This Sunday
Godly Play will be "wondering" together.  Grades 1-5 will be working on the next Feasting on the Word lesson. All ages will meet downstairs for our usual chapel gathering time.

Please remember to encourage your child to participate in our weekly offering of nonperishable goods.  A list of suggested items can be found on the table at the top of the stairs. Let's try to fill our basket in these last few weeks of Church School!

The Vestry Liaisons, Dave, Jane, Committee and Friends gathered on May 1st for a planning meeting for next year. We're thinking "smaller" can be better as it allows more in-depth time for nurturing and formation. But it does need to be "tuned". Here are some of the "experiments" we are going to be working on for the next academic year:

1) Organize the year into terms and special events and have it posted at least 2-3 months in advance
2) Continue a "one room school house" format with the Director providing most of the educational resource, the lessons will be available before-hand in the Reminder
3) Go to a "Team" approach. 8 Teams of 4 adults each with one "Captain" to provide support for 2-3 Sundays in a row (About 5 Sundays for the whole year) We already have a pool of up to 40 folks who help out in the Church School.
4) Simplify the Pageant (ideas forth-coming)
5) See if we can broaden the number of adults engaged in the program
6) Train at least one person interested in Godly Play to rotate with existing teachers

We'll be contacting parents and folks who've been involved for the past 2 years as contacts. Here is a link to our original one page overview that was used at the meeting. Thanks!

First Take
Easter 7: The full text of the readings can be found at the Lectionary Website here
Our story from Acts for this Sunday begins with Paul and Silas meeting an unnamed slave girl whose "gift" was to be possessed by a demon who could predict the future (she had a "spirit of divination"). At this meeting she cries out that Paul and Silas are themselves "slaves of the Most-High". It's an interesting juxtaposition. She is doubly a slave to the "demon" and to her masters. She has no name or identity except that which is allowed her by both of these "powers" over her life. Paul and Silas are also "slaves" (the "demon" is correct) but a engaged in a kind of servant-hood that liberates them to not only powerfully participate in God's healing life but from a modern perspective to become more fully themselves, to become more and not less human.

Here's a link to further reflections on the readings:

Next Meeting is on Wednesday, May 11th at 7:30 p.m.

Buildings and Grounds  Replacing the Library windows, replacing the door on Dave's office which has "sprung open". We need to build a utility closet around the furnace in the church to prevent any soot issues in the future. The front steps of the office building need either repair or a more extensive replacement. Rose Window has been checked and is looking good. We're looking over the church trim for repair and painting. The insurance adjuster is reconciling the final bill for the church cleaning and we will know more soon.

Shawl Ministry:
Blessed shawls on the back table in church (fill out the log book). We have had a number of folks respond with thanks after receiving one of the shawls. Rebecca Patenaude, Coordinator

Outreach....  Next cooking for Community Kitchen at 8 a.m. on May 23rd here at CCPomfret to bring to the 1st Congregational Church of Woodstock (the Hill Church). Contact Pauline Phillips at Christ Church. CSO Committee meets periodically to recommend grants.
