WE'RE LIGHTING UP OUR UNIVERSE!
Greetings!

With December 21st approaching (marking the end of the Mayan Calendar and the end of a 5,000 year old cosmic cycle), Birth 2012 and Beyond projects are gearing up all over the world. This is a time to reflect on our role in supporting this birthing of what is being referred to by many as a "Conscious Evolution of Universal Humanity."

I 1 would like to add: WE'RE LIGHTING UP OUR UNIVERSE.

A few weeks ago, we sent out an opportunity for all to join in on the Global Oneness Day sponsored by the Shift Network in partnership with Humanity's Team (see links to these orgs further down). I hope many of you were able to participate as it was a fabulous, uplifting event with many of the pioneers in the "Conscious Evolution" movement taking part.

After listening to just a fraction of the messages presented, I couldn't help but compare what we - HTPA; you - our members; HTP and the HT Community are doing in comparison to what the other pioneers are doing and messaging. My conclusion is that we are truly being guided to create, act and participate in alignment with Global Oneness and Birth 2012, just by following the principles of our Healing Touch "work"; continuing to build Community; living and practicing through our hearts.

The clear message of Global Oneness is "THINK GLOBALLY - ACT LOCALLY" and that is exactly what we are doing in many ways, especially with our Community Connections projects and our Local HTPA Chapters. Although we are just getting started, we know we've already made a difference and WE'RE LIGHTING UP OUR UNIVERSE.

When we join together for our monthly Business Support calls and Healing Touch Practice Chats, we have attendees from all over the world. In my mind's eye, I see the LIGHT shining from every person on the call = LIGHTING UP OUR UNIVERSE. It is a confirming Vision that we are part of the Whole, connected to "all that is" - we are participating in the 'Conscious Evolution" and we are members of the "Universal Humanity." All of this is true while we continue improving the quality of our lives and the quality of life for those we touch.

May your "gift" during this Season of Love and Sharing not only be that you too experience the knowing that your life & "work" is meaningful and contributes to  the "Lighting Up of our Universe" but also that you experience the PEACE within that all of humanity is striving for.

Wishing you HAPPY HOLIDAYS and a BLESSED NEW YEAR.

TOGETHER, We are the Heart

of Healing Touch,

10/21/12: Deb Russell, RN, OCN, HTCP had an article published in her local Sunday Capital Gazette - in their magazine called Style. Deb is a nurse navigator for breast cancer patients at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. The article  spoke of the many ways she supports their breast cancer patients including offering Healing Touch. They wrote a good deal about this, including an information block in the article. E access is  www.capitalgazette.com/capital_style (article on nurse navigator). You can contact Deb for more information by emailing her:[email protected].

standdown 4 10/26/12: Susan Russell HTCP/I was lead volunteer facilitating the Stand Down for Homeless Veterans at the Dallas VA Hospital. They had 11 HTPA Community Connections Volunteers and gave HT sessions to 49 vets and support staff. The volunteers had HTPA ComCon standdown 3 Tshirts on. The VA social work dept/ Homeless Coordinator, Tammy Wood, had received such great feedback after last year's event that they gave us our own room. ALL 49 recipients got off our tables with smiles on their faces... even those who were skeptical at first. A hand-full of the Volunteers are now contacting the Planetree Coordinator at the Dallas VA with a plan to go regularly to volunteer for the Vets and staff. For more information e-mail [email protected].

Jennifer Hewat 10/31/12: Jennifer Hewat BS, RN, OCN, HTCP had an opportunity to speak about her practice, Wholistic Healthcare, and HT to 3rd and 4th year medical students at Grand Rounds last week! Volunteers gave more than seventy-five sessions during shifts of four and five hours over several days. Several came for sessions every day. Some had significant and dramatic results; others fell into a relaxed sleep. Thanks to all the loving volunteers, Healing Touch was a success at the Marine reunion. I will be looking for volunteers next November in Washington DC! See a more detailed account below.  For more information e-mail [email protected].

