Applications for current student scholarships for the 2016-2017 school year are available on the Scecina website. There are five opportunities for current students to earn a scholarship for next school year. Don't miss out on this opportunity! Please complete survey by today
The annual Net Promoter Score survey was sent to parents and guardians this month. This survey helps us to identify areas of strength and areas for improvement. We appreciate you taking the time to complete this brief Net Promoter Score survey by Friday, Dec. 11, to help us continue growing as a community of faith, knowledge and service.
Students also should complete the survey that was sent to their school email addresses.

Each week the Scecina Student Spotlight introduces the Crusader Community to a student who has been a recipient of the President's Academic Excellence Award. This week's spotlight is on Bo Sims.
Junior Bo Sims, who has a wide range of interests and abilities, is taking advantage of all Scecina has to offer in order to shape his high school experience into a memorable journey that will prepare him for the next steps in life.

Finals Week schedule
First-semester finals begin on Tuesday Dec. 15. On Thursday and Friday there will be early dismissal.
- Tuesday Dec. 15: Finals for Periods 1 and 2. Regular dismissal time.
- Wednesday Dec. 16: Finals for Periods 3 and 4. Regular Dismissal.
- Thursday Dec. 17: Periods 5 and 6. Early Dismissal at 10:40 a.m.
- Friday Dec. 18: Periods 7 and 8. Early Dismissal at 10:40 a.m.
During Finals, please keep all cellphones in lockers.
Online pay for cafeteria
Our new online payment option will be added soon for the cafeteria. Please watch for an important letter that will include instructions and your student's number. You will need to set up your account on the website.
DePauw Honor Band
The following Scecina students were selected to participate in the DePauw University Honor Band: Eamon Hegarty, Bailey Hope, Michael Rosswurm, Bo Sims and Kevin Redmond.
Key Club Coat Drive
The Scecina Memorial High School Key Club's third annual coat drive starts in January. Throughout the month, club members will be collecting gently used coats, hats, gloves and scarves, which will be donated to Catholic Charities. Please bring in these items during January.
Meeting canceled: There is no Key Club meeting on Tuesday Dec. 15.
Host families needed
Two new international students will be joining us at Scecina for the second semester of the 2015-2016 school year. One is a freshman girl from China who enjoys sports and art. The other student is a sophomore boy from India who enjoys movies, photography and sports. Alumni Appreciation Night
Join your fellow alumni and friends in supporting your Crusader boys varsity basketball for Red and Gold Night at Scecina on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016. Scecina will play Cardinal Ritter at 7:30 p.m.
All alumni are invited to cheer on your Crusaders for FREE. Complimentary popcorn and drinks provided. Tours will be available beginning at 6:45 p.m. to those who would like to see the many renovations made to the school recently. RSVP online below or email Rose Timpe at rtimpe@scecina.org.
You will receive four tickets and vouchers for one popcorn and one drink per person. Go Crusaders!
Christmas shopping in the bookstore
Need some nice Christmas gifts for students, friends and family? Pick up some Scecina gear in our bookstore. Besides our regular gear,
we now have Scecina Mom, Dad and Grandparent sweatshirts and t-shirts in the Bookstore. They are going fast!
For your holiday shopping convenience, the Bookstore will be open extra hours on several days. We will be open Saturday Dec. 19 and Monday Dec. 21. Get out the ugly Christmas sweaters The Student Council will be putting on an Ugly Christmas Sweater day on Wednesday, Dec. 16. Students will wear their uniform pants but will be able to wear any appropriate Christmas sweater, shirt, tie, etc. No fee required.
Financial Aid Night on January 14
Speakers: Kristine Butz from the University of Notre Dame Office of Financial Aid and Michael Jackson from Education Planning Resources.
What: Opportunity to learn about post-secondary financial aid process and options.
Where: Scecina Memorial High School-Room 006/Music Room from 7-8:30 p.m.
All senior and junior students and their families should join us on Wednesday Jan.14 at 7 p.m. to gain critical insight into the financial aid process for post-secondary programs. This meeting will specifically provide information on the following topics:
- The financial aid process in general.
- Accessing and completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Applying for grants and scholarships.
- Timelines for student aid, grants and scholarships.

