Letter from the Program Director

Dear HT Community,

Happy New Year! I would like to start out this newsletter's first 2013 message with an inspirational and thought provoking invitation. As always, I hope that you are feeling inspired to go deeper, wider and higher into your Healing Touch education, practice and self care. To many of us, taking more classes and earning certificates and professional credentials are an enjoyable and important part of inner growth. While I do encourage those avenues, most importantly I advocate another kind of inner knowledge and growth that anyone can do and which does not require class attendance, books, certificates or tuition. Instead, it involves using whatever knowledge you have and applying it to three daily practices: providing blessings, expressing gratitude and dedicating your life to the good of all. One of my favorite esoteric authors, the late Omraam Mikhal Avanhov, gave a wonderful message about this in a brief meditation:

"Contrary to a widespread opinion, spiritual work only requires a little knowledge, so long, of course, as that knowledge concerns what is essential... Every truth is like

a seed we sow and from which a whole tree will start to grow. Read more.

May this year find us all more open-hearted and providing more and more blessings, expressions of gratitude and dedication to Spirit!

HTWF New Year Update

To All our Healing Touch Friends and Colleagues,

htwf 01-2013 1 Welcome to the New Year!  2013 promises to be exciting for all involved in Healing Touch and the Healing Touch Worldwide Foundation. In 2012, the Foundation granted $18,000 for research and service projects. Visit the website htwfoundation.org for more information. The bar is raised for 2013! We already have received two grant applications that need immediate funding. Aparna Bhutta desires to travel from Nepal to the U.S. to progress to Level 3 instructor. Funds from the Janet Mentgen Vision Fund support this. There is also one to benefit a project using Healing Touch with rescued horses. Funds from the Animal Fund would be used for this grant. Here is an opportunity to see your tax-deductible donations put to service - spreading Healing Touch worldwide and to hurting animals. Please help!

Blessings for a prosperous, healthy, and loving year from your colleagues in healing.

The Trustees for Healing Touch Worldwide Foundation,
Ann Cathcart, Karen Chin, Roberta Davis-Lewis, Tina Devoe, Nancy Lavergne, Candy Lockeby, Lisa Mentgen-Gordon, Bonnie Morrow, Norm Morrow, Sharon Robbins, Connie Silva, Victoria Stewart
HTPA February Business Support "LIVE" Interview

HTPA Business Support PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SERIES

"LET'S DISCUSS THE RELAXATION RESPONSE"

Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 9pm - 10:15pm Eastern

with Sharon Robbins, RN, HN-BC, CCHt, HTCP

  Sharon R 2

Whether you're aware of it or not, when you practice Healing Touch or other energy-based techniques you are most likely eliciting THE RELAXATION RESPONSE within yourself and within your client. Since this (theory) is yet to be proven scientifically, we can only hypothesize that this is true but when you review the facts of what comprises The Relaxation Response, it's pretty likely you will come to this same conclusion.

The Relaxation Response as proven, defined and documented by Herbert Benson, MD in his 1975 first edition book of the same name, just might give you the explanation you've been looking for to understand and language what it is that you are doing when you practice Healing Touch and/or other Energy Medicine techniques.

RR cover A focus of our discussion will be just what we might read between the lines - what liberties can we take to expand on what Herbert Benson has proven..? How does this fit with our Healing Touch and energy practice? How can we use this proven RESPONSE and apply it to our "work"? We will also discuss Dr. Benson's research of the Placebo Effect and how his findings benefit and support our practice.

This is sure to be a great discussion - join us to learn but also join us to share what your insights are about how your practice fits with The Relaxation Response - defined by Benson as "an inducible, physiologic state of quietude providing us with the ability to heal and rejuvenate our bodies." This could be the beginning of a new direction for your own personal health and for your practice.

We invite you to join us for an informative, FUN discussion! Click here to register.

The Healing Presence

Victoria Steward 12/2012 By Victoria Stewart, HTCP/I, HTACP

I have been a Healing Touch Certified Practitioner for 10 years and have a full-time practice out of my home in Oxford, PA. I would like to tell a story of an event I attended, what happened, and what dawned on me in retrospect.

Oxford, PA is a very small rural town. There are many Amish farms mixed in with communities of people. I have lived here for 7 years and really enjoy the peacefulness and spaciousness and lots of wild life. Two years ago I decided to join the Oxford Chamber of Commerce so I could showcase my business and rub elbows.

This past year a Super Wal-Mart and a few strip stores popped up in Oxford. There are also a few more banks in that shopping area. I decided to respond to an open house that one of the newly opened banks was holding. When I arrived, I did not know anyone there. The hosts had name tags for people who had registered. I picked my name tag up and noticed that it not only had my name on the tag but it also had my professional title on it, Energy Therapy Specialist. Read more.

Kathy Allan

Time:  9am - 5:30pm (both days)

Instructor: Kathy Allan, RN, HN-BC, HTCP/HTCI, SEP

War, natural disasters, auto accidents, abuse and even medical procedures are just a few of the things that can cause people to get stuck in the freeze of post-traumatic stress. Fortunately, everyone has the capacity to move from fight, flight or freeze back into the flow of life. This workshop offers an in-depth experiential understanding of how the body/mind automatically selects the right responses when it perceives safety, danger or life-threat.

Participants will learn how to interrupt the traumatic stress continuum with greater ease in order to create safety and restore balance in themselves, their families and their clients.  They will be prepared to work more confidently and effectively with people traumatized from a variety of causes and will feel more comfortable when doing various trauma release techniques.

Space is limited so register early!
