Public hearing on sewer rates is June 2

City Council will hold a public hearing regarding the sewer rate adjustment June 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall (27 E. Main St.). Sewer rates were last adjusted July 10, 2014. The 2015 Five-Year Plan projected the need for a 5 percent sewer rate increase. The City is reducing the General Fund subsidy to the Sewer Fund by $200,000. The rate adjustment will cover the overall increased operating costs for the sewer department. The new rates would go into effect August 10. For more information, click here.

Wood Hollow Park now open

City officials and representatives from the Summit Metro Parks celebrated the grand opening of Wood Hollow Park with a ribbon cutting ceremony last Tuesday. Wood Hollow is the first Summit Metro Park in Hudson.

The park is a little more than 300 acres and includes the 1.2-mile Downy Loop. The trail's name is a nod to the small woodpeckers that are among the species inhabiting "wood hollows" in the area's beech-maple woods and wetlands. Wood Hollow also includes a 55-car parking lot and a fishing pond. A playfield will be prepped this summer, and restrooms and a picnic shelter are coming. Wood Hollow Park is located at 2121 Barlow Road and is open 6 a.m. - 11 p.m.

Commemorative tree planted in honor of John Jeffers
Current and past City Council members and City staff came together Monday, May 19, to pay tribute to John Jeffers, a former councilman who died last April at the age of 78. To honor his service to the City of Hudson, a tree was planted in his name at Ellsworth Meadows Golf Course. The 25-foot swamp chestnut oak is located behind the practice green, and the inscription at the base of it reads, "In memory of John W. Jeffers for his service to City Council and the Citizens of Hudson." Mr. Jeffers' wife Kathleen and his stepson Tom Bauer were also in attendance. Read the full story.
