New things are blooming at HTP this spring and one is our monthly Healing Touch Community News Butterfly Heart eNewsletter. We are changing the format of our newsletter to now include many more full articles about what is happening in the HT community and continue to provide regular information and updates. The new newsletter will include a blog that will archive articles and allow easy access by topic.

At HTP we are busy with the National Accreditation Project, curriculum updates, and projects that will increase the awareness and use of Healing Touch in hospitals, healthcare settings, private practices and by individuals in their home. We hold and support Janet Mentgen's vision of making the world better by bringing Healing Touch to every home, school, healthcare facility and hospital.  Read more

Accreditation Update for Healing Touch Certified Practitioners

By Chris Gordon

Healing Touch Certification (HTC) is actively pursuing national accreditation with the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). Below is an update on some of the latest developments in the process. Visit the HTP Certification website for more details about accreditation.

Chris Gordon
The Healing Touch Certified Practitioner Entry Level Proficiency Exam is the test that will become a required part of the certification process. HTP completed the pilot exam in February with over 300 HTCPs that participated and took the pilot test. All scores for the pilot test have been sent by e-mail. Anyone who has taken the pilot test and has not received their pilot test results should contact the HTP office so that we can make sure everyone receives their results. The pilot test results will be re-scored according to the final exam and those results will be available when the final form of the test is completed.   Read more

Cynthia H 1 As a practitioner of the Healing Arts, "Professional Development" is an important part of good practice. For those of us offering energy modalities, there is a challenge to seek out guidance as our field is new and still unfolding in both conventional and integrative medical environments. HTPA is committed to participating in raising energy practice, which includes many modalities like Healing Touch, to the highest professional standards.   Healing Touch Worldwide Foundation

Be Involved ~ Healing Touch Worldwide Foundation Has the Way

HTWF Logo Healing Touch Worldwide Foundation (HTWF) was founded by Janet Mentgen, RN, BSN, HNC, H TCP/I in 1997, eight years after she founded her Healing Touch Program™. Janet direct ed that HTWF be formed as a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable corporation to receive and distribute funds to assist, encourage and advance the philosophy, objectives and techniques of Healing Touch (HT) practice. For the past 15 years, HTWF has accomplished this primarily through the funding of grants for HT research and HT humanitarian projects around the world. Click here for HTWF's annual report.

To date, HTWF has funded over $150,000 in Grant monies since its inception.

Today the Healing Touch Worldwide Foundation is about to take a giant leap forward. At the recent annual HTWF Board meeting, it was decided by unanimous consensus that the Foundation is ready to grow its fund-raising and fund-granting goals in order to meet the growth in the number of requests for grant-funding currently being received and to fulfill the expected increase in the demand for funding as the demand for Healing Touch research and humanitarian service continues to rapidly grow. This growth is evidenced by the global expansion of Healing Touch in hospitals, communities, hospices, clinics, schools of nursing, and the long term care centers throughout North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Australia, Asia, India and New Zealand.  Click here for grant information.  Read more

Healing Touch for Self Care Home Study Course

By Janna Moll, MSN, CMT, HTCP/I teaching levels 1-4, 6 and Mentor Training

Janna Moll with her
bat ring
Early last year Healing Touch Program initiated the creation of a home study course titled Healing Touch for Self Care. Several writers and editors contributed to the creation of the course material over many months. Rounds of editing followed as well as several meetings, many emails and phone calls. Finally late last year Margaret Nies and I spent three days at Sounds True to record all the 'voiceovers' for the HT Self Care Home Study Course. Margaret is the project manager for this creation and I am the 'face and voice', or as those comedians at Sounds True say, "the talent".

