A Note From Tina
Thinking About a Pet?

I just finished teaching pet signs to the toddlers in the child care centers recently and am about to teach it to the babies in the fifth of the six-class series (Sign, Say & Play) going on now at Austin Baby. Here are some reasons pets are so good for kids (and big people)....

              Protection....      First pal

    Teach gentleness, empathy and responsibility.
Provide opportunity to give and receive love.
Someone who always understands them when others don't.

This last picture pretty much sums up the best of my childhood....

If you get a pet or have one already, download the handout I give to parents so they can sign the pet signs along with their kids:  Pet Signs Download

Happy Signing,

Austin Pets Alive!

The city of Austin has a wonderful Animal Center where you can adopt a pet but the most at-risk ones live at the old Townlake Shelter that is now Austin Pets Alive which is a no-kill non-profit. They have a very thorough adoption process to make sure their animals go to good pet parents. I was impressed with all the questions and the availability of animal behaviorists and vets to get your pet off to a good start after you take them home. There's even a Facebook page for Austin Pets Alive where you can go see the latest foster fails (means a foster parent had their heart stolen and end up adopting the pet they were supposed to foster). You'll see an occasional post by me of my newest family member Cara cat.

Enough tummy time is imperative for babies and too little can lead to delays in sitting up, crawling, walking and even brain development.

Is your baby fussy and you feel you give up too easily? Let The Baby SignsŪ Program help with easy, inexpensive ideas to help your baby tolerate this very important developmental stage.

This class is for babies two to six months old.

Can register from the Special Addition website or contact Tina to reserve spot. Class will reschedule if minimum class size is not reached.

About Tina
Are you the parent of a baby or toddler and you are frustrated and overwhelmed because you can't understand what your child needs or wants?

Baby SignsŪ Instructor Tina Cavanaugh is here to help you break the communication barrier! With a few signs, babies as young as seven or eight months are able to express their needs, wants, feelings and even memories. Doing this strengthens the infant/parent bond early and gives your child a jump-start toward speaking and early literacy.

With 10 years of sign language training and five years teaching Baby Signs classes, Tina shows parents how to be amazed and thrilled over and over as their baby or toddler begins to share their world with them. Being involved in a process that builds confidence and good self-esteem early in children is huge and the stories that parents share with Tina about their success is pure joy for her.

The play classes go far beyond just learning a few signs. Parents go home with information about how their baby learns and develops intellectually and emotionally through those all-imporant first few years of their lives. Come join the fun that everyone's talking about!
