Letter from the HTP CEO

WRC 2012 I was very excited to travel to San Diego in September to attend the Healing Touch Western Regional Conference. There were over over 80 people in attendance and it was wonderful to come together in community to listen to the excellent presenters, celebrate practitioner pinning and network. Planning is currently underway for the 2013 HT Regional Conferences and we will soon be announcing the dates and locations.

HTP continues to work toward a second national accreditation with the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). This accreditation means that HTCPs will be accredited as individual practitioners without needing to be a nurse or healthcare practitioner. We are excited to report that HTCPs are taking the Healing Touch Certified Practitioner Entry Level Proficiency Exam. The November 1 date for practitioner certification Lisa G application has been extended to November 26, 2012.   Read more

Healing Touch With Guided Imagery Could Help Relieve
PTSD Symptoms In Soldiers, Study Suggests

October 10, 2012

Some complementary medicine techniques seem to improve symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in soldiers, according to a small new study.

Researchers at the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine found that healing touch with guided imagery -- two complementary medicine techniques -- helped to decrease symptoms of PTSD and depression and increase quality of life for returning active-duty soldiers, when used in tandem with the usual PTSD treatment.

It is anticipated that this will be completed by November 1st and the "Read More" feature in the archived April - August issues of Community News will again work. We apologize for this inconvenience.

HTPA October Business Support "LIVE" Interview
"Teaching Children Healing Touch Energy Tools Has a Multitude of Benefits"

Tuesday, November 13, 2012 9pm - 10:15pm Eastern

With Lynn Placek, MA, HTCP/I

Lynn Placek The Children's Healing Touch Class through Healing Touch Program based on the book My Helpful Healing Touch: A Guide for Empowering Children has been available for over three years but few of us are taking advantage of using it to expand our practice and/or contribute to our Professional Development. When you hear the rewards Lynn Placek has experienced you too will want to add this training to your Tool Kit.

There's probably no one who would deny that very young children are intuitive naturals and have an acute awareness of energy, so it's pretty much a given that teaching them about wellness and healing using energetic tools is easy and FUN for them and you. In addition it validates their inner wisdom which in turn creates empowerment. But there's much more to gain from adding this training to your offerings.

Lynn's background in education makes her a perfect trainer for bringing this information to us but she says that anyone can learn this simple way of teaching children. Besides the many benefits it offers including the potential to bring you additional income, it also gives everyone a way to fulfill Janet Mentgen's Vision of bringing Healing Touch into every school and home. There are no HT pre-requisites to take the Children's Class Training.

During this Interview we will receive an update on the Healing Touch Teen Program too which is slated to be launched in the new year. Don't miss this opportunity to hear stories of how children respond to learning about energy and Healing Touch.

We invite you to join us for an informative, FUN interview!

HTWF Update

HTWF Logo By Ann Cathcart,  BA, BSN, HTCP, HNB-BC, LUT

On October 15, 2012, NBC Nightly News included a feature about consumer's increased use of alternative medicine, now commonly known as complementary or integrative medicine.  They referenced hypnosis, acupuncture, yoga, tai chi and massage.  Unfortunately, Healing Touch, nor any other biofield modality was mentioned.  Healing Touch is becoming more readily available in hospitals and from practitioners in independent practice. The featured news report ended with a rallying cry for insurance companies to catch up to consumer demand and offer reimbursement, intimating that this is the future trend toward preventing disease and reducing pain, empowering people to take charge of their own well-being and ultimately cutting medical costs.

The medical profession and insurance companies have forever belittled alternative medicine, and energy medicine in particular.  One way to step up credibility is to have more peer reviewed research on the subject, published in prestigious journals and popular magazines.  Research costs money and that is where the Healing Touch Worldwide Foundation can advance this cause. This was Janet Mentgen's purpose for establishing the Foundation with the intent to receive and distribute funds to assist, encourage and advance the philosophy, objectives and techniques of Healing Touch therapy. This is primarily accomplished through funding of grants for research and humanitarian projects around the world. Because the Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, donations are tax deductible.

The recent West Coast Regional Healing Touch Program conference in San Diego was a fabulous success. Not only was the program informative, enlightening and fun, the Foundation raffle brought in over $3,100! Thank you to the vendors for their generous donations to the raffle, and to all the participants for their generous hearts. This was the most successful regional fundraiser to date!

If you have a brilliant fundraising activity please let a Foundation Board member know your idea(s).  Contacts are listed on the website htwfoundation.org .  You will see that there are many ways one can be involved in getting the word out about Healing Touch, the complementary modality we love to practice and share. Someday, Healing Touch will be THE feature on a network news program. Let's all support Healing Touch research and make it happen soon.

Gratitude and Healing for Fukushima
by Katrina Shibata, MPH, CHES, HTPA

In early August, 2012, the Hashiba Institute along with volunteers (from Japan and the United States) came together to bring Healing Touch to the lives of those devastated by the tsunami and nuclear disaster in Fukushima, Japan.

Fukushima class Through support from Healing Touch Program and the generosity of donors and volunteers, a Healing Touch Level 1 Class and free Clinic were provided by the Hashiba Institute. 45 residents of Fukushima participated in the Level 1 Class taught entirely in Japanese by Hashiba Institute founder Rumi Hashimoto, MSN, RN, HTCP/I. Every participant came to the class having been deeply effected by the tragic events of March 11, 2011, and many continue to struggle to rebuild their lives today. Through it all, however, their humility and generosity toward others provided an unforgettable healing experience for everyone involved.

In collaboration with the Fukushima Medical University, School of Nursing, the Hashiba Institute also provided a free Healing Touch Clinic to over 35 hospital staff. Healing Touch Japan students traveled from across the country to provide full HT sessions during the first-ever Healing Touch clinic in Japan. Participants included hospital nurses, nursing assistants, social workers, therapists, nursing students and university faculty. It was a joy to give back to the hospital staff who have been working tirelessly to care for the people of their community.

After spending time in Fukushima, it's clear that there is still much to be done to help rebuild this community. Hashiba Institute stands committed to continuing their work to support their healing through the work of Healing Touch. We welcome your thoughts and suggestions on how to continue this project at  [email protected]. Our gratitude to everyone who has been a part of this life-changing experience!

"Current research suggests that the speed of this natural recovery could be impeded or hastened by the state of the patient's mind. If the patient is under emotional stress, believes that recovery is unlikely, or is otherwise in the grip of negative emotions, healing can be delayed or blocked. In contrast, if the patient enjoys a calm and positive mental state, natural recovery might take place more quickly."
