Happy Thanksgiving!

Fall is here and the little ones at Bright Horizons have been helping my little squirrel gather acorns for the winter.

It's also almost time for Thanksgiving so we've been learning the signs around that too (happy, thank you, Thanksgiving, turkey, etc.) Here are the signs for Happy Thanksgiving:

Baby Signs on KXAN Studio 512 Nov. 16th at 12:30

Monday, Nov. 16th was my big "three minutes of fame" on KXAN talking about Baby Signing. It's hard to say much in three minutes but I wanted to say thank you again to the Super Momma's who came with babies/toddlers/child to be part of the shoot. That was the most fun part of it - seeing three families I haven't seen since a play class in June and the four-year-old little girl (pardon me - BIG girl as she corrected me) is one I taught at her childcare center when she was around 12 months. Notice she's still signing at four. GREAT JOB moms for keeping the little ones occupied and being so good to come be part of this. My cup runneth over...

Baby Signs Presentation at Austin Born

Saturday, Nov. 21st, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon

Cost: $15.00/drop-ins

(less if you are already a member of Austin Born!)

Austin Born is a wonderful place to find support for all things baby (before, during, after).

And this is a great opportunity to hear about the benefits of Baby Signs, the importance of enough tummy time and how a few signs can even help you potty train your child a year earlier than many of your friends' toddlers. Walk-ins are welcome but you can let them know you'll be there by visiting Austin Born's event Facebook Page.

Location: Special Addition

7301 Burnet Rd., Ste. 200M (next to Tuesday Morning)

Cost - $30/family

Is your older toddler or child not thrilled about the new baby on the way? This is a class just for them that focuses on their new role of "teacher" to their new baby.

Your child will feel special and be excited about being a big brother or sister by the end of the class. The whole family will play games, sing songs, learn a few signs, enjoy a story time and make a special craft to take home.

Age of Baby: Expecting to 6 months

Age of Sibling: 2 to 5 years

Note: Dolls will be available if baby is not here yet or not able to participate.

Can register on Special Addition website (time still says 10:30 but that's o.k.) or contact Tina to save your place. Walk-ins welcome.

About Tina

Are you the parent of a baby or toddler and you are frustrated and overwhelmed because you can't understand what your child needs or wants?

Baby Signs® Instructor Tina Cavanaugh is here to help you break the communication barrier! With a few signs, babies as young as seven or eight months are able to express their needs, wants, feelings and even memories. Doing this strengthens the infant/parent bond early and gives your child a jump-start toward speaking and early literacy.

With 10 years of sign language training and six years teaching Baby Signs classes, Tina shows parents how to be amazed and thrilled over and over as their baby or toddler begins to share their world with them. Being involved in a process that builds confidence and good self-esteem early in children is really important and the stories that parents share with Tina about their success is pure joy for her.

The play classes go far beyond just learning a few signs. Parents go home with information about how their baby learns and develops intellectually and emotionally through those all-imporant first few years of their lives. Come join the fun that everyone's talking about!
