Puma is NOT responsible for being without a home
It was just stupid human stuff, and then a small series of miracles that saved her....
This is the saga of Puma;
A man got a sweet cuddly black and white female pit bull at eight weeks old.
The man named his puppy Puma, after the wild, fierce animal of the wilderness., because he wanted everyone to know what a fierce animal he had...and Puma loved her owner fiercely, and did her best to live up to his expectations
This man had her ears clipped so she would look fierce, and in case she was ever in a fight, and the clipping was so close to her head, she has no protection from sound or insects..
But she loved her owner.
The man's wife didn't like dogs, so Puma was left to live in a garage....but Puma still loved her owner...
She loved the man's son, and always played gentle with him, and he loved her...but she was just a dog, so she lived in the garage....
After 10 years or so, the man took Puma to Meadowbrook animal Hospital, and had her medical updated, and all her shots done.
Then the man took Puma to Brooklyn, to CACC, and left her there....(believing, of course, that a ten year old pit bull with updated medical records would be a sure fire adoption....
It seems the man and the wife were getting a divorce, and there was no place for Puma, she was only a dog...
I guess Puma's owner was doing the best he could...and she was only a dog...
and Puma was very confused, and scared when her owner turned away from her and left her in a terrible , noisy, echoy, sad place, but she did what she was supposed to do.....because she was her owners dog..
Now comes the Good Samaritan part...
Kim H, who has worked at Meadowbrook Animal Hospital received a call from CACC, who wanted to know why the medical records and the microchip information
didn't match..
and Kim, horrified, asked why Puma was left at CACC...
Cacc had already transferred Puma to another, darker place, where she would not be long for this world....and
Kim argued with CACC, and then with Puma's owner, and made Puma's former owner go get Puma from the "other" CACC place..and, get this, they didn't want to give her back....Talk about narrow escapes..
So Kim,and her other half, Billie, who already has 6 or 7 dogs, now has Puma, and as sweet and docile and confused as Puma is, there is no place for her..
Now Kim calls Edie, of Animal Lifeline, who immediately calls everyone she knows, and offers to split the housing of Puma until she can find a place of her own, again.
Thru the assistance of Second Chance Rescue of Long Island, Puma is boarded at Levittown, but thru a series of mismanagement missteps and misdiagnoses, she is tossed out, after a bill of 3,500. is run up...
Now Doctor Guzman at Assissi Veterinarian in Malverne steps in and offers to help.
Kim and Billy, and Edie all step up to the plate.....
Puma is brought to Assissi, and is pronounced to be a "couch potato" of a dog...
She is understandably confused, and seems sad, but still wags her whole tail and body when she gets a head rub...
Puma, who seems to have no kennel cough at all, gets a pretty clean bill of health, but a tumor is found and needs to be checked.
Dr Guzman operates on the tumor ok) and also spays Puma....
Puma learns that she can still steal chicken strip treats from her buddies pockets even with a medical cone on her head.
Puma loves tummy rubs, she looks silly lying on the floor in the "swimmers position, and she can remove your makeup with one swipe of her tongue...
She lets Edie, who is all of 4 feet 11 inches tall, walk her without any problem...
All the Staff at Assisi Veterinarain in Malverne praise her temperament..
But, we are desperate to find a foster home, and of course, a permanent , loving home for this girl who is still wondering what happened to her home of 10 years...But is very grateful to all the new people in her life who pet her, and bring her chicken treats....
Please help us to find her a place...call 516-THE-SPCA or email adopt@ncspca.us
