A message from the president
President Joe Therber
To help Scecina move forward on a positive note, we like to gauge our community's thoughts about the quality of a Scecina education.

Each year we survey our parents, students, and staff, as part of our Net Promoter Score survey. To parents, we ask, one simple question: "As a parent, how likely is it that you would recommend Scecina Memoria High School to your family, friends, and colleagues?" Respondents rate their likelihood to promote on a scale of 1 to 10. They explain why they selected 10 or what areas need to be addressed in order for their rating to be a 10.

Conducting the Net Promoter Score survey, a customer loyalty metric, is an initiative of Scecina's  Strategic Growth Plan. In December we again invited you to take this survey. Thank you to all who participated.

I'm happy to report that Scecina's average Net Promoter Score from this recent Parent and Guardian Survey is 8.58 (out of 10). We're very pleased with these results.

Here are some examples of the uplifting comments from parents:
  • "We value a Catholic education and environment.  I think it makes a huge difference in what is expected of the child both in behavior and grades."
  • "I feel that Scecina is a great school academically and socially for our son.  It is a big extended family who is supportive of everyone involved."
  • "Scecina High School has some excellent educators, provides a more personal experience for those who wish, provides solid academics, offers diverse clubs, focuses on appropriate manners and faith-based values, and includes a diverse socio-economic student clientele."
  • "Faculty really care about student achievement and it shows.
The survey results also list some recommended priorities, based upon your feedback. You can read more about the survey and the results at www.scecina.org/what-parents-are -saying.

God bless,

Joe Therber

Marian University's
College Tips
FAFSA
Exploring a college education can come with a bit of sticker shock. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) discloses the types of loans your student qualifies for and helps you get a better grasp of the price and value of your student's future education. Learn more about applying for financial aid by visiting the Marian University website.

Get a Head Start
Talk to your student about taking AP or dual-credit classes to get a better idea of the academic rigor ahead of them.  Not only will this prepare them for the college classroom, but also provides them with the opportunity to gain college credit before becoming a student at a university.  Universities will notice your student's hard work, which might set them apart from other applicants.  Ask your student to talk to their counselor and see what their school has to offer.

Reminders
Cafeteria announcement
Please check your students lunch balances and pay off as soon as possible! We are starting breakfast the first of March.

You should have received a letter about the new online cafeteria payment system. Thank you to all parents who are using it. For the parents who aren't, please try at www.mymealtime.com.

The cafeteria will continue to accept checks or cash.
Please try to keep your balance under $21.

Please report college acceptances
Seniors who have been accepted to a college should take their acceptance letter and any scholarships they have been awarded to Jennie Kitchell, College and Career Counselor. Students who report these to the Guidance Department then can wear college gear to school. Also, the Guidance Department acknowledges all acceptance and scholarships at graduation and tracks how much scholarship money students have earned.

Service Opportunities
Scecina students are required to have service hours. Here are some current opportunities:
Carpool Connection
Anyone interested in carpool information should send an email to admissions@scecina.org and give an email address and zip code. The information provided will then be posted on the school website under Student Life, then Carpool. Parents can email families in their zip codes to discuss carpooling. Thank you for helping other families in the Scecina Community with their transportation needs.
