Lent 2016

From Last Sunday: Here is the contact information for the private World War II museum, 508-651-1944 or email, director@museumofworldwarii.org.

Wonderful News for Jane Hale: She was admitted as a Candidate for Holy Orders as of last night! This is the next very important step and paves the way for ordination to the transitional diaconate (3 months or less?)!

An important Word from all of our Bishops (national): Can we ensure the safety of some while rejecting the hopes of others?

Updates: Scaffolding in moving into the church today, tomorrow and Monday so the cleaning can begin.

Passion Sunday Procession: At the 10:15 service this Sunday we will assemble in the Great Hall, and then those who can, will process out (cross, readers, choir, clergy, parishioners) down the road (on this side of the street), cross over to the "pomfret corner" and there bless the palms. Then we will cross back again and return, to begin the service and church school/teen programs. It is a Christian Witness. If Jesus can walk the Via Dolorosa perhaps many of us can too, in a symbolic way!

P.S. This is all "weather dependent"!

Church School Notes

This Sunday
We will be wrapping up our Moses Chronicles workshops (gr. 1-5) and Faces of Easter (Godly Play) following the Palm Procession which will begin in the Great Hall this year, go outside (keep your jackets on!) and down to the "pomfret green" for the Blessing of the Palms, and back to the church!

Henri Bessette will be shining shoes to raise money for Heifer International during coffee hour.  Bring your "Sunday Best" in preparation for Easter, but know that he can even clean your athletic shoes!

If you have thought about helping out with fun activities for grade-schoolers downstairs, here is your chance!  After Easter Sunday, we will be trying out our new lectionary-based curriculum, "Feasting on the Word".  All of the message/lesson content will be given during the chapel time, and materials for related activities will be prepared in advance by the director for you!  All you need to do is bring your own sense of curiosity and fun and arrive a little early (9:45am) to help make the sessions 'go'.  Check your calendar and please let me know if you have a Sunday or two to be present to help out. No prior teaching experience is required, just a willingness to share time with the children in an authentic way, knowing that you will learn as much from them as they will from you! ("Shepherds" are still very welcomed and needed on Sundays as we adjust to the new approach.)

We are looking for helpers with the Easter Eggstravaganza, and could use your help!  Please sign up with Nicole if you are able to be present on the day to help out in some way, or could drop off baked goods (large plain sugar cookies for decorating or decorated cupcakes).

You will find a poster and signup sheet for this event on the Church School bulletin board, or you can see me or Amy Landis if you can help out in some way or would like more information.  We hope to see many of our youth at this event, including teens (who are always welcomed to participate and help out!)

Here is your personal invitation to the Eggstravaganza always at 10 a.m. on Holy Saturday (and includes a telling of the Easter Story using Beulah Land felt figures)

Here is how you can help out with the Eggstravaganza. All we need to make it another fun event.

Here is a  copy of the Church School Schedule coming up!

First Take
Passion Sunday: The full text of the readings can be found at the Lectionary Website here
The whole progress of the services this Sunday leads us to walk with Jesus as he goes from welcome and high expectations to ignominious torture and execution. It's a journey that many have taken in the past, a journey that many take today. It parallels the Via Dolorosa, an actual walk through Jerusalem that pilgrims still can do. It has some uncomfortable parallels to the way we've treated many of our temporal leaders. Can you think of some?

Here's a link to reflections on the readings:
