A message from the president

President Joe Therber. speaks with a parent during New Student Orientation on Aug. 5.

Dear Crusader community,

As the time for that first day of school draws closer, our work is taking shape here to make it another great year at Scecina Memorial High School. We have much good news to share:

  1. We're delighted that the City of Indianapolis is installing new sidewalks in front of and in close proximity to Scecina.
  2. We're seeing the cafeteria improve day by day. The renovated space will be a very welcoming and uplifting place for our students and community to gather.  Please click here to see "before" and "in progress" photos on our Cafeteria Renovation page.
  3. We have a fully staffed faculty and are prepared to meet the needs of our students and parents.
We have several new faculty members and administrators joining the veterans. This week, I'd like to introduce you to three new school leaders:
Maria Siap, Director of Campus Ministry;
Mark Paras, Dean of Students; and
Jeremy Corn, Director of Guidance.  Please click here to read more about them on the President's Blog on our website.

We welcome Maria, Mark and Jeremy and thank them for their willingness to provide guidance, wisdom and knowledge to your children.

May God grant us many blessings as we begin anew at Scecina.

Joe Therber

President

In addition, students in an Honors English class, AP Language class, or AP Literature class are required to read a second book of their choice from the list provided. It is recommended that students keep a journal with a brief summary, relevant facts, names, themes and other important information about the books they read. Students will be assessed on the books within the first two weeks of school.

Tuition contracts must be turned

in for students to start classes

Thank you to the families who have returned their tuition contracts.

Many families have not returned their tuition contracts to the Tuition Office nor have all their steps from the checklist been completed.  These steps must be completed as soon as possible in order for your student/students to start school in August. The 2015-16 tuition paperwork was mailed to each family in May.

Parents, please open your tuition packets and complete the paperwork and steps on the checklist to assure your student is ready to start school.  Tuition assistance and voucher renewal steps are included in the tuition packet. If you have questions, please contact Tuition Manage rMaureen Okerson at 352-3262 or Tuition Assistant Ivette Clinger at 352-3224.

2015-16 Uniform Policy

There are some changes to our Uniform Policy for next school year. Students will be able to wear khaki dress uniform pants from Schoolbelles as well as three other brands: Dockers, Dickies and French Toast. They must be neat and unmarked (no stripes, designs, etc.).  The following pants are not allowed: Capris or cargo or "skinny" pants, or pants made of denim, fleece, velour or athletic warm-up style.

Students will continue to wear the uniform polo shirt. There will be two styles of uniform sweatshirt (pictured below): crewneck and quarter-zip. The polo shirts and sweatshirts are available only in the Scecina Bookstore. Students will not be able to wear hooded sweatshirts (hoodies) at any time, including on Friday Spirit Days.

Senior immunizations

The Indiana State Department of Health now requires that all seniors have a second MCV4 vaccination. The only students exempt from this requirement are those who received their first MCV4 on or after their 16th birthday. Please be sure to get your senior's updated record to the main office. Summer office hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The office fax number is 322-4287.

National Catholic Youth Conference

The National Catholic Youth Conference will be in our city, Indy, Nov. 19-21. Registration and scholarship information is due over the summer with final payments due Sept. 14.

The theme for NCYC 2015 is Here I am Lord-Aqui Estoy Senor. About 23,000 high school students and chaperones will be in attendance.
