YOUR VOICE MATTERS
Greetings!
5 year banner Here we are at the completion of HTPA's first 5 years. In some ways it has zoomed by but in others it seems like it's been a long time comin'. The reason it might seem like a long time since we launched HTPA April 1, 2008 is because we have been dedicated to building a solid foundation and that means details, details, details that have  to be addressed. Whenever you are dedicated to details it always feels like slow motion because every little t has to be crossed and i dotted. But in the end it feels so good to know that a solid "ship" has been built.

When we launched HTPA, our Purpose was clear = Unite and give Voice to our Community while we Serve our members. Now, and over the previous years, whenever we've visited our Purpose, we are happy to say it remains as it was from day one. We're proud that many, many members have used their Voice, have and continue to build Community with us and are continually giving us compliments along with constructive feedback. To all issues we've responded.  Our policy is to respond in 48 hours max but the rule is more often within 12 hours or sooner. Let's keep our Voices loud and heard!!

Right now we have a new Member Survey available and are asking that you fill out all parts that interest you. You will find the link to the Survey below in the Membership Meeting Reminder. The Survey lets us know your opinion of HTPA and what you would like us to add (or let go of).  It's also a way for you to give us
red megaphone
Let us hear from you!
your ideas and suggestions. We take the responses to our Surveys seriously and encourage you to add your Voice = participate. Your feedback and OPEN communication make a huge difference in guiding the development of our current and new projects. So we can serve you better, please be involved (complete the Survey and do attend the Annual Membership Meeting June 27th - see more info below).

Over the last year, we have been witnessing more and more members taking action - stepping forward to create opportunities to use their Voice. One recent opportunity was to write letters to policy makers to prevent state legislation that would require a license to touch. See the end result below concerning the ruling in Colorado.  This is encouraging and hopefully inspires more to use their Voice for purposes like this. As more of you use your Voice, we all benefit in gaining more volume and more power to spread Healing Touch in the way we would like (with Health Freedom) and create Community worldwide.

Voice UP!!

TOGETHER, We are the Heart

of Healing Touch,

Sharon Robbins, RN, HN-BC, CCHt, HTCP, HTPA Executive Director

Member Benefits Update
HTPA Pin The following are benefits in development:

Our Monthly "Live" Chats are full of good discussion about practice issues. Although we know there is not one technique only that produces good results for a particular complaint or issue, there are many times that a technique does result in relief and increased well-being. So when the question is asked during the Chats - "what works"?? Answers are noted. We have been accruing these answers for the past months and are now taking steps to have them professionally transcribed.

We will be applying FAQ pages to our HTPA website for all to benefit. We are confident that we will have those pages up for you in the very near future.

New HTPA Committee has been established. Because we are so frequently asked if there is an avenue for practitioners to receive insurance reimbursement for Healing Touch sessions and to date our inquiries about this to HTPA members has not produced definitive answers, we are happy to announce that a new HTPA Committee has been established (it's in the very beginning stages) formulating a plan to search for answers to this question. The Committee is being co-Chaired by Gail Cox (IL) and Holli Brown (WA). Committee members will soon be added and their first meeting will take place in the next few weeks. The Committee has been named - "Insurance Initiative."  The initial description of the Committee's role, as set forth by the co-Chairs is: "The 2 main areas that we will be looking into are education and .... can we build an HT protocol for pain management for submission to Medicare and insurance companies." We will keep you posted as this Committee's work unfolds. If you have any information that you think might help, please send to [email protected]

New webpage is coming to identify states that DO allow non-licensed practitioners to touch. Since energy practice continues to gain in popularity and become the service of choice, other services are exploring ways to regulate the field of energy practice. As a result we have seen many attempts to influence state policy makers to write legislation that would require non-licensed practitioners to have a license to touch even when there is no manipulation of tissue or muscle. When these efforts to regulate are made known, we have witnessed a huge number of our HTPA members joining the effort to clarify what energy practice is and support the fact that a license to touch is not needed. The success of these efforts has been noted and we are please to share (further down in this newsletter) a recent success in the state of Colorado.

