We had a great lesson about dental photography last night by Richard Rasmussen, Jr, DDS. Everyone who attended learned something to enhance their photography. He explained to us the basic settings on our cameras, and then he went into specific tricks and techniques for taking pictures of teeth. The information was very practical and useful.

Please join our friends from the PCDA at our annual joint meeting on November 11th. Sam Low will be speaking on Innovative Management of the Periodontal Patient. Note that this is a week earlier than our usual meeting time.

Save the date of December 4th for our Holiday Party. It will be at Eastlake Woodlands Country Club.

We need you to help those less blessed and fortunate than us by volunteering at HEP, Gulf Coast Dental Outreach, Community Dental Clinic or the Healthy Teeth Clinic, Department of Health, Largo. This also helps us by showing the legislature that we don't need them to force us to treat pro bono patients.

Please inform the staff member that pays the office bills that you want to add support (check the box) for the FDAPAC Century Club and the ADAPAC included on your membership dues statement. Starting with this renewal, you have to opt in or add on support for the PACs, instead of opting out if you don't want to contribute to them. It is more important than ever that we keep on the good side of our legislators. There are groups with deep pockets that would love to tell us what to do. Expect your membership dues statement in late November.

Warm Regards,

Marty

Innovative Management of the Periodontal Patient
With periodontitis considered to be a major chronic inflammatory disease, methodologies to manage the disease process have changed to balance the anti microbial approach with an anti inflammatory direction. Systems will be investigated to include risk assessment data collection. Evidence will be provided for developing "realistic" non-surgical/surgical therapies and the respective reevaluation with emphasis on "new" anti inflammatory systems including micro-ultrasonics and laser technology, and nutra-ceuticals as probiotics and anti-oxidants. Attention will be placed on patient engagement in the process for compliance including user friendly oral hygiene devices.

About the Speaker: Samuel B. Low, D.D.S., M.S., M.Ed., Professor Emeritus, University of Florida, College of Dentistry; Associate faculty member of the Pankey Institute with 30 years of private practice experience in periodontics and implant placement. He is a graduate of University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston. He is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and Past President of the American Academy of Periodontology. His research interests include ultrasonics, osseous grafting, anti oxidants and electronic data collection systems and is affiliated with the Florida Probe Corporation. He was selected "Dentist of the Year" by the Florida Dental Association, Distinguished Alumnus by the University Of Texas Dental School and the recipient of the Gordon Christensen Lecturer Recognition Award. He is Past President of the Florida Dental Association and a former Trustee to the American Dental Association.
