President's Message
THE POWER OF MANY
My wife just got back from the AIPAC (American Israel Political Action Committee) convention in Washington, DC. She was so charged up when she came home. There are so many things going on in the Middle East that have such an effect on our lives, our kids and the future of our world. The AIPAC meeting had an attendance of over 16,000 people of different race, religion and political affiliation. It raised awareness with many of our legislators of the many frightful issues facing Israel, top of which being the nuclear crisis in Iran. Top world leaders were there to express their views and to hear the opinions of those in attendance.
All year we have talked about the importance of being in the dental association. There are many reasons but perhaps the most relevant is to maintain representation in Tallahassee. If the younger dentists want to continue to see an indep endent profession they must be involved at some level, or risk the government control of our profession.
On January 29th UPCDA hosted the legislative reception at Belleair Country Club. There were state and local representatives in attendance and a number of dentists who expressed our concerns and views. It is so surprising to see how many of our political representatives had little or no idea how many dentists in our area give back through the non-profit clinics. (See pictures of the event on Facebook-UPCDA). Thanks to Bill Layman for helping to organize this reception and thank you to all the dentists that came to support our profession.
Florida Dental Association's Dentists' Day on the Hill is March 25th. This is another opportunity to get our voices heard. Anybody can go and everybody is invited to meet with lobbyists and legislators that have a direct effect on all of our futures. (Click here to view this year's issues and register). There is a free shuttle traveling to and from Tallahassee from the West Coast Dental Association for the event and includes free CE. For more information about the shuttle, click here.
Hockey night - thank you Jeremy Albert once again for
organizing this event. Bowling night was great (click here to view photos). 17 teams showed up at Countryside Lanes where everybody had a really good time. There were dentists, team members, families and sponsors - of either bowlers or supporters. Trophies were given out for high score, team and most inspirational. I don't think anybody is ready to quit their day jobs! If you didn't come make sure you put it on your calendar next year - you won't be disappointed.
March's Dental meeting is being held at Belleair Country Club. Don't miss Ally Ford, a well-known public speaker who teaches corporate mindfulness programs throughout the Tampa Bay area. She will help us discover now to optimize our minds to become happier and healthier in just 10 minutes a day. Thanks again to Bill Layman for inviting Ally to speak to us so we can get closer to the secret of life!
Today "Figure out what makes you happy and do more of it. Figure out what doesn't and do less of it". Mardy Hale.
Regards,
Larry