HTPA, with HTP's help, has decided to develop a web page identifying the states that DO allow non-licensed practitioners to touch. When that website page is available we will send out an announcement.

2013 Annual Report. Watch for the 2013 HTPA Annual Report to be available by June 27th, in time for the Annual HTPA Membership Meeting.

Revisions to the Healing Touch Program Code of Ethics
ethics Professional Responsibility #13 of Healing Touch Program The Code of Ethics has been updated to clarify ethical issues that may present when an HTCP, HTP, HTPA or Student of Healing Touch is practicing other energy medicine therapies or modalities within a Healing Touch session. The practitioner/student must do so with their client's prior knowledge and informed consent, and the practitioner/student will be bound by the HTP Code of Ethics. Reference for the corrective actions that may be taken for non-adherence to, or violation of, the Code of Ethics or Scope of Practice have been included, as well as clarification that The Healing Touch Program CEO and the Healing Touch Certification Governing Committee are the sole authorities to determine continued certification or eligibility to study.

These changes have been made to strengthen the Code of Ethics by providing clearer guidelines. The ethical standards that have been defined in the Code of Ethics and Scope of Practice help to assure and promote professional ideals, aspirations, and a sense of safety and trusteeship for society. I would like to thank the entire Healing Touch Ethics Nancy Lester Committee for their dedicated service, and Jerry Becker (vice-chair) and Monica Nebauer for chairing a sub-committee to work on these changes.
Nancy Lester
Just a reminder, it is up to each and every one of us in the Healing Touch Community to assure adherence to the Code of Ethics and Scope of Practice.  Click here to download the updated Code of Ethics.

Blessings,
Nancy Lester,  Healing Touch Ethics Committee Chair

Members in Action - Bringing Healing Touch Worldwide
Jennifer Williams, LCSW, HTP (Fort Gordon, GA)
Thanks Jennifer for your efforts to bring Healing Touch into the Military environment where you are. We know your Voice will be heard and will lead to success.

Diane Hagerty, HTP-A (Livermore, CA)
Diane informed us that she, along with Vanessa Maassen, HTP-A, Kathy Darlington, HTCP, and Vivian Drewis, created a Healing Touch Clinic for Tri-Valley Veterans. Diane says "we take over the computer lab in the Veterans First office on the second Saturday of each month. " The activity Diane and her peers have created has led to a Healing Touch event with Wounded Warrior Project that was scheduled for May 18th. See below - we have featured Diane's report on how the WWP event turned out. This is so terrific!!

Jan M. Manthey, RN,BS, HTCP (Madison, WI)
Jan shared that "two other nurses and myself have been asked to be a part of a pilot study at UW Hospital to provide Healing Touch to inpatients. We have a grant which will pay for us to do HT for 12 weeks, and hopefully longer if we build enough interest on the units. We were also part of a Health and Healing week at the hospital, giving demonstrations of Healing Touch to employees. YEA JAN!!

Jean Pruett Jean Pruett, D.Min., LPC, FBPPC, HTCP/I (Charlotte, NC)
Jean is a member of the hospital Pastoral Care Department and Administrative Staff Chaplain for Women's Division. Her hospital has applied for Magnet Status and Jean shared that in that application was a study in which a "story" about the use of Healing Touch was included. Way to go Jean!! Can't wait to hear if Magnet Status was achieved.

Here is some of the language from that study submission: This example demonstrates how 11B direct care nurses applied the Professional Practice Model elements of Caring, Evidence-Based Practice and Interdisciplinary Collaboration toward improving pain management for uterine-ovarian cancer patients on their unit.

