         Our summer mission group to Guatemala is leaving on Sunday for a week! Please keep them in your prayers. They are Suzanne Powell, Charlotte Powell, Julia Powell, Christine Walley, Hannah Walley, Thomas Powell, Hannah Flath, Dayna Flath, Paloma Flath, Michael Fineran, Kelsey Aarrestad, Dee Dee Markes and Kristen Archambault.

        J2A Families... please note your downpayment of $150 is due by July 1st. You can mail it in to the office or drop it off in the "mail box" on the outside of the office door! Vancouver-bound 2017! There is a Passport Event at the Putnam Post Office on August 6th. HERE is a link to the flyer.

The Summer Program:

Wishing all families a safe and fun-filled summer vacation! Feel free to email us photos of your "flat-Jesus" on adventures and we can post them to our facebook account (even if they events were in July)!

Conversations continue over the summer regarding changing our approach to chapel time and lesson-based activities to make them more engaging for youth and volunteers alike! 

If you have any interest in helping out downstairs at any point this year, I'd be happy to discuss what's planned so far and when you might be available to join a "team" of helpers.  A "Fall Schedule of Curriculum and Activities" will soon be posted for your review on the Church School bulletin board, and later will be available online.  Also, watch for a link to complete your child(ren)'s Church School Registration forms online in August (another streamlining effort you can help us out with).  We will be calling past volunteers and Church School supporters beginning in August, unless you call first! Thank you...

First Take
Summer Sundays after Pentecost: 

"Readiness is all" could be a "take away" from our Lukan reading for this Sunday which includes that somewhat cryptic reference to the householder fore-knowing when the thief is coming so he/she will be sure the doors are locked and thus prevent the intrusion. Or with a little twist the take away could be about our alertness to God's presence right now. It's God's "good pleasure" to share the kingdom with us... a kingdom occurring over and over in our midst.

Coming Up

August Schedule includes: Dave has returned to duty this week. Camdyn Tiffany will be baptized on August 7th. We will try to go outside for the 9:15 service on August 14th and the 28th (possibly Labor Day weekend as well). Dave will be away with Nine6teen playing at the Craftfest and the church service at the Federated Church in Cotuit, Mass. on August 21st. Last 9:15-only service is on September 4th.

Flowers   Sign Up Master List is posted to the left of the office door. You can sign up there, call the office (860-315-7780), or Lora's cell phone (above) or respond to this email to Make a Memorial or a Thanksgiving for a loved one ($30/Sunday).  Flower donations are encouraged. There are always applications for flowers in the back of the church ($30).

Vestry Notes  Next Meeting is on Wednesday, September 14th at 7 p.m. (if important business comes up over the summer we may try to call a meeting in August, thanks)

Buildings and Grounds  Dave's office door was replaced in July. The contractor is just finishing working on the front steps! The Library hallway windows and Library windows are next for replacement. We're considering building a utility closet around the furnace in the church to prevent any soot issues in the future. We're looking over the church trim for repair and painting. The insurance adjuster is reconciling the final bill for the church cleaning and we will know more soon. 

Shawl Ministry Blessed shawls on the back table in church (fill out the log book). We have had a number of folks respond with thanks after receiving one of the shawls. Rebecca Patenaude, Coordinator

Outreach....  Next cooking for Community Kitchen at 8 a.m. on August 22nd here at CCPomfret to bring to the 1st Congregational Church of Woodstock (the Hill Church). Contact Pauline Phillips at Christ Church. CSO Committee meets periodically to recommend grants.