standdown 5 11/9/12: Susan Russell HTCP/I was lead volunteer facilitating the Stand Down for Homeless Veterans at the American GI Forum in San Antonio, Texas. November: Wanda Barboza, HTCP (since October 1998) - sent something to shout about in her own words:

Wanda BarbozaThis may not seem to some as "something to shout about," but to me it IS. I recently took the HT Proficiency Exam. At my age, disliking the idea of taking tests, and feeling a bit out-of-touch, I was not enthused about taking this necessary exam. However, my belief in and respect for HT along with my knowing that this test is a paradigm shift for this complementary therapy gave me confidence and a sense of pride as I contemplated the journey and progress of the Healing Touch Program, and my own. Setting my own nervousness aside, I boldly set about finding a proctor, registering for the test and preparing myself. To prepare myself, I reviewed the Level 1 through 5 workbooks, reviewed the exam study guide from HTP and reread the Healing Touch Guidebook by Dorothea Hover-Kramer. Doing this test preparation, turned out to be a joyous reconnection with HT for me. As I reviewed the material, a simultaneous review of my learning, experiences and growth took place in the background of my mind and heart. The many ways in which I now understand, appreciate and connect with "the work" was made as new. Truly, there are many blessings that come with the prompting from dear Janet Mentgen to just "do the work." My bottom line message that I want to express to whomever may read this is....if you have been thinking about taking the test, but hesitate for any reason, know that you will be rewarded and made joyous in the long run for having done so. In Love & Light

HWP Logo Healing Warriors Program (HWP) is a new 501(c)(3) non-profit organization launched by three Healing Touch Practitioners, Shelley Poland, Jane Trexler and Ana Yelen. The mission of Healing Warriors Program is to advance individual wellbeing for Veterans and their families through complementary care services and education. Community Connections Volunteers Thinking Creatively

shirt front

When Susan Russell, HTCP/I was organizing the two Stand Downs mentioned above (under Members in Action), she got the idea of actually wearing an advertisement to identify with whom the Volunteers doing Healing Touch were aligned. After brainstorming with us a bit about graphics and text, Susan boldly went forward to have T-shirts made for all the participating volunteers. Now you can expect that T-shirts, Vests and Aprons will be appearing at all events where Community Connections Volunteers are generously sharing the "work." Here are photos to show how creative Susan became. THANKS for your creative Vision Susan!!

Brandi N Brandi Nelson, HTP, CHLC, CECP, CYT has organized a huge Healers Network using her creative thinking. Here is a recap of how she started this Network and how she turned it into an HTPA Chapter. After receiving guidance during meditation one day, I put an invitation out on Facebook for a monthly networking meeting for Holistic Practitioners and Lightworkers. I made reservations at our local Olive Garden in their private room. During our first meeting we had 21 attendees. In September our attendee count grew to 37 and in October we had 45. At the October meeting I announced I had changed the title of our group to Northern Colorado Healing Touch Professional Association Chapter for Holistic Practitioners and Light Workers. We had to change our venue in November to accommodate our growth. We had 37 people at the November luncheon. We will be posting Brandi's full recap of her Northern Colorado HTPA Chapter - look for it soon on the Community Connections website under Local HTPA Chapter Activities.

While Nanette Sagastume , HTCP was facilitating the HT sessions for the Viet Nam Marine's Reunion described above in Members in Action, she met an amazing creative volunteer. Here is Nanette's description of the meeting: "I emailed a request for volunteers for this year's reunion location (San Diego) to Healing Touch Program; this was forwarded as "blind copy" to practitioners and instructors in that geographic area. A similar request was placed on the HTPA website's Community Connections "Events" page. There were more than a dozen responses. One responder, Feion George, was unable to volunteer but offered to have her new ministry, His Love Covers Me Blanket Ministries, make one hundred and fifty lap blankets as a gesture of thanks to these Vietnam veterans-a big hit with attendees.  In this photo you can see one of the Blanket's Feion's ministry made."

GREAT "WORK" DONE BY ALL!!

