Pentecost Season 2016

We hope everyone is having a fine end-of-summer before gearing up for the new academic year. All our programs at Christ Church will start on September 11th but before that we'll be in touch directly so we can plan out our fun and exciting Church School program. The Director and I are hoping to build a support team or teams, find a few more Godly Play teachers, if possible, and simply gauge interest level. Participating in the Church School, nurturing and collaborating with our youngest, is often a mutually powerful way to deepen our own life-in-Christ.

Our summer mission group is in Guatemala this week! Please keep them in your prayers. They are Suzanne Powell, Charlotte Powell, Julia Powell, Christine Walley, Hannah Walley, Thomas Powell, Hannah Flath, Dayna Flath, Paloma Flath, Michael Fineran, Kelsey Aarrestad, Dee Dee Markes and Kristen Archambault. See PHOTOS below

J2A Families... please note your downpayment of $150 should be in. We have to make our down payment for the trip! You can mail it in to the office or drop it off in the "mail box" on the outside of the office door! Vancouver-bound 2017!

First Take
Summer Sundays after Pentecost: I imagine Jesus speaking this way (see Luke 12:49-56) near the time of his arrest in Jerusalem. In this passage Jesus talks about his own upcoming "baptism" (read "last days of his life") and how he has become completely dedicated to it's conclusion with the implication that it will be transforming for himself and possibly for others. He goes on to speak of how he is bringing a "fire" of division into play that will affect even those closest to one another. One way to understand this is to remember that folks in Jerusalem will be witnesses to his violent arrest, the arrest of an innocent man, a Jewish Rabbi, someone who has been popular for many. This action may be a deal-breaker for some, and yet may not bother others who have a need to "get along" with Rome. It touches directly on each person's "moral compass" and in so doing will also affect every relationship.