Healing Touch on 11B: "Healing Touch is an example of an intentional caring-healing modality grounded in an ethic, philosophy, values and consciousness consistent with my original Theory of Human Caring and Transpersonal Caring. Thus, there is convergence between my recent evolved work in Caritas Nursing and Healing Touch in that they both work from an energetic framework of Universal Love as the basis of all healing and all caring healing-relationships." - Jean Watson, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN Founder and Executive Director, Watson Caring Science Institute

Cynthia H 1 Cynthia Hutchison, HTCP/I, Healing Touch Program Director (Boulder, CO)
Cynthia delivered a fabulous Keynote Presentation at the HT California Symposium April 21st. She presented her personal practice of Eurythmy, created by Rudolph Steiner in 1912.  Cynthia calls this a form of Body Prayer.  There were high praises for the presentation and many in attendance stated that they will incorporate what they learned into their daily self-care.

rumi Rumi Hashimoto, MSN, RN, HTCP/I (Long Beach, CA)
Through the work of Healing Touch Japan (an international division of Hashiba Institute) of which Rumi is co-founder, Healing Touch is now part of a well-known fundamental Nursing textbook in Japan, "An Introduction to Nursing: Approach to Nursing" (3rd edition, first published in 2005).

HWP 2 Healing Warriors Program (based in Denver, CO) participated in both the Denver and Cheyenne VA Medical Center's Nurses Day in May by providing a day of complementary care clinic sessions for the VA nursing teams. It was their first time in Cheyenne and it was such a huge success that they have already been invited back for another event. The following members participated, Ana Yelen, HTCP (Boulder, CO), Dorothy Kuckuck, HTCP (Loveland, CO), and from Fort Collins, CO, Sue Walker, HTCP, Jackie Cooper, HTCP, Joanie DeLaGarza, RN, HTCP, and Sue Vogel, HTCP.

Report of Healing Touch with the Wounded Warrior Project
Recap: Wounded Warrior Project and Healing Touch

wwp may 18 Saturday, May 18th, 2013 dawned clear and beautiful - a perfect "Armed Forces Day."  It was also a perfect day for coming together to serve our Wounded Warriors at the gorgeous facilities at the FOUR POINTS SHERATON in Pleasanton, CA.  The Healing Touch Presentation was provided by Beverly Dixon, Ph.D., M.S.P.H, HTCP/I.  Dr. Dixon is a Certified Healing Touch Practitioner and Instructor who has been teaching nursing, medical technology, and biology majors at California State University, East Bay, for over 20 years. In Dr. Dixon's presentation, she explained how unrelenting stress can seriously affect our bodies - at the DNA level - and how Healing Touch can halt that process and allow our natural healing abilities to help reverse that trend for a return to health.  The ability to relax is Key!

We had exactly the right number of Healers to serve the Warriors and WWP staff too. Kind and generous HT Certified Practitioners Kathy Briner, Stephanie Capodanno, Nanette Sagastume and Michelle Stern provided sessions for 11 participants, including Warriors, caregivers and staff.

The reactions following the treatments were 100% positive!  Recipients reported a reduction in pain levels and an interest in receiving further Healing Touch treatments.

Participant comments included
"Very relaxing and needed"; "The session was very calming. It allowed my mind to rest and focus on a higher level of recovery of the mind and Spirit. Thank You"; "Thank you for the positive input towards my self confidence and your willingness to help me through my total healing process.  I haven't felt relaxed and rested like this for a long time. Thank you so much!"

I, too, feel honored and blessed to have been instrumental in bringing this amazing group together.
Loving Blessings,
Diane Hagerty, HTP-A

Good News - Voices Heard
CO State Flag On April 9, 2013 an e-mail was circulated informing us that on April 11, 2013 there was to be a hearing on a Colorado ("Safe Harbor") Senate Bill (13-215) that would affect Health Freedom in that state. Although the notice came close to the hearing date it was so clear and instructional (how to participate with letters, petitions, etc.) that it solicited a sizable response and made a good impact on the hearing. SCROLL DOWN FOR RESULTS!

ASK YOUR SENATOR TO VOTE YES ON SB-215!!