HTPA January Business Support "Live" Interview

HTPA Business Support PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SERIES

Sharon R 2

"LET'S DISCUSS THE RELAXATION RESPONSE"

Tuesday, January 8, 2013 9pm - 10:15pm Eastern

with Sharon Robbins, RN, HN-BC, CCHt, HTCP

Whether you're aware of it or not, when you practice Healing Touch or other energy-based techniques you are most likely eliciting THE RELAXATION RESPONSE within yourself and within your client. Since this (theory) is yet to be proven scientifically, we can only hypothesize that this is true but when you review the facts of what comprises The Relaxation Response, it's pretty likely you will come to this same conclusion.

RR cover The Relaxation Response as proven, defined and documented by Herbert Benson, MD in his 1975 first edition book of the same name, just might give you the explanation you've been looking for to understand and language what it is that you are doing when you practice Healing Touch and/or other Energy Medicine techniques.

A focus of our discussion will be just what we might read between the lines - what liberties can we take to expand on what Herbert Benson has proven..? How does this fit with our Healing Touch and energy practice? How can we use this proven RESPONSE and apply it to our "work"? We will also discuss Dr. Benson's research of the Placebo Effect and how his findings benefit and support our practice.

This is sure to be a great discussion - join us to learn but also join us to share what your insights are about how your practice fits with The Relaxation Response - defined by Benson as "an inducible, physiologic state of quietude providing us with the ability to heal and rejuvenate our bodies." This could be the beginning of a new direction for your own personal health and for your practice.

We invite you to join us for an informative, FUN discussion!  Click here to register.

Liability Insurance Update

As Energy Medicine and Energy Practice continues to rapidly grow, so does the need to adhere to existing high professional standards and keep informed of (even participate in) developing new standards for our "new" field of care.

Liability Ins Naturally, along with this growth comes practitioner exposure. The likelihood of having a claim brought against any practitioner of Healing Touch is slim to none but just the possibility can cause discomfort and worry. To avoid unrest and concern, there are easy low-cost and necessary steps you can take.

To help guide us in these matters, we have hired Midge Murphy, JD and Professional Liability Risk Management Consultant for per diem consultation if needed but also to write articles to explain further why and how we need to protect ourselves and our clients. The first article authored for us by Midge was published in the Nov/Dec 2012 Energy Magazine titled: Legal Issues in the Practice of Energy Therapies: Reduce Your Potential Liability & Empower Your Practice with Essential Risk Management Strategies.

In her article, Midge discusses how to safeguard your practice and has included a number of important Risk Strategies to follow. She has also included the reasoning for carrying Liability Insurance Click here to learn more about our Liability Insurance Program. Midge describes why an Informed Consent that is unique to your practice and training is necessary rather than using a pre-prepared Consent or someone else's Consent Form. Midge goes even further to explain why adding a Liability Waiver to your Informed Consent is the best way to prevent a frivolous suit and she gives language for how to discuss this with your clients. To read the complete article Click Here.

Ongoing Discussions

hands 3 On the last "Live" Healing Touch Practice Chat, Monday 11/27/12, we extended our call with a short but lively discussion about the need to have an open discussion about how to language what Healing Touch is and what we are doing when we give a Healing Touch session. Despite following the advice (for some it's over years) of the importance of developing your "elevator speech," many seem to still become tongue tied when asked what it is we do when we practice Healing Touch &/or Energy Medicine in general. Is this purely a language problem or is this a deeper seated issue within our own belief system?

There are many of us who still have difficulty with some pretty basic principles of doing business and supporting ourselves financially and part of that is being able to explain what we do no matter what environment we are in but also being able to express in an empowered, confident manner how much we charge for our "work". On previous Professional Development Business Support Calls there have been other lively open discussions about what HT practitioners should (could) charge for their sessions. Setting aside the dollar and cents' issue, the more important deeper issue is addressing the guilt that some carry when money is attached to their healing "work."

Bottom Line: we have a lot of inner feelings to share and journey through about how we explain what we do; what it means to "make a living" doing what we love to do and how to accomplish that goal. Join us for the January 8, 2013 HTPA Business Support Call and the Jan. 29, 2013 "Live" Chat, when we will explore uncovering these deeper feelings and see if we can support each other to move beyond our hang-ups and limiting beliefs.
