TeenLeaders
Teen Program starting in September: We are looking for folks who have a special sense of engagement with teens and are willing to do a lot of listening..... Kim Bergandahl has volunteered as one leader for Rite-13 (grades 6-7).
And we are currently talking to another potential. But we need a few more. Christine Carter will continue as a "point person" to participate in the work and prep new leaders. The upcoming Rite-13ers may very well need more support to become active.

First Take
Fifth Sunday after Pentecost, homilies at 8 and 10:15 services.

The readings will be from "Track 2", Wisdom 1:13-15; 2:23-24 (a reflection on the goodness of creation as understood in the pre-Christian era), a selection from Psalm 30, 2 Corinthians 8:7-15 (in which Paul asks the church in Corinth to share out of their abundance in same way that Jesus shared from his, becoming poor so others might be "rich" in a special way) and the Gospel is Mark 5:21-43 (the story of two healings, one inadvertant, one intended!)
The full text of the readings can be found  at the Lectionary Website here

How can Jesus be caught "unawares" in this Markan passage? It's easy to miss but we can catch many glimpses of Jesus' humanity embedded in a world we know. The Gospel writers tend to celebrate the wonder-fillled side of the story, the healings, the fore-tellings, the calming of the storm (last week), the well-laid plan. Yet here and many places chance and choice play a role that engage us, reminding us of the unpredictability and complexity of our lives that are also wonder-filled but in another, subtler way.

Special Mission Outreach
PID trip to Guatemala leaving in early January. It costs about $1300 (includes airfare). We're thinking of $600 a person church subsidy. Can you do $700? This is a medical and building project mission trip. Here is the website! Here is a PDF about the base price before airfare and some general instructions. You will need inoculations for Guatemala.

Spirituality Experiments.... with Oscar Brockmeyer.
Group Spiritual Guidance for those within and beyond the church. Here is an overview. His updated schedule for June can be found here 860-942 2934 orobbrockmeyer@snet.net for more information.

Vine and Branches "Directory" Project
The fifth-sixth grade (Christine & Philippa) has started a vine and branches art-piece with the support of Judy Busse and Cyndi Sturni (our artists). It's right in the hallway on the way to the church. We'll put up household photos all along the painted vine. Jim Goodwin will be informally taking photos but feel free to send in a Selfie with your family to this email address! Here's the progress:

Flowers
Sign Up Master List is posted to the left of the office door. You can sign up there, call the office (928-7026) or respond to this email to Make a Memorial or a Thanksgiving for a loved one ($30/Sunday). We are in the season after Pentecost: Flower donations are encouraged. There are always applications for flowers in the back of the church ($30).

Vestry Notes
Dave's vacation starts on July 1st. No July Vestry meeting. Next Vestry meeting: August 19th!

Buildings and Grounds
Our current plan is to repair the floor in the kitchen around the dishwasher over the summer as a volunteer & professional initiative (Rich DiBonaventura). We have some roofing work to do where there was winter damage on the church roof outside the Sacristy (the Roofing Store). We have received some quotes for work on the organ which we are currently sorting through; Dennis Patton is helping assess this with the Foley Baker company. Some rotted window sills in the office building may require extensive work. We're also developing a new plexi-glass church foyer with John Murphy.

Shawl Ministry:
Blessed shawls on the back table in church (fill out the log book). We have had a number of folks respond with thanks after receiving one of the shawls. Rebecca Patenaude, Coordinator

Outreach....  Next cooking for Community Kitchen on July 27th at the 1st Congregational Church of Woodstock (the Hill Church). Contact Pauline Phillips at Christ Church. CSO Committee meets periodically to recommend grants.
