Letter from the Program Director
Dear Healing Touch Community,

Healing Touch Program is excited to inform you that we have submitted our application for the National Commission for Credentialing Agency (NCCA) accreditation. This application represents four years of hard work on the part of many Healing Touch Certified Practitioners (HTCPs) dedicated to achieving this highly esteemed credential. NCCA accredits a variety of certification programs/organizations that assess professional competence. Achieving NCCA Accreditation for the HTCP credential would allow certified practitioners, whether they are licensed health care practitioners or not, to represent themselves as credential holders of an accredited profession. Review of the application may take up to six months, so in the meantime, we invite your positive thoughts and prayers.

Healing Touch Program is enjoying growing recognition in the holistic consumer market with four products from Sounds True Publications. In 2011, they published Dorothea Hover-Kramer's Healing Touch Guidebook. In 2011, they published a 2-CD set on Healing Touch Meditations: Guided Practices to Awaken Healing Energy for Yourself and Others. And recently, they published two new Healing Touch Program products, a DVD titled Healing Touch for Beginners: Energy Practices for Self Care and a multi-media home study course titled Healing Touch: Energy Therapy for Self Care. The kit includes a workbook, deck of cards, DVD and CD. Many of you have already seen copies of the DVD on the shelves at Whole Foods and bookstores. Read more.

As we move forward with many exciting endeavors, we thank each and every one of you in our community. You are the lifeblood of Healing Touch.

Revisions to the Healing Touch Program Code of Ethics
ethics Professional Responsibility #13 of Healing Touch Program The Code of Ethics has been updated to clarify ethical issues that may present when an HTCP, HTP, HTPA or Student of Healing Touch is practicing other energy medicine therapies or modalities within a Healing Touch session. The practitioner/student must do so with their client's prior knowledge and informed consent, and the practitioner/student will be bound by the HTP Code of Ethics. Reference for the corrective actions that may be taken for non-adherence to, or violation of, the Code of Ethics or Scope of Practice have been included, as well as clarification that The Healing Touch Program CEO and the Healing Touch Certification Governing Committee are the sole authorities to determine continued certification or eligibility to study.

These changes have been made to strengthen the Code of Ethics by providing clearer guidelines. The ethical standards that have been defined in the Code of Ethics and Scope of Practice help to assure and promote professional ideals, aspirations, and a sense of safety and trusteeship for society. I would like to thank the entire Healing Touch Ethics Nancy Lester Committee for their dedicated service, and Jerry Becker (vice-chair) and Monica Nebauer for chairing a sub-committee to work on these changes.

Just a reminder, it is up to each and every one of us in the Healing Touch Community to assure adherence to the Code of Ethics and Scope of Practice.  Click here to download the updated Code of Ethics.

Blessings,
Nancy Lester,  Healing Touch Ethics Committee Chair
Update on Repeat Students Receiving Continuing Education
ANCC color logo ANCC recently reversed their requirement preventing repeat students from receiving continuing education (CE) hours for classes. This is excellent news and HTP is excited to say that students repeating classes, class coordinators and class helpers will receive ANCC CE hours for HTP classes.

Instructors please note that the Class Fee Report and the Class Confirmation Letter have been updated to reflect this and are posted on the website.
HTPA Announces Formation of a New Committee
Purpose: Research insurance reimbursement for Healing Touch sessions

hand circle involved HTPA often receives requests for information about how to get insurance reimbursement for Healing Touch Sessions. Although we have been diligently searching to find practitioners who are getting reimbursement directly from insurance carriers, we have not found any practitioners who are submitting invoices themselves. Instead they are giving invoices to their clients; having them seek reimbursement. Or, they are submitting for reimbursement under the umbrella of a physician's practice.

Our goal in creating this committee is to pursue the search to find out what options there are, if any, that will lead to a successful reimbursement process. The Chair for this committee is Gail Cox, RN, HTCP.  If you have any information that might help this committee, or if you would like to be involved in working on it, please contact Gail at [email protected].

HTPA June Business Support  "LIVE" Interview
Tuesday June 11, 2013
The Path to Becoming a More Effective Healer Using Higher Vibrational Generators
with Linda Smith, RN, MS, HN-BC, HTCP, HTSM-CP/I, CCA

Linda Smith Linda is one of our treasured Healing Touch Elders, who with others assisted Janet Mentgen, Healing Touch founder, in the very early days when the HT program was being developed. Linda has years of business experience along with her rich experience practicing and teaching energy therapies. With Janet's support and encouragement, Linda created the HT Spiritual Ministry track, which then led her to create the Institute of Spiritual Healing and Aromatherapy (ISHA).  In addition she has created the ISHA Certification in Clinical Aromatherapy program.

