Maundy Thursday Reminder
An Online Ezine
Lent 2016

An important Word from all of our Bishops: Can we ensure the safety of some while rejecting the hopes of others?

Please take a look at our events and observances for the second half of this week down below, beginning with the gathering of the "church family" tonight.

Easter Lilly Memorials were not done this year because of space considerations in the Great Hall. Be sure to write-in your loved one on the Intercession Sheet on the music stand at the back of the Hall.

Moving Chairs: help needed....at the close of the Eggstravaganza on Saturday (around 11:30 a.m.) we'll need help to set up all the chairs again for Easter Sunday which will include bringing up another 20 or so from downstairs (We're going to need 180 seats). It should work!

Updates on the interior of the church: Scaffolding is complete. Cleaning started. Photos:

After this Sunday
If you have thought about helping out with fun activities for grade-schoolers downstairs, here is your chance! We will be trying out our new lectionary-based curriculum, "Feasting on the Word".  All of the message/lesson content will be given during the chapel time, and materials for related activities will be prepared in advance by the director for you!  All you need to do is bring your own sense of curiosity and fun and arrive a little early (9:45am) to help make the sessions 'go'.  Check your calendar and please let me know if you have a Sunday or two to be present to help out. No prior teaching experience is required, just a willingness to share time with the children in an authentic way, knowing that you will learn as much from them as they will from you! ("Shepherds" are still very welcomed and needed on Sundays as we adjust to the new approach.)

Thanks to all those who have volunteered to help out with the Eggstravaganza this Saturday as well as to those who are considering training for Godly Play!

Here is your personal invitation to the Eggstravaganza always at 10 a.m. on Holy Saturday (and includes a telling of the Easter Story using Beulah Land felt figures)

Here is how you can help out with the Eggstravaganza. All we need to make it another fun event.

Here is a  copy of the Church School Schedule coming up!

First Take
Easter Sunday: The full text of the readings can be found at the Lectionary Website here
John's account of Jesus' encounter with Mary in the garden on the dawn of the third day is one of more powerful resurrection stories. It has a different kind of feel to it like a story you'd be telling a friend not writing in a book where you might clean it all up and make it more definitive. Perhaps that makes it feel more factual.
In this longer narrative of Jesus' return Mary lingers in the tomb area in grief and bewilderment and when Jesus approaches her she does not know him. She mistakes him for someone else, the gardener, and accuses him of making off with the body. It takes Jesus' direct address to pull her back to herself and he to her. She finally "sees" him. How often we fail to recognize folks we know well when we see them in a different context where they are not expected. And probably, for more profound reasons, one of the recurring features of this and other resurrection appearances is that they are such surprises!
