Church School Notes

Thank you to our guest presenter Philippa Paquette for a very interesting and lively chat last week with a small group of youth who braved frigid temperatures.  We appreciate you taking the time to be with us!

This week is Scout Sunday, when all Girl and Boy Scouts (past and present) are asked to wear their uniforms and be honored guests during the Church First service.  ALL youngsters will be in church for10:15 (only nursery meets as usual).  Scouts and leaders will be seated up front.  Some will be acolyting and others doing the readings, psalm and prayers of the people. (It would be very helpful if a Shepherd or two could assist with gathering youngsters as they arrive and helping out with activities downstairs after the service.)

After church (during the adult presentation in the Great Hall), Godly Play will meet for the story of "The Sower", and older children are invited to create Lenten "tears" prayers for our alter and add to a painted hand-print cross for our bulletin board.  There are several types of Lenten calendars available for families at the top of the stairs, along with a handout of suggested ways these can be used for children's prayers and reflection during Lent.  Please help yourself!

Next week we will begin the "Moses Chronicles" workshop rotation for grades 1-5 with Drama and a Movie.  There will also be a meeting of the Church School Committee after church (Feb. 28) to plan for the Eggstravaganza and look at the new Easter curriculum from Feasting on the Word.
We'd love for you to join us!

Here is your invitation to the Eggstravaganza always 10 a.m. on Holy Saturday (and includes a telling of the Easter Story using Beulah Land felt figures)

Here is how you can help out with the Eggstravaganza. All we need to make it another fun event.

Here is a  copy of the Church School Schedule coming up!

Please confirm that you have received this message so I know I have your current contact information correct. It would be great if anyone would like to help out with the two vacancies for volunteer leaders...  I am around to answer questions (860-928-2155) or pass along materials if anyone would like!  Hopefully we won't have any 'snow days' :)
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Nicole

First Take
Lent 2: The full text of the readings can be found at the Lectionary Website here
The tradition often depicts Jesus standing within sight of Jerusalem, on the Mount of Olives or some other vantage point, so that when he says these words in our passage from Luke he is looking at the city spread before him. They express a deep, very human, concern and a kind of regret, "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!" Jerusalem refuses to come close, refuses to be nurtured. There is failure here. Is there anything else Jesus could be doing, could have done, to make a difference? I think sometimes we have our own expectations about God and what God "should have" done in our own lives that would have made a difference and when God has not/does not make that thing happen it seems that God has failed us.

Here's a link to reflections on the readings:
