Letter from the HT Program Director

Greetings to the Healing Touch Worldwide Community,

C & C
Cynthia & Catherine Rose

As the days darken and grow colder, I become more introspective. How perfect that my daughter Catherine Rose, an artist, and Level 3 HTP student, just sent a letter to her father and me inviting us to introspectively share highlights of our lives as her 22nd birthday gift. Here's what she wrote...

"When I was visiting Patricia this summer, one of the things she said to me was that she regretted not asking her parents more about their lives before they passed away. I was wondering if you two would be willing to write down some of the most inspiring, influential, life-changing/world-view changing, memorable, touching, hilarious, frightening etc.--i.e. important events/moments from your lives thus far. It would mean a lot to me to get to know you both a bit more, as there is obviously so much of which I am unaware. I know you have both had so many adventures, and learned many life lessons, and I would love to hear more of the stories behind them. (You have both known me my whole life, yet I have only known you for part of yours)."

With a grateful heart for our Healing Touch Worldwide Community,

HTP Ethics Committee Update
Nancy Lester By Nancy Lester, RN, BSPA, LMT, HN-BC, HTCP/I, QM

Ethics Committee Chair

The Healing Touch Program Code of Ethics and Scope of Practice are essential to the foundation, integrity, and practice of Healing Touch.  HTP instructors, practitioners and students uphold the core concepts and values of Healing Touch by adhering to the principles and guidelines in these documents.

The HTP Ethics Committee is the guardian of these documents and serves the program, and every community, by being a resource supporting and promoting the five fundamental values of quality, integrity, compassion, collaboration, and commitment. The Code of Ethics sets the standards that are necessary to promote safety and trusteeship for society.

I was appointed to the Ethics Committee January, 2010, and in August of 2012 became the Chair. I was inspired to serve on this committee to honor Janet Mentgen's vision that these standards and guidelines are the underpinning of The Healing Touch Program.

I am honored to present the Vice Chair and Members of the Ethics Committee:

Jerry Becker, CAE, HTCP/I, Ethics Committee Vice-Chair

Melinda Graham, RN, CPIMI, CIMI, HTCP, Ethics Committee Secretary

Cynthia Hutchison, DNSc, RN, MSN, HTCP/I

Jean Pruett, D.Min., LPC, NCC, FBPPC, HTCP/I, QM (new member)

Monica Nebauer, RN, PHD, HTCP/I
Nancy Fabro, LPN, HTCP/I, QM (former Chair)

It is up to each and every one of us to understand the Code of Ethics and Scope of Practice and to report any ethical issue. The committee is here to serve you. We are available for informal consultation if you are not sure about an issue. Click here to visit the Ethics page of the HTP website for the Ethics Policy and Procedure, including how to resolve an issue, file a complaint, frequently asked questions, and much more.

HTWF Eastern Regional Conference Update

HTWF Logo

By Donna Fink, HTCP

If you missed the Eastern Regional Conference in Albany, NY last month, you missed great programs, terrific speakers, music both sacred and lively, stories which made us all laugh so much with new understandings about ourselves, and moments which touched the heart.

Healing Touch Worldwide Foundation was so warmly received, not only by the participants but also by the speakers. Three of the speakers donated their fee which was so touching. It is such a joy to be with a group so dedicated to Healing Touch and so incredibly supportive of HTWF.

Thanks to the open hearts of everyone, HTWF raised $1,845. These donations are so important and will certainly help HTWF have funds available for future Grants as we help spread Janet Mentgen's work worldwide.  Thank you to everyone. We are so grateful for all your support!

HTWF Update - Assignment: Grace and Thanksgiving

Tina Devoe By Tina Devoe, RN, HTCP/I, HTAP

Gratitude "In Honor" Giving

"Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year."

        Ralph Waldo Emerson

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday!

I like to think that I have Thanksgiving everyday.  For several years now, I have had the opportunity to work on the board of the non-profit that Janet Mentgen established: Healing Touch Worldwide Foundation. I reflect on the real good being done with the monies that are donated to the Healing Touch Worldwide Foundation.

The HTWF Janet Mentgen Fund has been able to provide monies for new teachers from outside the USA to be trained in Healing Touch. New research about Healing Touch and spirituality is funded to create professional respect for the work I do. Service projects such as healing in Fukushima Japan, that carry the best that Healing Touch can offer to humanity, are supported.

I wish to take the time to express what is in my heart: Thank you to all who have shared their gifts with HTWF. I hope you had fun at the Worldwide and Regional HT Conferences where so many contributions were made in the auctions, raffles and generous sharing.

May you all enjoy a share in the bountiful blessings of the generous hearts of the Healing Touch community through the Healing Touch Worldwide Foundation.

Written by Victoria Stewart, HTCP/I, HTACP

Developed by Kathryn DeSouchet, HTPA, MSW

This article is the first in a series of four articles.

What do I want in a Mentor?

Congratulations on your Healing Touch Level 4 class achievement! I know going on to Level 5 and Certification is a lot of work.  You probably have many questions that you would like to ask your mentor.

STOP!  Ground, Center, and Breathe.

You may already have a list of questions. If not, here are a few for you to consider:

  • How do I find a mentor to guide me through Level 5 and Certification?
  • What do I want in a mentor?
  • What will a mentor want from me?
  • How long will the process take?
  • Is there a listing of mentors that is available?
  • What expenses are there?
  • Where do I start!

What are my needs during this process? Making a list of what type of person you want for your Mentor is a good idea. Here are some possibilities. Read more.
