An Online Ezine
Pentecost 2015

Greetings from your church!
Our main phone is down, possibly until the middle of June (part of the issue of switching to Charter). Use the Rectory: 860-928-7025 OR Dave's Cell: 860-608-7632. OR Email. Sorry about this!

Since we have increasing use of the internet for all church business please use better Email protocol. For instance, try NOT to use old emails as responses or to initiate changes or conversations as the old "subject" remains on the email and can be overlooked! Never put personal data or photos in group or personal emails. Every email has the potential to be public! Scrutinize every email to see whether it really is sent by a friend or a business you know AND never click on attachments unless you're sure!

Rev. Dave is due to be on Jury Duty beginning on June 8th. This could affect his availability (but unlikely).

Teen Leadership: We are making great progress. Thanks so much to Adam Squire, Amy Nunes, Cyndi Sturni, Ginger Lusa, Brian Smith and Steve Adams for becoming J2A Leaders; and to Jen Ritzau, Pete Mann & Donna Bessette for being YAC leaders for the next rotation (the YAC program will have an emphasis on service). We are still hoping to find a couple perhaps Or a "couple" of couples to work with Rite-13. Christine Carter is willing to keep working with this group. This LINK will allow you to explore further.

In the Church School:

This Sunday, June 7th, all Church School children will meet with their leaders in church for Youth Sunday! If you could manage to arrive by 9:45am, it would be very helpful.  Students who were with us last week wrote Prayers of the People and were assigned Lectionary Readings to do.  It is not too late to get involved in the service, and we can give you something to read when you arrive!  All Church School leaders and children will process into church behind the Choir singing "Siyahamba" (We are Marching...") We will then sit together in the front pews for the duration of the service, going up front to sing the Anthem "If I were a Butterfly".  All will partake of a parish picnic and moon bounce after the service!  The weather promises to cooperate, and it will be a great way to celebrate our great year in Church School.  Can't wait to see you there!!!

Christ Church School Co-directors, Amy Landis & Nicole Nichols

Teen Program Notes:

Rite-13ers: Were awesome this past Sunday. We may have found a new "tradition". The message was spot on. Thanks to the Rite-13ers and their Leaders: Dee Dee Markes, Kelly Madenjian, Steve Adams and Suzanne Ranhoff!

J2Aers: On to San Francisco! Dedication Sunday is August 2nd. At that 9:15 service we expect all our Pilgrims and leaders to be present. Jane Hale will be our preacher.

There are still a few families that need to complete their payments for the Pilgrimage. Please be in touch with Dee Dee asap. thanks

YACers: Active Graduating Seniors: Thanks for the applications we've received for Von Conta-Koerner Scholarships. If you have not emailed us yet for a CREDO date, now is the time, June is already getting crowded!

Application can be found here

TeenLeaders
Teen Program starting in September: Thanks to those who have already agreed to be Teen Leaders (you are an answer to prayer, as all our leaders every year are.. this is a special ministry). We are looking for folks who have a special sense of engagement with teens and are willing to do a lot of listening..... for Rite-13 (grades 6-7). Christine Carter will continue as a "point person" to participate in the work and prep new leaders. The upcoming Rite-13ers may very well need more support to become active.

First Take
Second Sunday after Pentecost, homilies at 8 and 10:15 services.

The readings are from Genesis 1 (part of the creation story for Youth Sunday), Psalm 138, 2 Corinthians 4:13-5:1 (Paul speaks of his confidence in God's invisible, transforming Presence in our lives) and our Gospel is Mark 3:20-35 (Jesus' family tries to intervene in his ministry which makes him wonder "who are my family?"; those who discern God's will and work)
The full text of the readings can be found  at the Lectionary Website Here

Your family of origin, your "blood ties", were a particularly tenacious and often corrupting influence in Jesus' time. There was the royal family, the priestly family, the "family" of Judaism. Here he makes it clear that all are potentially his family. All have access to God, and God to them. There are no "special" connections. All are uniquely valued. A good theme for this Sunday when we celebrate the Christ Church "family" with our young people. Dave

Adult Forum Experiments!
Do we want more conversation on the readings, or on current national or international issues and how they relate to who were are as Christians, or local issues? Speak to Dave or return email.

Special Mission Outreach
PID trip to Guatemala leaving on January 2nd or 3rd of 2016. 5 folks already signed up. It costs about $1300 (includes airfare from Boston, etc.). We're thinking of $600 a person church subsidy from the Special Mission. Can you do $700? This is a medical and building project mission trip. Here is the website! Here is a PDF about the base price before airfare and some general instructions. You will need inoculations for Guatemala. Our trip is not yet posted on the Partners in Development website.

Spirituality Experiments.... with Oscar Brockmeyer.
Group Spiritual Guidance for those within and beyond the church. Here is an overview. His updated schedule for June can be found here 860-942 2934 orobbrockmeyer@snet.net for more information.

Vine and Branches "Directory" Project
The fifth grade has started a vine and branches art-piece with the support of Judy Busse and Cyndi Sturni (our artists). It's right in the hallway on the way to the church. We'll put up household photos all along the painted vine. Here's the original mock-up:

Your Stewardship!

How your gifts are "invested"!
It costs about $28,000 a year for the administration of the church which includes the salary of our secretary, Lora as well as internet, phone, xerox, supplies and bookkeeping services.
Thank you for your generosity!

Stewardship: Visions and Ventures
Your pledge remains the most important source of income for us to continue our ministries, by far. Thanks!

Flowers
Sign Up Master List is posted to the left of the office door. You can sign up there, call the office (928-7026) or respond to this email to Make a Memorial or a Thanksgiving for a loved one ($30/Sunday). We are in the season after Pentecost: Flower donations are encouraged. There are always applications for flowers in the back of the church ($30).

Vestry Notes
Next Vestry meeting is June 10th. We will review our mid-year budget, repair items that need to be addressed, plans for the summer. Dave's vacation starts on July 1st. No July Vestry meeting. August meeting will be chaired by available wardens as Dave will be on the J2A Pilgrimage.

Buildings and Grounds
Our current plan is to repair the floor in the kitchen around the dishwasher over the summer as a volunteer initiative (Rich DiBonaventura). We have some roofing work to do where there was winter damage on the church roof outside the Sacristy (the Roofing Store). The Roofing Store is also checking re-newed leaking in one of the Rectory chimneys. We have received some quotes for work on the organ which we are currently sorting through; Dennis Patton is helping assess this with the Foley Baker company. We're switching over to Charter for internet and phone but this is taking a while.

Shawl Ministry:
Blessed shawls on the back table in church (fill out the log book). We have had a number of folks respond with thanks after receiving one of the shawls. Rebecca Patenaude, Coordinator

Sunday Gifts for Access.. Suggested Sunday morning donations: canned vegetables, canned protein (chicken, tuna, ham, beans and etc.), pasta, deodorant and 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner. List? Click Here
