We started the year with a great meeting. Thank you to everyone who attended. Jeff Scott, DMD gave us some of the latest research on when it is safe to cement our implant crowns and when we should use screw retained crowns and/or custom abutments. He also told us the best and worst cements to use for implant retained crowns. Unfortunately, some of the cements marketed to us as being made for implant crowns are the worst ones for growing bacteria around our patient's implants. This can lead to implantitis and implant failure. The best cements contain zinc, for example Temp Bond.

Join us at the October meeting where we will learn about dental photography from Dr. Rasmussen. Good pictures are worth a thousand words, but bad pictures are just a distraction. If you want to improve your dental photography then come to the October 21st meeting.

Warm Regards,

Marty

Federal Laws May Prohibit Dentists From Texting, Calling Patients

The ADA News reports that the ADA Center for Professional Success provides tips for dentists on texting and calling patients while also offering information on federal laws, like the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, that may prohibit such acts. According to the article, "Dentists may need to obtain written consent and take other steps to avoid liability and penalties under federal laws," which were created to allow consumers to avoid unwanted communications, but may also "prevent dentists from using traditional methods to contact their patients." The article adds that some dental practices have already been sued for violating the laws.
