NEWS ALERT                                              516-THE-SPCA
Nassau County SPCA Announces

HOAX or NOT?
Your NASSAU COUNTY SPCA
will be offering a
$2500.00 REWARD
for information leading to the arrest & conviction of anyone injuring or killing any animal
from now until Halloween

It is an announcement that has animal lovers angry and worried.

Someone has proclaimed Halloween as 'National Kill a Pit Bull Day' encouraging people to go out and actually kill the controversial dogs.

We at the Nassau County SPCA feel it's extremely horrifying!

In the last few days an announcement has popped up on Tumblr and YouTube. It reads in part, "I'm here by announcing October 31 National kill a pit bull day. After you take the kids trick or treating keep your costume on round up some friends and kill as many pit bulls as you can before midnight."

We  at the Nassau County SPCA were stunned. We don't understand where these things come from and feel very badly that anyone would put something like that out. Officials have tried to track down the author of it, but it has been reposted too many times.

The message itself even suggests ways to kill the dogs saying in part, "Baseball bats, knives, bricks and poisons (a hot dog soaked in radiator fluid works well) are all suitable tools." This truly is horrendous!

It's not clear if the original poster really wants the dogs dead or if it's just a hoax, either way  thousands of people have viewed it. Whatever the intent, the damage may have been done. The Nassau County SPCA feels that whether this a hoax or not, it absolutely does cause real concern.  Even if this person thinks he or she is being funny, other people might take it very seriously, one never knows. It is for this reason that your Nassau County SPCA is offering this reward. If anyone has information about someone causing an injury or killing any animal please call

516-THE-SPCA

All calls will be kept confidential!

If you witness someone in the act of injuring or killing an animal call 911 first.