Linda says that our goal as healers is to bring balance and harmony back to someone's energy field, and that using our hands to heal is a beginning form to facilitate that but there are many ways that we can actually enhance our work by utilizing other frequency generators. Our interview with Linda will be about what she has learned from her own personal experiences and how we can enhance our own practice by the awareness and use of these vibrational generators.

Linda believes that we healers are frequency generators - change agents who bring resonance to the energy fields of our clients. She believes it is our responsibility to find ways that work for us to create coherence and wholeness. As we enter into a new world post 12/21/2012, there is a need for holistic healers to remember who they are at this juncture in our evolutionary journey, and to take the lead in diversifying their hands-on work with other vibratory frequencies to heal not only people, but also the animal kingdom and the planet. During our interview, Linda will tell us just how we can do that using many specific and accessible tools that she has incorporated into her practice and classes. What an opportunity we have to recognize this path to higher vibrational being and take the lead among those dedicated to healing.

Join us for this Interview with Linda to learn how you can embark on a conscious journey to utilize other vibrational generators and become a higher vibrational generator yourself.  Click here to register.

Healing Touch Worldwide Foundation News

Karen Chin
As President of the Healing Touch Worldwide Foundation, I'd like to welcome us all  into the Spring season of growth and renewal. The HT Regional conferences in Chicago, California, and Ohio yielded not only a total of more than $3,000.00 to date, but the wonderful meeting of old friends, regardless of HT affiliations. The Board of HT California, a 501(c)3 corporation in its own right, generously agreed to raise monies for HTWF - Kudos to them!

In our ongoing campaign to raise $60,000.00 or more this year, my challenge to each of you is to assist us with the moving energy of the Heel to Heal Fun Run by considering an automatic deduction of at least $10.00 / month. This will enable the Foundation to continue its vision and commitment to service, research, and the furtherance of Healing Touch worldwide. As a quick update, Aparna just last month came to Colorado from Nepal for the Level 3 Instructor's class.

Thank You all for your ongoing support - please visit the Healing Touch Worldwide Foundation website for donation options!

Keynote Presentation on Body Prayer at the HT California Symposium
By Cynthia Hutchison, Healing Touch Program Director

I was delighted to offer a keynote presentation for the Healing Touch California Symposium April 20-21 in San Diego. The conference theme was self care, so I offered a favorite topic of mine for which I have much passion, body prayer.

cyn ocean prayer
Cynthia doing eurythmy
prayer at the ocean
Typically when one prays, we traditionally think of engaging our minds and hearts. With body prayer, one not only engages the mind (thinking) and heart (feeling), but also the will forces and life forces of our physicality, through movement and gesture. When one consciously prays with the three aspects of soul (the human beings' abilities for thinking, feeling, and willing/physical action), one's devotional experience is enhanced and may be sensed etherically as well as in one's consciousness. In the presentation,  I provided a background to my twenty year experience with body prayer to Healing Touch, in particular with the Hara Alignment Meditation.

Eurythmy (which means good movement) was developed by Rudolph Steiner in 1912 and has three branches: therapeutic eurythmy for health and healing: artistic eurythmy (performance in the arts as a form of dance) and devotional eurythmy (prayer). Eurythmy is part of the curriculum of all Waldorf Schools, also developed by Steiner. Waldorf education is the fastest growing holistic education system and has over 500 schools across the world, with more than 100 in the United States.

Devotional eurythmy (body prayer) not only enhances one's spiritual life but supports the connection of the spirit to the life body (etheric body). For myself, I have experienced a notable improvement in my energy levels and overall health which I attribute to this daily practice.

If you are interested in learning more about body prayer, I invite you to link here to my website, www.BoulderHealingTouch.com, where I have posted two videos: a 25 minute teaching video for understanding the gestures and words, and another ten minute video for practicing. I chose four universal prayers that have wide appeal for anyone interested in experiencing this devotional practice. If you view these films and enjoy incorporating them into your life, please write to me and tell me of your experience!
COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS
Healing Touch Now in Fundamental Nursing Textbook in Japan
rumi Through the work of Healing Touch Japan (an international division of  Hashiba Institute) and co-founder Rumi Hashimoto, MSN, RN, HTCP/I, Healing Touch is now part of a well-known fundamental Nursing textbook in Japan, "An Introduction to Nursing: Approach to Nursing" (3rd edition, first published in 2005).