Little Flower After-school Care
Little Flower is looking for a Scecina student to help with their after-school program. This is a paid position. The Scecina student would need to go to Little Flower after school each day until 5 p.m. If you are interested, please contact Mr.Gawrys, principal of Little Flower, at kgawrys@littleflowerparish.org.
Lunch balances due
Please remember to pay the balance of your lunch accounts before the end of the semester.
March For Life trip
Students who want to attend the March for Life in Washington, D.C., in January can travel with the Crusaders for Life, Scecina's pro-life club, Jan. 20-24. The trip costs $250 per student. The permission slip and a $125 deposit are due to Mrs. Siap by Dec. 7. See Mrs. Siap for a permission slip or more information, msiap@scecina.org.
Phone found
There is an unclaimed phone in the main office that was found before fall break. It is a Cricket and it appears to have engagement pictures as the screen saver. Anyone claiming it will need to unlock it to prove ownership.
Carpool Connection
Anyone interested in carpool information should send an email to admissions@scecina.org and give an email address and zip code. The information provided will then be posted on the school website under Student Life, then Carpool. Parents can email families in their zip codes to discuss carpooling. Thank you for helping other families in the Scecina Community with their transportation needs.
Driver Education
Registration packets for our 2016 Driver Education classes are available in the main office. Classes will begin Jan.10. The cost is $360 for Scecina students and $425 for non-Scecina students. Scecina students will receive priority in enrollment. Students must be at least 15 years old by Jan. 10 in order to take Driver Education.
The class is limited to the first 40 students to register. Please contact Ott Hurrle at ohurrle@scecina.org should you have any questions. Registration deadline is Jan. 10, 2016.

Scecina sports passes
Scecina Sports Passes are on sale in the Athletic Office. The passes are $75 for one or $125 for two. Each pass will admit one adult to all Scecina Home Athletic Events for the 2015-16 school year. As always, our Future Crusaders (Scecina siblings and Partner School students) are admitted at no charge. The Scecina Sports Passes are not valid at away games, city tournaments, or IHSAA sectional games even if they are hosted by Scecina. Scecina students are required to have service hours. Here are some current opportunities:
- The Downtown Mater Dei Knights of Columbus at 13th and Delaware can always use help to take care of cleaning projects, move tables and chairs, sprucing up the garden, etc. Also there are opportunities to help with our pro-life monthly fundraising brunches and other charitable events. Student should make sure their parking tags are visible in their vehicles when they are parked at Scecina during school hours.
Daily Attendance
The office will send a daily confirmation e-mail when your student is absent from school. If you have called to inform us of your student's absence, he or she should be listed as ABSENT EXCUSED. If we have not been able to confirm with you that your student is ill, he or she will be listed as ABS. UNEXCUSED. As a reminder, please call the office at 356-6377 by 9 a.m. to report each day that your student misses school. If there is no answer, please leave a message.
Bookstore hours
There will be special holiday bookstore hours. Please see note above. Otherwise, the regular Bookstore hours for the school year are:
Mondays: 7:15-8:15 a.m. and 2:45-3:30 p.m.
Tuesdays and Wednesdays: 7:15-8:15 a.m.
Thursdays: 7:15-8:15 a.m. and 2:45-6 p.m.
Fridays: 7:15-8:15 a.m.
The bookstore also will be open during various school and athletic events.
Handbook reminder: Tardiness
We encourage students and families to arrive to school on time. Students reporting late to school will go directly to the main office to receive a pass to their first period class. Students will be given 4 exempted tardies to 1st period during the course of each semester. After the 4th tardy, all tardies to 1st period are unexcused.

Entrances to the school building
Please remember that everyone is required to use the front doors to enter Scecina during school hours.
Lunch policy
Students may not charge more than $21 on their lunch accounts. If they are above that amount, the cafeteria will serve them a peanut butter and jelly sandiwich and a milk until the lunch account is current
Please check with Julie Brown at jbrown@scecina.org if you need to know your student's balance. Please try to keep money in their accounts this year!
