Nassau County SPCA Announces
Cat Uses Some of Its Nines Lives
Feline Dumped Over 5 Miles from Home Survives Irene Thanks to Kindhearted
Before Irene, Stephanie Cesnak of Scriven Ave. North Bellmore, NY, returned home from work expecting to be greeted by her cat, Blossom, but she was nowhere to be seen. Knowing that this was unlike Blossom, Ms.Cesnak became concerned when blossom failed to show up at all that evening, panic set in. The next day, Ms. Cesnak started searching, asking neighbors if they had seen Blossom. Flyers with a picture of Blossom were posted around the neighborhood. Then the unusual happened, a Fenimore St. resident told Ms Cesnak that she knew where her cat was. She informed her that her cat had been trapped on her property, taken, and released near the dump in Merrick and left abandoned. Ms. Cesnak then called the Nassau County SPCA for assistance. Nassau County SPCA officials visited the Fenimore St. resident who admitted that he trapped a cat on his property, and then at night drove it over 5 miles and dumped the cat on Clubhouse Rd in Merrick. The male resident then met Nassau County SPCA officials at the location where he abandoned the cat. He showed Nassau County SPCA officials how the cat ran along the fence heading south on Clubhouse Dr.. Using that information, Ms. Cesnak started putting up the flyers. By chance, she came upon a kindhearted woman who had found Blossom and along with neighbors had been caring for her, even taking her in during Irene, possibly saving her life. Blossom was thrilled to be reunited against all odds with her family. The Nassau County SPCA will be contacting officials in regard to charges being filed for this cruel act.