The home study course includes a workbook, a DVD, an audio recording and daily cards. Because it doesn't sound professional to have someone talking while demonstrating techniques, all of the voice recordings are done ahead of time and then when the filming occurs, the techniques are demonstrated while the recording is played on the set. In February of this year Margaret and I returned to Sounds True in Louisville, CO for the actual filming.   Read more

Wonderful Things are Happening in Charlotte, NC These Days
Jean Pruett
Jean Pruett

By Jean Pruett, D.Min., LPC, NCC, FBPPC, HTCP/I

On February 14, 2012 I became an officially paid HTCP in the flagship of the 3rd largest healthcare system in the country. I am now working as a Healing Touch Specialist in our new Levine Cancer Institute and am offering Healing Touch to cancer patients going through chemotherapy and radiation. They were able to find work space for me as well as a treatment room that I will have available three days a week - that was amazing!

I already have a physician who is referring patients to me on a regular basis. In addition to this wonderful change, HT Levels 1, 2 and 3 are now being offered at the Carolinas College of Health Sciences right here on our main hospital campus on a regular basis - at least monthly.

We are also beginning a research project in our new Levine Cancer Institute in April. The research will study the efficacy of Healing Touch in reducing fatigue and anxiety in cancer patients going through chemotherapy and radiation. Another research project is in the works for Coronary Artery Bypass Graft patients to look at pain reduction and shortened length of stay. And if that isn't enough, Hospice of Union County has decided to contract with an HTCP to provide Healing Touch for their patients on a full-time basis. They too are furnishing work space and a treatment room. I think that intention we all set at the HT Worldwide Conference last year that HT would grow and expand in the communities in which we work is beginning to manifest. At least it certainly is in Charlotte!

Healing Touch Clinic - Community, Opportunity, Caring

By Ann  O'Malley, RN, HTCP-I

Ann O'Malley

The Healing Touch Clinic at The Cancer Institute at Alexian Brothers Medical Center began September 2002. My inspiration to offer the clinic came from two sources. First, my mentor, Mary Sinclair, provided opportunities for me to work on the public which assisted me in trusting the work. Prior to that I felt my family and friends were just being nice telling me that Healing Touch helped them.

Second, Kathy Sinnett, an instructor from Michigan who started a HT Clinic there, put a bug in my ear. At the time I had a monthly practice group in my home, a few of which I was mentoring. I asked them if they would like to volunteer weekly if I could find a location for a clinic to work on the public. With visions of a faster way to do their 100 documented sessions, they wholeheartedly said "Yes!"

Judy Koptic, Director of Radiation Oncology (and HT student) offered her department. She said we could freely use the space as long as we offered sessions free to the public. We have cared for many of their patients. This is a response to our survey from one of them, "Healing Touch has been an important part in my cancer treatment. My overall well being has remained steady." Another reported, "The students were very professional, as well as caring and compassionate." Read more.

Practitioner Retreat and Course at Shadowcliff Lodge

REFLECT * RESTORE * REVIEW * RE-NEW * REMEMBER

May 31 - June 3, 2012, Grand Lake, Colorado

With Cynthia Hutchison, DNSc, RN, HTCP/I

Cynthia H 1 This June marks the seventh anniversary of the last time Janet Mentgen met with HTP instructors at Shadowcliff, the place she was inspired during the 1980s to develop the Healing Touch Program. Over the years, Janet met many times with her students and colleagues in this beautiful mountaintop setting overlooking Grand Lake. In honor of Janet and Healing Touch's 22 years, Cynthia was inspired to plan a four day retreat and Shadowcliff course titled "Soulful Exploration of the Concepts, Philosophy and Practices of Healing Touch" for HT Practitioners. This time of retreat, self care and study will focus how we understand and live the teachings and practices of HT at personal and spiritual levels. Join us in this pristine and sacred Rocky Mountain setting to share in soulful exploration, in deepening our community connections, as well as participating in creating a new source book for HTP on the spiritual aspects of Healing Touch. We can only accept 40 registrations due to space and a good portion have already registered for this special event. Tuition is priced low. "Every Healing Touch Practitioner should take this class."

Janet Mentgen

Healing is the work of each soul and can only occur through oneself. When we take on the role of helper/healer we keep this vital understanding in the forefront of our mind. This approach to helping provides the best skills to facilitate the client's awareness and self-discovery.

This course is for Healing Touch students interested in refining one's communication skills during a session and in identifying energetic patterns of interactions.
