Thursday Reminder
An Online Ezine
Lent 2016

Both 8 a.m. and 10:15 services will be in the Great Hall on Sunday. We need several folks to help us bring in more chairs and set up there on Saturday morning, March 5, starting at 8 a.m. (Men's Group and others) All programs continue. Choir will sing. No procession. BRING YOUR PHONE or TABLET so you can download the hymns as PDFs. We will have some hymnals.

Hymns in order:
Communion 470  (Levas 177 is in Announcements)

Further Explanation: We've had more than one back-fire of our furnace. Each filled the basement with soot that then was forced up into the sanctuary by our under-floor heating fan. It has covered the inside walls to greater and lesser degrees all the way up to the ceiling. We probably did not notice it as it might have happened in stages.
We're working with contractors. We know what happened (bricks came loose in the chimney and partially blocked it). The insurance adjuster has been here to help us start a claim that will involve careful cleaning of the windows, the walls, the wood, the plaques, the organ. We will have to move to the Great Hall for services for possibly as long as a month or longer. Thanks for your patience.
Pray for good advice and guidance. It's a good reminder that the "church" is not the building. It's all of you. It also gives us a chance to experience a somewhat different worship style!

 -Dave

Church School Notes

Thank you to all who participated in our Scout Sunday and Church First. We had some great readers assisting in the service!

There are several types of Lenten calendars available for families at the top of the stairs, along with a handout of suggested ways these can be used for children's prayers and reflection during Lent.  Please help yourself!

This Sunday
, preschool and kindergarten students in Godly Play will wonder about 'The Mystery of Easter", while grades 1-5 continue their "Moses Chronicles" workshops (Story of the Ten Plagues and Movie about Moses).  The children have been adding Lenten tears (prayers) to our altar each Sunday, and hopefully parents have taken a look at some of the activities available at the top of the stairs to bring some Lenten reflection practices home... If not- there's still time!

It will soon be time for our annual Easter Eggstravaganza taking place Saturday March 26, from 10am to 12 noon.  This is always a fun and exciting event!  Help is needed from bakers and crafty folks, as well as set-up and clean-up crew.

You will find a poster and signup sheet for this event on the Church School bulletin board, or you can see me or Amy Landis if you can help out in some way or would like more information.  We hope to see many of our youth at this event, including teens (who are always welcomed to participate and help out!)

Here is your personal invitation to the Eggstravaganza always at 10 a.m. on Holy Saturday (and includes a telling of the Easter Story using Beulah Land felt figures)

Here is how you can help out with the Eggstravaganza. All we need to make it another fun event.

Here is a  copy of the Church School Schedule coming up!

First Take
Lent 4: The full text of the readings can be found at the Lectionary Website here
The Lukan passage for this Sunday is a favorite, the Parable of the Prodigal Son. There are a number of rich details that describe a young man of privilege and wealth venturing out not quite "on his own" as he takes his inheritance upfront in cash, to have a good time. At the periphery of the story is the Father, who seems extraordinarily indulgent, or is he extraordinarily loving? His brother comes in at the end. The brother has done everything correct, worked and even "slaved" as he says for his dad. All justice seems to be on his side. Should the Prodigal go back to his pig-farming? Or not?

Here's a link to reflections on the readings:
