HTPA Executive Director

Over and over we hear - "If Only............then I could have a successful business and finally make a living doing what I love to do!!"

Does this sound like your mantra? Isn't it time to overcome the "if only" obstacles?
Let's spend some time discussing how we can overcome those obstacles and soar into our dream career. Whether this is your first business or your last, the challenges are surmountable if they can be identified, addressed and solved.

Let's get together and discuss just what some of those "if only" obstacles are.
Some that are commonly voiced are:
  • "if only" we could get 3rd party reimbursement for HT sessions
  • "if only" I lived where there were more people interested in Healing Touch
  • "if only" Reiki wasn't so popular or being offered already in my facility
  • "if only" I was a licensed medical professional
  • "if only" I could get health insurance, I could quit my job
  • "if only" I had marketing skills
  • "if only" selling was easier and more me
  • "if only," if only...................
Are some of these "if onlys" keeping you from manifesting the business you desire??

Come, join the conversation to catapult you from "if only" to "Yes, I Can!"

Let's have an open discussion about YOUR desire to make a living doing what you love to do - Healing Touch and other healing "work." And let's find solutions for your "if onlys."

On this call, we will have Open Mic so everyone who wants to ask questions, share challenges, express needs, tell success stories = can.

Out of this exciting and solution oriented call, we will develop a Master Mind Business Group that will meet virtually to support each other in growing our businesses. If you are not able to attend this call "live," register anyway so you can be included in future communications leading up to the formation of the Master Mind Business Group. Supporting each other to manifest business CAN work but only if YOU choose to participate.

All suggestions on this topic are Welcome - please send your suggestions to HTPA:

HTWF Grant Supports Hospice by the Sea, Inc.'s Aloesēa Program
null A report from Stefanie McKee, Ph.D.
Senior Director, Program Development & Analysis
Hospice by the Sea, Inc
.
  www.hbts.org

The Healing Touch Worldwide Foundation (HTWF) has generously provided continued support to Hospice by the Sea Inc.'s (HBTS) Aloesēa Program. HBTS, a not-for-profit, community-based organization, provides hospice care, palliative care, caregiver support, bereavement counseling and home health agency services throughout Broward and Palm Beach Counties in South Florida since 1978. The goal of HBTS' Aloesēa Program is to heal heart, mind, and spirit. Complementary therapies, including Healing Touch, are part of the program.

Our first HTWF project assessed barriers to our hospice nurses participating in Healing Touch. Nurses are professional caregivers to patients and families and often do not take time for themselves. Despite availability of Healing Touch on-site at HBTS at no-charge, few nurses participated.

A survey was administered to our inpatient hospice unit nurses. The goal was to use survey feedback to develop a program to increase understanding, acceptance, and utilization of Healing Touch to promote self-care.  The program combined education about healing touch along with convenient 10-15 minute "stress buster" Healing Touch sessions, offered at the nursing station.  Read more.

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS
Colorado Flooding
Extensive flooding in the mountains and front range of Colorado from the Wyoming boarder to Denver, and throughout eastern Colorado has taken lives, destroyed hundreds of roads and bridges and forced thousands of people and their pets to leave their homes. We know of many in our Healing Touch community that have been effected by this extreme weather event. We ask that you send healing energy to those in this region. Our hearts go out to everyone in Colorado impacted by the devastating floods.

Grant Funds Healing Touch Classes in VA Hospitals
null Several Veteran Administration hospitals across the country were recipients of a grant that contained monies for the sharing of best practices, namely Healing Touch. The grant monies have all been appropriated to the hospitals and many Healing Touch classes have already been taught this spring and summer, with the rest being taught this fall and early winter. This has been a wonderful opportunity to share Healing Touch with new VA hospitals and staff and has allowed VA facilities who already are utilizing Healing Touch to continue move forward with their Healing Touch programs.

Two VA classes in the Pacific Northwest to be held this fall are open to the public. If you live in this area, we would encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity.

Healing Touch Level 2 - October 26-27, Mary's Woods, Lake Oswego, Oregon
Healing Touch Level 1 - November 14-15, Vancouver VA Hospital

If you would like to register for these classes or need more information, please contact Constance Hammond, [email protected] or 503-230-2331.

Voice for HOPE - Healers Of Planet Earth
Two Hope on the Hill programs are scheduled:
Tuesday, October 15, 2013 - State Capitol, Denver, Colorado

December 9-11, 2013 - Capitol Hill, Washington, DC, USA

HOTH logo Voice for HOPE works to make these "natural" approaches to health an explicit and valued part of national health policy by:

1) tapping into the energy of the nearly one hundred organized "natural" health modalities currently being used by an estimated 200 million Americans, and

2) focusing it onto the national health policy debate by organizing a broad range of individuals and professionals -- an undertaking intended to transcend political identities and affiliations.

Voice for HOPE's purpose is to provide leadership and strategic vision to focus the energy of the "natural" health constituency on the national health reform effort.  HOPE's goal is to organize HOPE Builders in each of the nation's 9500 congressional and state legislative districts as guides, helpers and information sources for policy makers - a goal deemed doable by the time health reform efforts are set to climax in 2014.

Summary of Article: Looking to Genes for the Secret to Happiness
The article, Looking to Genes for the Secret to Happiness, appeared in the August 25, 2013 issue of The New York Times Magazine.

The following summary of the article was written by Sue Erlewine.

Human beings appear to be genetically engineered to be happiest and healthiest when we spend a lot of time selflessly helping others - and unhealthy when we're mostly devoted to self-gratification. That's the eye-opening conclusion of University of
North Carolina researchers, based on a study of 80 volunteers.

The study subjects were asked how often they felt hedonic pleasure - the kind of happiness brought about by enjoying a tasty meal or buying themselves something. They were also asked how often they contributed something important to society that gave them a deeper sense of purpose. The researchers then drew the subjects' blood and found that the genes of volunteers whose lives contained lots of pleasure but little meaning were priming cells to express high levels of inflammation - which is linked to cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease - and a weaker anti-viral response to infections. "Their daily activities provide short-term happiness yet result in negative physical consequences long-term," psychophysiologist Barbara Fredrickson tells the ScienceDaily.com. People who emphasize service to others and a connection to community, on the other hand, showed a pattern of gene expression linked to less inflammation and stronger immunity.

There are two distinct kinds of happiness, says study co-author Steven Cole, and "our genes can tell the difference."

All great masters are constantly learning and adding to their knowledge. They never tire of learning more about their subject; this is why they are the masters. HTP continuously offers the opportunity to increase your knowledge of Healing Touch.
