Greetings! 

What a week it was! Senior Awards Day, Baccalaureate Mass at Little Flower, and Commencement all rolled together as a wonderful tribute to the Scecina Class of 2016. During a full three-day period, these fine young people wrapped up four years of Catholic high school and commenced the next stages in their lives...

The Class of 2016, along with their families, friends, teachers and administrators, enjoyed three days of celebration of the accomplishments and the memories from their four years at Scecina Memorial High School.

You may remember Donald Winston, Class of 1996, from his accomplishments on the football field, on the basketball court and track. He was one of six finalists for Mr. Football in 1995 and won a state title in the high jump.
 
But Donald most cherishes advice Coach Ott Hurrle '70 gave  him on his first day of school that led to him graduating from a Division 1 college. Coach Hurrle's advice was: "What are your goals and what do you want to accomplish while attending Scecina?"
 Each month the Teacher Spotlight highlights one of Scecina's staff members who inspire our students every day.

Jesse Purvis has gone from being president of Scecina's Class of 2006 to heading up the school's English Department. He returned to his high school alma mater this past school year and also coaches soccer and the Academic Super Bowl team. 

This Wabash College graduate is passionate about kids, education and English literature. 
Students from Kathryn Wetzel's theatre classes enjoyed a performance of "The Mousetrap" and an inside look at the theatre experience.

It was an Agatha Christie "whodunit." Twenty-nine students from Scecina's theatre classes entered the Indiana Repertory Theatre in Downtown Indianapolis in search of "how they dunit." They came out in awe of how much occurs behind the scenes to create that theatre magic.

The 2016 Scecina Alumni Classic will be Friday, June 17. The location will be at West Chase Golf Club with a tee time of 9:30 a.m. West Chase Golf Club is owned by Richard '69 and Patricia (Nonte) '71 Smith.

Can you help with Club 53 silent auction?
It's time to mark your calendars for Scecina's Club 53: Live and Local on Saturday, Nov.12, 2016.The band Tastes Like Chicken will return to rock the crowd.

Our silent auction is key to this fundraiser, and we're looking for someone to lead this effort.

  • In April, Mike Griffin '62 was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Class 2016. Mike spent 41 years coaching basketball at various levels in Brownsburg, including leading the girls basketball team to its only undefeated regular season and State Finals appearance. Griffin, also a graduate of Marian College, served as Brownsburg boys varsity head coach from 1983-85, leading the program to a 24-19 record, including a Hendricks County championship. A 19-year run as girls varsity head coach beginning in 1986 produced a 303-111 record, including 10 county championships, five sectional championships, two regional titles and a trip to the 1991 State Finals with a 25-0 team. Leading four of his teams to 20-win seasons, he was named the 1991 State Coach of the Year, 1994 Indiana All-Star assistant coach, a two-time District Coach of the Year and 11 other Coach of the Year honors. He and his wife, Jill, reside in Brownsburg.
     
  • Dennis Smith '67, vice president for the global oil exploration firm Nabors Industries, received an honorary doctorate of engineering degree from his alma mater, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, during the 138th commencement on May 28.   • Dawn (Till) Fitzgerald '89 accepted a position in February 2016 with Paychex Insurance as a Commercial Insurance Specialist Service Specialist II.
  • Leeann Sausser '12 was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, America's most prestigious academic honor society. Congratulations, Leeann!
