Church School Notes

Welcome Home Sunday, September 13th, Breakfast at 9 a.m. followed by the return of the 10:15 service!

Thanks to the volunteers who have offered to help out this fall.  We had a great meeting last Sunday, and volunteer information has been sent via email to all.  (Let me know if you would like a copy of the classroom schedule, though it's still undergoing some last-minute revisions!)  Here is a copy of the fall Workshop Schedule, Sunday by Sunday. The next CS Committee meeting will be September 27th after church.
We are looking good for a few more volunteers and would love to see some new folks come aboard for Potter's workshops and Godly Play.  Newer families in church are welcomed to "jump in" by just coming down and observing a classroom (not necessarily your own child's!) to get a sense of what we do and to experience how rewarding children's ministry really is at our church!
I hope to see many of you on September 13th at the Welcome Back Breakfast!  I will be at the top of the stairs next to our bulletin board with new Registration forms to be completed, and will be happy to greet the children and answer questions.

Welcome back to your Church School!!!

On October 4th, there will be a special program with Chris George, Executive Director of IRIS (Integrated Refugee and Immigration Services).  We would like to help the people this organization serves by collecting new or gently used linens (towels & bedding) and personal care items (toothbrushes, hair combs & brushes, etc).  These are items people need right away when they go to temporary housing, and usually do not have.  Please leave your donations in the box near the Church School bulletin board.  Thank you for your support! Donations list can be found here

Teen Program Updates:

The Bi-annual Teen Program Celebration Dinner on Saturday, September 19th (this is also the Candle-Lighting Ceremony and first Overnight/Lock-in for the new J2Aers and their families). This event is a Celebration of our Teen Program in it's entirety so all Teens and their families are invited! Pasta/ both regular and gluten-free. Please bring a veg or dessert to share! It's a cool event and we only do it every other year. Here is the invitation!

Rite-13 is the "first" of the 3 Teen Program groups and includes young people moving out of the Church School into their "teen" years: 6 and 7th grades! The leaders for this group are Kim Bergandahl and Greg Nichols (Christine Carter will be advising this group in the fall). The Rite-13ers are helping cook the meal for the Teen Program Celebration on September 19th and then again helping to serve at the CSO dinner on September 26th! We hit the ground running! We're looking forward to it.

J2Aers:.... Pool Party at the Hales for all new J2Aers on September 6th at 11:30 a.m.
We're looking forward to the new J2A group (coming up from Rite-13). The opening dinner for the TEEN PROGRAM and the Candle Ceremony for the new J2Aers and their families is Saturday, September 19th. The new J2A Leaders include Amy Nunes, Ginger Lusa & Adam Squires who are the point persons for this leadership team (there are three other more part-time leaders: Brian Smith, Steve Adams & Cyndi Sturni)

YACers:  YACers traditionally help do a scavenger hunt for the new J2Aers... are you up for it? We're also trying to find the clues used in the past to save time. Contact Jen Ritzau asap if you wish to help & if you have more info:
The Leaders starting to work on program looking ahead to collaborating with the returning Pilgrims. Jen Ritzau is a point person with support from Peter Mann and Donna Bessette, advising). Note.... the YAC group this fall is essentially identical to the returning Pilgrims who will be meeting with their outgoing leaders to plan a Pilgrimage Report for presentation on a weekend evening OR a Church First Sunday.

TeenLeaders
Teen Program 2-year cycle is on: Our program leadership is looking good right now but if you have a "care for Teens" we could certainly find a place for you to participate!

Current Teen Leaders: HERE is a link to find PDF copies of all the different group materials. Note that the main item for each group is the manual of lesson plans that your team of leaders can use as they work for you!

Safe Church Training is required for all Teen Leaders that have not had it (Training at Christ Church on Saturday, Oct. 3rd is definitely ON! But here is a link to the Diocesan Schedule for other options:

First Take
Sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost and the preacher at the 8 and 10:15 services is Jane Hale. She also comments below:

Our Scripture readings for this week include Proverbs 1:20-33, Psalm 19:7-14, James 3:1-12, and Mark 8:27-38.  Combined, they ask the age-old questions: "Who is God?"  And "What does it mean to serve God?"  Some of the responses are nothing short of shocking!  Who do you say God is?  How might we, as individuals and as a community, be called to participate in what God is doing in the world?

The full text of the readings can be found at the Lectionary Website here

Lay Eucharistic Visitors Updates
We've already launched this program on a very limited basis with Greg Nichols and Steve Adams being the first trained and who have the required Safe Church training. The other four interested folks are Dayna Flath, Bruce Phillips, Woody Danenhower and Peter Mann. Safe Church Training is definitely scheduled here for Oct. 3rd, 9 a.m. to about 4 p.m. Other opportunities can be found at the Diocesan website..... see link above.

Thank you for your generosity!

It's almost that time again to begin thinking about next year's budget, next year's program & ministry. The Budget Committee will be meeting in early October. The Vestry and Stewardship Committee have been thinking about how we want to do a little more to explore being good stewards, and more, how we can "grow" our program offerings and interests to benefit our community.

Stewardship: Visions and Ventures
Your pledge remains the most important source of income for us to continue our ministries, by far. Thanks!
