President's Message
LET THE EXCTIEMENT CONTINUE
The September meeting was filled with energy. I was very pleased to see a number of old friends show up, several new members and some prospective members. I had a number of people ask me about the 53%. If you recall I stated that only 53% of the dentists in Florida are members of organized dentistry. If the number drops below 50% we could lose a lot of influence in Tallahassee. FDA's recent legislative success includes the change in law for non-covered services. If you contract with an insurance plan click here for FDA's step-by-step chart to help you understand how this law will benefit your practice.
If you are a younger dentist I would encourage you to standup and tell any dentist you know to get involved and join. This is very important. Less than 20% of the medical doctors are involved in organized medicine. You can see how unhappy most of our MD friends have become with their profession in regards to medicine, insurance and other changes.
Tell your friends that are members to come and please invite potential new members. Let's help raise the 53% so we can stay strong as an organization. Let's help keep UPCDA a leader in the West Coast and in Florida.
The October meeting will give us a chance to honor many of the dentists who have been involved in UPCDA. We owe a lot to them and others who put in a tremendous amount of time and effort to keep dentistry great.
There are many items that came up before the legislature. It is up to us to guide our government to do what is right. To do what is in the best interest of both the patients we treat and the providers who deliver the service.
I also want to thank Dr. Annelise Driscoll, who gave a riveting and important presentation at our last meeting. We are lucky to have her in our dental society. It was nice to see everybody paying attention - were you afraid you were going to get hit by the Shofar if you drifted?
In an effort to satisfy the needs of our members our meeting this month will be at the Belleair Country Club. Our own Bob Churney, who has been very involved at so many levels in our local and state dental organizations, will help lead us. Come out and show your appreciation and enjoy the fellowship of being with the top 53% that are helping to make a difference.
With many regards,
Larry
