Church School Notes

All Saints/November 1st: Jane Hale will be visiting Church School this Sunday to help us kick off our "Everyday Saints" activities for November.  Godly Play will wonder about "The Communion of Saints", and we will learn some "Saintly" songs at chapel time.  Grades 1-5 will meet collectively for a shared activity, guided by their Church School Shepherds.  Next week, Fr. Dave will visit for music and exploration of the Churchyard Burial Grounds and a little history.

We still need some helpers to lead activities for Grades 1-5 (especially needed on November 15 and 22).  Anyone want to bake Soul Cakes?  Make Family Heritage Shields? Create a Cloud of Witnesses banner? Or a Sidewalk Chalk Memorial?  If you are interested in learning more about these or other fun possibilities should contact Nicole ASAP.  These activities will be easy to do (no teaching experience needed), and plenty of support will be provided to you!

Reminders:  Please sign your child in each Sunday so that we know who is in attendance each week.  A sheet for each grade level is located on the credenza at the top the stairs by our bulletin board.  Registration forms are rolling in... Please keep them coming!  Even if you do not attend church regularly it is very important that we have all names on our roster for the year. Having your current information aids us in programming and creating up-to-date classroom lists and sign-in sheets. We collect food, toiletries, and household products for the local food pantries each Sunday.  Please include your child in choosing an item for our offering basket. Thank you!

NOTE: Church School Meeting Nov. 8th.  All parents, volunteers, and folks with a heart for youth are encouraged to attend.  We will look at family Advent activity plans, Pageant preparations, Heifer "Read to Feed" outreach found here, future curriculum ideas, and more!

A link to the Church School Registration form.

We collect non-perishable foods and household items in our offering basket during chapel time each Sunday, so please work with your child to remember the needs of others each Sunday by bringing in something for our local food banks.

YACers:  This is a friendly reminder that the YAC group will be meeting at church at 10 o'clock on Sunday. Please wear work clothes, because we plan to travel to a private residence to help out with fall cleanup. If you have work gloves and a rake, please bring them with you. We will be returning to church at noon. Hope to see you there! Contact Jen Ritzau for more info:
(Leaders also include Peter Mann and Donna Bessette, advising)

Teen Coordinator Position
As some already know Dee Dee and the Markes family are heading back to California, their home. She will be winding up her duties as Teen Coordinator sometime this fall and would like to hand on the duty and salary ($6000 a year) to another candidate.
Here is a current description of the position. Let Steve Adams, Peter Lusa or Dave know if you would like to discuss it. We have heard from one very promising candidate. Thanks!

Current Teen Leaders Materials: HERE is a link to find PDF copies of all the different group materials. Note that the main item for each group is the manual of lesson plans. Use as you see fit!

Safe Church Training is required for all Teen Leaders that have not had it. But here is a link to the Diocesan Schedule:

The Teen Program Registration Form is needed for each student so we can provide a consistent and safe environment for your young person. Thanks.

First Take
All Saints Sunday: The full text of the readings can be found at the Lectionary Website here
In Britain, during World War II, Dorothy L. Sayers (the Lord Peter Wimsey detective series) wrote a radio play called, "The Man Born to be King" that included major scenes from the life of Christ. It was enormously well received at a time of deep distress in a nation living under the threat of invasion and, in a sense, living under the shadow of death. The "Raising of Lazarus" is simply portrayed but is a profound statement of resurrection.

Here Lazarus is struggling to emerge from the tomb still enshrouded with the winding sheet:

Mary: Oh, Martha come and help me.... Lazarus-- dear brother-- speak if you can!
Lazarus: Lord Jesus!
Mary: You are smiling-- you are laughing-- you are alive!
Lazarus: (joyfully) Yes, I am alive!
Martha: Where have you been?
Lazarus: With life.
Mary: Do you know who called you back?
Lazarus: Life. He is here and he has never left me.
Jesus: Loose him and lead him home.

Something Different:
One of our parishioners, Dr. Timothy Monahan, was recently interviewed for Day Kimball Hospital. Here is a link to read his answers to the "13 Questions"!

St. Nicholas Fair, December 5th, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Fair has the potential to bring our entire community together for fellowship and service in honor of one of the lesser known but important saints of the calendar. You can check out St. Nicholas of Myra here (who often visits the Fair, by the way). All the funds taken in on the day become part of our CSO Funds for the current year (we post-fund our outreach every year!). You can help in any number of ways! Donating goods, services, participating in the baking, bringing in your gently used toys and new gifts that you never used. If you know of even a single vendor who might donate an item to the Fair here is a donation letter pre-signed that you can use for this purpose. A one page intro to the Fair with needs outlined can be found here.
