Spring is in the air. As the weather gets warmer and spring cleaning begins you may wonder what financial papers to keep and which are okay to throw away. Since the IRS has six years to audit you, the general rule is to keep your documents for a minimum of six years. If you are unsure if you should get rid of a document, you can always scan it and keep a digital copy. And remember, to help protect your identity from thieves, don't just throw documents with sensitive information on them in the trash, shred them before throwing them away.
