Coaches Corner

Dear  ,

"You can get disgusted, but you should never get discouraged."

Last week with a real look at first place in our sights, we lost a heart-breaker to the conference leader.  With so much at stake and falling just short, "disgust" was the prevailing emotion.  But as I watched the faces and listened to the conversation from the men in the locker room following game, I saw and heard a group that remained "encouraged" and has their sights set on another shot at the big moment.  That moment may still yet come through the finish of the regular season, but most certainly will be out there come conference tournament time.

And after bouncing back with a big win on Senior Day Saturday afternoon, I saw that "encouraged" and united team that has great leaders that are determined to make things happen.  I saw a resolve in them that has them undeterred with the challenge ahead.  For it is "the challenges" that make life interesting, and it is overcoming them that make it meaningful.

Keep the Faith,

Coach Wagner

Bees Hold Off V-Hawks Late

Wednesday February 12, 2014 - Davenport, IA -

St. Ambrose struggled from the free throw line in the second half but did enough down the stretch to hold off Viterbo 79-76 in an important Midwest Collegiate Conference game Wednesday night in Lee Lohman Arena.

The win allowed the Bees (19-7, 8-2 MCC) to keep sole possession of first place in the MCC race, a game in front of Clarke (16-10, 7-3 MCC), and setting up a crucial home game next Wednesday night against the Crusaders. William Penn (6-3 MCC) is a game and a half back.

Shepard & Lewis Lead V-Hawks Past Crusaders

Wednesday February 5, 2014 - La Crosse, WI -

Freshman David Shepard (Cedarburg, Wis) and senior Cole Lewis (Prairie du Chien, Wis) combined for 42 points to help lead Viterbo University past first place Clarke University 79-65 in Midwest Collegiate Conference play.

Leading just 34-32 at halftime, the V-Hawks came out on a mission to start the second half as they scored 18 of the first 25 points to take a 54-39 lead with just under 11 minutes remaining. Hot shooting helped spark the run as the V-Hawks got four three-pointers from four different players. Clarke would cut their deficit to nine (65-56) with 3.54 remaining but Lewis would end any thought of a comeback for the Crusaders as he scored 10 of the V-Hawks final 14 points to seal the win.
