A new school year: better than ever 
at Scecina

 
 
Greetings!
On behalf of the staff at Scecina Memorial High School, I want to welcome everyone to the new school year. We continue to show growth in enrollment and, with 451 students starting school this year, we are well on the way to our target enrollment of 475 students in the next five to seven years. We welcomed the Class of 2019 with 128 freshmen, as well as 29 transfer students, and their families.

Whether your family is new to Scecina, or you've been a member of the Crusader community for years...

Alex Grohovsky, Class of 2007 and now an international economist, says Scecina's size allowed him to explore theater, sports, debate and more while he was a student. 

 
Mark your calendars for Saturday, Nov. 14, for another night of fun, local food and drink, and socializing at Club  53.

If you are an Indiana resident and have thought about making a donation to help low- and middle-income students attend Scecina, now is a great time. A program in Indiana called the School Scholarship Tax Credit makes it possible for individuals or businesses that donate to a Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) to receive tax credits equal to fifty-percent (50%) of the amount donated. Two Scecina alumni who are certified public accountants, George Newhart and Jeff Lathrop, help explain the tax credit here. 
 

Tastes Like Chicken will play at Scecina on Nov. 14.

This is the first time Tastes Like Chicken, which is celebrating its 20th year, will play at Club 53. Vic Koons, a founding band member with keyboardist Mike Moore, explained the band's name. "It came about as a joke made about Hardee's testing fried chicken many years ago," Koons said. "It was so stupid it stuck."
But the band's longevity is no joke, as it has played around Indy for the past two decades, and some members have played with other popular local bands in the past. TLC plays rock, pop, R&B and disco.

The Scecina Veterans Committee desires to add a plaque to the base of the bronze bust of Father Tom that lists those graduates who have given their lives in military service to our country from Vietnam to the present. Please click here to see a current listing of alums that the school is aware of who fit the criteria.

For the past several months, Scecina graduates have returned to the school to take part in a new initiative that's going to create stronger alumni connections.
Scecina alumni from each graduating class from 1957 through 2011 who live in the Indianapolis area were invited to participate in Alumni Information Gathering Sessions.
The Class of 1995 will be holding its 20-Year Class Reunion at 7 p.m. Saturday October 17 at the Northside Knights of Columbus.
