Preparing the Way of the Lord
In our Catholic liturgical year, we are in the midst of Advent, a season of waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas. "Advent" is a version of the Latin word meaning "coming." Throughout our school, our Nativity sets are displayed without Baby Jesus to remind us that we joyfully are awaiting His coming.

At Scecina, we also are undergoing a more earthly type of waiting and preparation as we proceed with the Capital Campaign Exploration, Discovery and Financial Feasibility Study.  Over the past two weeks, more than 180 people took part in 15 input and listening sessions for this exploration and feasibility study process  . . . Scecina Memorial High School wishes everyone a blessed Christmas and a happy New Year. We pray that 2016 will be full of many blessings and joyful times for you and your family.

We hope you enjoy our video Christmas card with our greetings sent through the voices of six Class of 2016 singers: Joseph Johnson, Bailey Hope, Michaela Heil, Madeline Gray, Narongchai Py Khonwai and Eamon Hegarty. They perform the a capella arrangement of "That's Christmas to Me" by Pentatonix.

David Ray has a fulfilling career as a project manager for Miller-Eads Company, and in November he was elected an Indianapolis City-County Councilman for District 19. Not only does David love his position as a project manager working on electrical installations throughout Central Indiana, but he also is more than excited to be a voice for the Eastside of Indianapolis.

For Betsy (Kinne) Smith '65, living in Atlanta's suburbs allowed

"In Atlanta, the film industry gets a tax break, so all the big studios are moving here," said Smith, who stars in her biggest role so far in a made-for-TV movie that originally aired on Dec. 10 on NBC, "Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors." The movie drew such a large audience that it will be rebroadcast on Christmas night on NBC.                               ...Read More

When a Scecina student approached teacher Andrew Smith about starting a chess club at school this year, Mr. Smith said he shrugged and said, "Sure. I've got the time."
That he had the time is a feat, because Mr. Smith also teaches a full menu of social studies classes while serving as adviser to the Robotics Club, the Debate Club and Scecina's chapter of the Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society. He's also Scecina's Selective Service and Voter Registrar    . . . Read more

The purpose of the West Point conference is to help students confront the ethical challenges that they face in school today, as well as those they will face in years ahead, by giving them tools to use as leaders in their school and community.                                                    ...