Translation:"Japanese are deeply connected with the nature and the environment.  Reading between the lines, the culture of sensing the 'unseen' may be deeply connected with the theory proposed by Rogers," state Dr. Tutsui. Dr. Dolores Krieger has applied Rogers' Theory of Unitary Human Being into nursing practice through the introduction of Therapeutic Touch, a form of energy therapy, which later expanded to Healing Touch.  Healing Touch has been rapidly spreading in Japan. (20, 21) Healing Touch uses hands to clear, restore, and balance the energy field, thus supporting the person to self heal.  It's clinical applicability and usefulness during disaster situations, such as the earthquake and tsunami in northern Japan, has been demonstrated in recent years. (22)
Since 2010, Healing Touch has been growing throughout Japan with hundreds of participants taking Healing Touch Program classes.  Currently, HTP Levels 1-3 are offered at a number of universities and community centers across the country. This summer, Healing Touch Japan will continue teaching classes, practice groups and special lectures throughout Japan.  For more information, visit www.hashibahealth.com.

Healing Warriors Program Delivers Healing Touch to VA Nurses
florence nightengale May 6th is the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of modern day nursing. It is also National Nurses Day and kicks off a week of events and recognition and appreciation for nurses.

This year, Healing Warriors Program had the honor of participating in both the Denver and Cheyenne VA Medical Center's Nurses Day by providing a day of complementary care clinic sessions for the VA nursing teams. Many of our VA nurses are veterans themselves, and work on behalf of our veteran community, helping to heal, support and comfort those who are ill and in pain. This was our opportunity to give back to those who serve.

Healing Warriors Program had approximately 23 volunteer practitioners in total between both sites, and  schedules were full throughout the day. Healing Touch, Acupuncture, CranioSacral therapy, Reflexology, Acutonics and Jin Shin Jyutsu were among the therapies offered. For those who had never experienced mind-body therapies, it was both educational and relaxing.

HWP 2 The Cheyenne VA Medical Center was a new addition this year and the day's success has already generated interest for a follow up visit. The event, led by Healing Warriors Program Northern Colorado Site Director, Sue Walker, demonstrated the effectiveness of the modalities largely because of the professionalism, skill and caliber of the practitioner team volunteers. Sue is quick to recognize her VA partners "Michelle Mulberry, RN, BSN, of the Cheyenne VA and Johnna Greeley RN-C, BSN, of the Denver VA offered outstanding to support to Healing Warriors Program by communicating the nurses appreciation event to the nurse managers and their departments. There was a large group of nursing staff that participated and the practitioners were honored to give back to them. We look forward to serving them again in the future."

Healing Warriors Program Co-Executive Director, Ana Yelen remarks, "It is through the outstanding work of  the practitioner teams and the tremendous staff at both the Cheyenne and Denver VA Medical Centers, that we look forward to further growing our friendships and connections with the VA teams. We are grateful to our VA nurses for their heart centered service to our military men and women and we are privileged to support them."
New Book: Becoming the Healing
deborah schlag Author Deborah L. Schlag, HTCP, recounts the complicated, challenging process of living with and recovering from a traumatic brain injury in her candid new memoir, Becoming the Healer: The Miracle of Brain Injury.

It was January 2003 when Schlag, mother of five, successful small business owner and active member of her community, would see her life change forever. What began as an ordinary commute to take her two younger children to school quickly turned into a nightmare after a devastating accident left her with a traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Written with heartfelt candor and informative detail, Becoming the Healer is Deborah's personal account of her eight-year journey of what she rightfully calls "miraculous recovery and transformation."  She writes openly and honestly about the impact of the car accident on her and her family, and the injuries that she sustained.

schlag bookcover Thoroughly researched, "Becoming the Healer" is packed with information, references, recommendations and insights into many non-traditional treatments that aided in her recovery. The book stands alone as an invaluable guide for TBI sufferers and their loved ones. Written in personal, non-technical medical terms, Schlag both informs and inspires with an accessible story of her tragic injury and her experiences helping others achieve their own recovery. "No matter what you are experiencing in your life, you have choices," Deborah writes, "the attitude you handle it with, how you handle your experience, what you take away from it and how you can help another with what you learned through it."

Deborah L. Schlag lives in North Carolina with her family, where she has founded Awakenings: Center for Inner Healing & Empowerment, to bring healing to others and empower them to move forward in their own recovery process.
