  • Financial Aid Reminder!  The free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) now is available www.fafsa.gov.  Timing is crucial.  Start early to ensure your application is complete by March 1.  Be sure to check individual college websites to see if there is an earlier deadline for that school.

  • College Goal Sunday is Feb. 22.  Financial aid professionals volunteer at several locations in the Indianapolis area to help college-bound students and their families open the door to financial aid. To find the location nearest you, visit www.collegegoalsunday.org

Juniors
  • ACCUPLACER Diagnostic Exam:
    • Indiana lawmakers have passed HEA 1005 requiring public school and accredited non-public school students who meet certain criteria (based on PSAT scores and ECA scores) to take the ACCUPLACER Diagnostic exam. The results of the ACCUPLACER exam show student performance in Reading, Writing, and Math skills as they relate to being "College and Career Ready." Scecina students meeting the criteria will be taking this exam the first week of February.  Students who are testing will be notified during the week of Jan. 26. For more information on HEA 1005 and the criteria used for assessment identification, please visit www.doe.in.gov/achievement/ccr

    • Students found to need remediation in Reading/Writing or Math as a result of this assessment will be provided with remedial opportunities during daily resource time.  Remediation will be aimed at increasing college and career readiness. If you have any questions regarding this assessment or the remediation process, please contact a member of the guidance department.

  • College Planning Night for juniors is at 7 p.m. Jan. 29 in the music room. This will be a very informative evening for juniors and their parents as we begin to look at senior year course selection and college planning for senior year.
  • PSAT scores for sophomore and juniors were handed out during Catholic Theology classes on Jan. 13. The guidance department will be assisting students in interpreting the reports. If you have questions regarding your child's report, please contact a member of the guidance department.
  • We encourage all juniors to take the ACT and SAT during spring of junior year.
College Information
  • Congratulations to seniors who already have received acceptance letters! Colleges and universities have different turnaround times, with some not sending out  acceptances until winter or early spring. Please visit the individual college site for more information on the length of time between application and acceptance. Please also remember to bring copies of all acceptances and scholarship offers to Mrs. Joyce.
  • Wabash College will host its 43rd annual Opportunities to Learn About Business (OLAB) program. Every summer, about 60 boys and girls who will be entering their senior year in high school spend a week at Wabash College at an educational camp taught by college professors and Indiana business leaders. The Labbies do not pay a dime to attend (except for travel to and from Wabash) since philanthropic sponsors provide $1,000 scholarships. It's an outstanding educational opportunity for young people.
  • The OLAB week (July 12-18, 2015) is demanding and challenging. Wabash is looking for high-quality, motivated students. Interest in business is NOT required. There are plenty of opportunities -- from making a TV commercial to giving speeches -- to learn creativity in running a business. Any current juniors interested, please visit www.wabash.edu/olab for more information and application forms. Applications must be received by April 22 for this year's program, which runs from July 12-18.
