Church School Notes

Thanks all for your support all year!

Again...a big THANK YOU to all the children and volunteers who participated in and helped out with Youth Sunday!  We had a good time singing and worshiping together. The "indoor picnic" was fun despite the rain, but we'll pray for a sunny event and return of the moonbounce next year... possibly for Welcome Home Sunday on September 11th.

Last call for this summer program:
Here is the flyer for Take Out Church, an opportunity to bring faith conversation and activities along with you on your summer travels.  I will provide a box with activity pages, prayers, apps for your devices, and the best part- "Flat Jesus" who can be mailed and/or pictured in social media posts! Activities are most appropriate for children in kindergarten through grade 5. I will accept "Take Out Orders" (one box per family- free!) through Father's Day,June 19th, and will have boxes "delivered" to church on June 26th (last 10:15 family service until September 11th).  Of course, you may "pick up" your box in the Church School area downstairs anytime after that as well!  Email me at ccchurchschoolpomfret@gmail.com to order yours today!

Wishing all families a safe and fun-filled summer vacation!
Nicole Nichols

Some of the "experiments" we are working on for next year:
1) Organize the year into terms and special events and post it
2) Continue a "one room school house" format with the Director, lessons available before-hand in the Reminder
3) "Hand's On" chapel time along with 2-3 running projects for our very "active" group of young people.
4) A "Team" approach: 6 Teams of 3 adults each with one "Captain" to provide support for 2-3 Sundays in a row (About 5-7 Sundays for the whole year). Or other approximate plan.
5) Simplify the Pageant for all concerned
6) Train at least one person to rotate into Godly Play

We'll be contacting parents and folks who've been involved for the past 2 years. Thanks!

First Take
5th Sunday after Pentecost: The full text of the Track 2 readings can be found at the Lectionary Website here
Included in this weeks readings is the story of Elijah on Mount Horeb. He has essentially gone there in fear for his life as Ahab's "secret police" are out to find him. He seems to be trying to put as much distance as possible between him and his pursuers. No one could possibly locate him. Yet the Angel/ Messenger of God does. And he is not going to stay "missing in action" for long. God is coming for a visit. There is a great wind and sound, an earthquake and fire. And after each there is no presence. But finally in the "sheer silence" of the mountain, the desert, the solitude, God speaks.... and sends him back!

Buildings and Grounds  Replacing the Library windows & the Library hallway windows, replacing the door on Dave's office which has "sprung open". We need to build a utility closet around the furnace in the church to prevent any soot issues in the future. The front steps of the office building need either repair or a more extensive replacement. We're looking over the church trim for repair and painting. The insurance adjuster is reconciling the final bill for the church cleaning and we will know more soon.
