At the close of the school Mass on Wednesday, we sang "Blessed Are They". The lyrics are taken from the Beatitudes, which are at the heart of Jesus' preaching and are found in Matthew 5:3-12. In light of recent events, I couldn't help reflecting on the second beatitude:
Matthew 5:4 "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted."
Coach Ott Hurrle has been named the 2014 Power of Influence Award recipient. The Power of Influence award was created as a way for the AFCA and AFCF to honor deserving high school football coaches. Coaches who receive this award are recognized for their impact on their team and players, as well as the legacy they leave with the school and community.
Scecina Memorial's annual Service Day was held on Monday, September 15th. Members of the freshmen and sophomore classes spent their day in service to 16 sites around the community. The day began with a brief prayer service, and then the students were split into their service site groups to meet each other and begin the day's activities.
The Scecina Athletic Department welcomed over 60 CYO football players and cheerleaders from our East Deanery partner schools to the 2014 football home-opener against conference rival Speedway High School. Proudly sporting their team uniforms, the boys and girls filled the stadium at Manual High School.
