Easter Season 2016

This Sunday is a Church First/Contemporary Sunday. Hymns and Organ music at the 8 a.m. service, all our teens and kids are in church for a shorter contemporary communion service at the 10:15. The Adult Forum will be led by Jane and Dave: A Workshop in Anglicanism Or What is God up in the Church?

Relay for Life at the Woodstock Fair Grounds is organizing right now!  is a link to Ginger and Dayna's announcement below! Register this week if you want Ginger to order you the T-shirt. Dave has a special offer for J2A teens in terms of funding. Click here to go to the information down below.

A second group is organizing to go to Guatemala on August 6th with PIDClick here to go to the announcement below. Contact person: Dr. Suzanne Powell

Rummage Sale items can start coming in and be placed downstairs in the second teen room. Smaller items under the table in the Choir Room or upstairs in the Attic! If your larger items need to be picked up speak with Catherine Bastow! The Sale coincides with the Pomfret-wide sale on May 7th.

Innovation comes to our Church! That's right, the Episcopal Church of CT is re-engineering, re-imagining, re-creating itself in a bold, new fundamental way! The driving issue is WHERE IS GOD AT WORK IN OUR WORLD? The Church is reorganizing to encourage you and me, its parish members, to participate more fully in the needs and ministries of our area. By building new connections among parishes, we can better leverage our efforts and impact in the ways we are called towards God's mission of reconciliation and restoration. HOW THIS WILL ACTUALLY WORK IS UP TO US. A  Convocation to explore our reorganizing with a focus on ministry will be held Friday evening and Saturday, April 22 and 23, in Ashford. ALL OF US ARE INVITED TO ATTEND. (Dave is going, I am going, car-pooling) This is our chance to be represented in formative discussions! More information can be found at this link. Thanks, Lindsay Paul

First Take
Easter 4: The full text of the readings can be found at the Lectionary Website here
Our Gospel is a reminder that Jesus doesn't really let us get too far away. Just like those proverbial sheep we like to wander but that is never the end of the story. God knows us by name and calls us by name. This is not just the way our mother or father called us, or even our children or grandchildren. As wonderful as that "calling" was or continues this "call" includes that and more. God calls us by name as the one who called us into being, a la Psalm 139, when God knew us when we were still in the womb! This is a wondrous "call"!

Vestry Notes
Next Meeting is on Wednesday, May 11th at 7:30 p.m.

Buildings and Grounds  Other items still needed include replacing the Library windows, replacing the door on Dave's office which has "sprung open". We need to build a utility closet around the furnace in the church to prevent any soot issues in the future. The front steps of the office building need either repair or a more extensive replacement. Other larger items looming are a possible bigger repair to our organ not related to the soot which includes foot pedals and stops. We've also detected a weakness in the upper Rose Window during the cleaning that needs attention asap. We're looking over the church trim for repair and painting.

Shawl Ministry:
Blessed shawls on the back table in church (fill out the log book). We have had a number of folks respond with thanks after receiving one of the shawls. Rebecca Patenaude, Coordinator

Outreach....  Next cooking for Community Kitchen at 8 a.m. on April 25th here at CCPomfret to bring to the 1st Congregational Church of Woodstock (the Hill Church). Contact Pauline Phillips at Christ Church. CSO Committee meets periodically to recommend grants.
