Pentecost Season 2016

We hope everyone is having a fine end-of-summer. Programs at Christ Church will start on September 11th but before that we'll be in touch directly so we can plan out our fun and exciting Church School program. The Director and I are hoping to have folks sign up Sunday by Sunday (online...you'll see) to provide support. We're still hoping to train a few more Godly Play teachers, if possible, and simply gauge interest level. Nurturing and collaborating with our youngest, is often a mutually powerful way to deepen our own life-in-Christ.

Guatemala August, 2016! See PHOTOS below

Church School Notes

Welcome Home Sunday is September 11th.

Fall Planning:

We are hard at work:

1) Director and Rector are meeting to discuss the worship, music, art and curriculum for the fall. Looks exciting with some creative worship being planned already.

2) We're going to send a link in the Reminder as well as a direct email out for volunteer sign-ups in the Church School (using a new online signup tool). In order to have a safe and creative program we need to know that there will be two support staff/adults/parents available each Sunday to participate, to help with break-out activities, to help re-direct as needed.

3) On September 11th we will have an all church school get to know you time downstairs on our first Sunday together.

4) September 18th, Dave plans to be down in the Church School; Church School Committee/Friends Meeting after church in the Library

First Take
14th Sunday after Pentecost:
It's a little too easy to be critical of the synagogue leader in Luke's story for this Sunday (Luke 13:10-17). He may be a very good leader, caring for his congregation, trying to help them understand the Hebrew scriptures, helping them to lead righteous and rule-abiding lives as is required. Along comes this interruptive Rabbi who up-ends Sabbath rest and study! It's important to note that historically many of the chief Rabbis allowed exceptions to the Sabbath principle of rest especially when related to care-giving. So why is this leader so unhappy? Perhaps there is a deeper issue related to Jesus' demeanor and way of life rather than just to the Sabbath. What if the deeper issue was Jesus' very freedom from the established "rule book"? What if the leader understood from the outset that Jesus was gently but firmly pushing aside all of the "standards" of purity, practice and pageantry for a simpler life of grace and a clearer walk together with God?