What the Bill Does:
S.B.13 -215, the "Colorado Natural Health Consumer Protection Act", would protect access to thousands of traditional, complementary and alternative health care practitioners providing great services to health seekers in Colorado. The new proposed law (various versions already passed in eight other states) would provide an exemption from state occupational registration requirements for those non-invasive complementary and alternative health care practitioners who (1) avoid a specific list of prohibited conduct, such as puncturing the skin or administering prescription drugs or telling people to go off their treatments recommended by their licensed health care professional, and (2) give out the disclosure information listed in the bill, such as contact information, education and training, and the nature of the services to be rendered. Click here to Read S.B.13-215. The bill was introduced on March 15, 2013 by Senator Jahn. There is not a companion bill in the Assembly at this time.

THE GOOD NEWS Reported on April 11th:
Colorado's safe harbor bill for unlicensed natural health practitioners passed the Senate Health Committee just now after a six hour hearing, with a vote of 5/2. It is SB215. Pray it keeps going!!!!! Amazing arguments and discussions. It is now on its way to the floor.

HTPA June Professional Development  "Live" Interview

Tuesday, June 11, 2013  9pm-10:15pm Eastern

Interview with Linda Smith, RN, MS, HN-BC, HTCP, HTSM-CP/I, CCA

"The Path to Becoming a More Effective Healer
Using Higher Vibrational Generators"

Linda Smith Linda is one of our treasured Healing Touch Elders, who with others assisted Janet Mentgen, Healing Touch founder, in the very early days when the HT Program was being developed.  Linda has years of business experience along with her rich experience practicing and teaching energy therapies. With Janet's support and encouragement, Linda branched off to create the HT Spiritual Ministry track which then led her to create the Institute of Spiritual Healing and Aromatherapy (ISHA).  In addition she has created the ISHA Certification in Clinical Aromatherapy program. She is a very successful, busy and creative lady!!

Linda says that our goal as healers is to bring balance and harmony back to someone's energy field and that using our hands to heal is a beginning form to facilitate that but there are many ways that we can actually enhance our work by utilizing other frequency generators. Our interview with Linda will be about what she has learned from her own personal experiences utilizing those other frequency generators. She will share how we can enhance our practice by the awareness and use of those vibrational generators.

Linda asks: now what would happen if we as healers added other "forms" to our hands-on work? She believes we have an opportunity here to take a central position to bring greater healing into the world and particularly at this critical stage of evolvement. We are bringers of the light. Most healers call themselves this but it's not likely all are aware that that "light" can be intensified. This is what Linda will share - how to consciously intensify your "light" or vibration.

Linda believes that we, healers, are frequency generators-change agents who bring resonance to the energy fields of our clients. She says it is our responsibility to find ways that work for us to create coherence and wholeness. And that as we enter into a new world post 12/21/2012, there is a need for holistic healers, like Healing Touch practitioners, to remember who they are at this juncture in our evolutionary journey and to take the lead in diversifying their hands-on work with other vibratory frequencies to heal not only people, but also the animal kingdom, and the planet.  During our interview, Linda will tell us just how we can do that using many specific and accessible tools that she has incorporated into her practice and classes.

What an opportunity we have to recognize this path to higher vibrational being and take the lead among those dedicated to healing.

Join us for this Interview with Linda to learn how you can embark on a conscious journey to utilize other vibrational generators and become a higher vibrational generator yourself.  Click here to register.

Risk Management and Liability Insurance Update
chick&egg
Don't worry which comes first -
Carry Liability Insurance

Our May Business Support "Live" Interview was with Midge Murphy, JD, Ph.D (Energy Medicine), who is an attorney no longer actively practicing law per se but now consulting using her expertise in Risk Management.  We barely got to scratch the surface during the Interview and we have promised to have Midge back for another discussion. Midge has so much good information that directly relates to our practice and business development because she herself has an energy practice. Midge says that as we become more main stream we need more protection. This is not fear-based advice but rather Midge offers empowerment and positive direction for creating the best and safest business practice for both you and your clients. Midge also recommended that every student and practitioner carry Liability Insurance not only for peace of mind but because it is the right professional action. When we have Midge back we will talk about the importance of having a Consent Form that really fits your unique practice and how to utilize that Form to make sure your client knows what he/she will be receiving. The recording of Midge's May Interview is available on the HTPA Store: https://healingtouch.memberize.net/clubportal/cart/index.cfm
