Road Closures and Construction

Hines Hill Road Closed Sept. 3

Hines Hill Road will be closed at the railroad tracks for Norfolk Southern Railroad to fix the tracks at this intersection. The road closure will begin Tuesday, September 3, 2013 and will remain closed for a maximum of 30 days.  A detour route will be posted along Walters Road, Twinsburg Road, and Valley View Road.

Road.

Barlow/Terex Resurfacing

Resurfacing on Barlow Road / Terex Road between SR 91 and Barlow Farm Park is underway. Two-way traffic will be maintained, but delays are possible. Traffic zone patterns may change, so pay close attention to the signs and flagmen as the project progresses. The project is scheduled to be completed by October 11, 2013.

Pack the Pond 2013

More than 250 people attended the 2nd annual Friends of the Parks "Pack the Pond" event. Appalachian Outfitters partnered with the Friends of Hudson Parks and the City of Hudson to provide 18 kayaks and 4 paddle boards to be used by attendees.

Appalachian Outfitters also provided a kayak that was raffled off to a lucky winner. Summit Disc Golf Association held demonstrations on disc golf and provided individualized lessons. Bill and Sue Holman demonstrated geocaching and helped attendees find various geocaches hidden at Hudson Springs Park. Jim Sexton also demonstrated fly fishing techniques to those who were interested in improving their casting abilities.

Hot dogs, chips, and beverages were provided by the Friends of Hudson Parks. Additionally, Hershey's of Hudson provided ice cream sundaes for the event. The Hudson Fire Department even brought a tanker truck to the park to keep the children cooled down on a warm evening.

Scouts Bring Drop Box Back

Thanks to local Boy Scout Troop 321, the community will once again have a drop box for residents to properly dispose of worn or tattered U.S. Flags. Previously, the Hudson American Legion had provided a drop box for residents. When the American Legion left its Hudson facility, the drop box was discontinued.

The project was led by Hudson High School Senior Hunter McCollough, who, after consultation with Parks Superintendent Eric Hutchinson, set up the new drop box at Veterans Way Park. Local businesses were also generously supportive of the project, including Hudson Sherwin-Williams and Hudson Ace Hardware.

"Hunter did a great job with his Eagle Scout project," Hutchinson said. "The Flag Drop Box is a welcomed addition to Veterans Way Park and residents of Hudson now have a quick, convenient method to properly dispose of used flags."

The Boy Scouts are one of many service organizations who have the responsibility and honor to provide appropriate programs for US flag retirements and disposal.
