We are working to find a new group of adults who have interest in being part of our next 2 year cycle of Teen Leaders. This LINK will allow you to explore further. We have an important meeting of prospective leaders and the Teen Committee this Sunday at 11:30 in the Library.

In the Church School:


 

We enjoyed a beautiful day at Heifer's Overlook Farm
last Sunday, and enjoyed our hands-on learning activities; carding and spinning wool, milking a goat, and collecting and studying fresh eggs.  Thank you to all the families who participated, and especially the trip drivers/chaperones.  Keep an eye out for fieldtrip pictures on our bulletin board, as well as our donation acknowledgement:  Collectively, we raised $2,513.00 for Heifer, to be matched dollar-for-dollar!

 

On Sunday May 31st, all Church School children will meet with their leaders downstairs to work on Youth Sunday preparations. We will use chapel time to prepare music for the June 7th service, and readings and prayers will be assigned and practiced.  We would love to see as many of our members involved in Youth Sunday as possible...  It has been a great year!

Teen Program Notes:



Rite-13ers: This Sunday, May 31st, the Rite 13 will run the service at church, so please have your children come as often as they can between now and then. (This is also the final Contemporary Service for the season)

 

J2Aers: On to San Francisco! Dedication Sunday is August 2nd. At that 9:15 service we expect all our Pilgrims and leaders to be present. Jane Hale will be our preacher.


 

YACers: Active Graduating Seniors: Thanks for the applications we've received for Von Conta-Koerner Scholarships. We'll be in touch shortly. The deadline is already gone by. 

Remember that applying for a scholarship includes a commitment to address the church by giving a Credo Statement on a Sunday in June.

TeenLeaders
Teen Program starting in September: This Sunday, May 31st we have a special meeting in the Library at 11:30 for those who have already agreed to be Teen Leaders and those who are simply interested. Again we are looking for folks who have a special sense of engagement with teens and are willing to do a lot of listening! The curriculum for Rite-13 (grades 6-7) and J2A (grades 8-9) is comprehensive and interesting. We are re-viewing our YAC program for those who have finished the Pilgrimage (grades 10-12) and are thinking about steering it more towards outreach projects.

First Take
Trinity Sunday, homilies at 8 and 10:15 services.

The readings are Isaiah 6:1-8 (the "call" of Isaiah as a prophet), Psalm 29, Romans 8:12-17 (the Spirit of God within us cries out "abba", "daddy" to god) and our Gospel is from John 3:1-17 (Nicodemus comes to Jesus for a secret conversation)

Our readings taken together can be seen as a "quick take" on the three persons of the Trinity. But they can also remind us that our God is a God of relationship. And not just any relationship but a profound, intimate one. Some theologians would venture to go further and say that if God is relational in God's nature then that is a reflection of the nature of all that is... deeply inter-related. To know reality is to grow closer to the Divine. Dave

Special Mission Outreach
Mitzi Davis has reserved 10 spots in a PID trip to Guatemala leaving on January 2nd or 3rd of 2016. 5 folks already signed up. It costs about $1300 (includes airfare from Boston, accommodations, food, etc.). We're thinking of $600 a person subsidy from the church from the Special Mission. Can you do $700? This is a medical and building project mission trip. Here is the website! Here is a PDF about the base price before airfare and some general instructions. You will need inoculations for Guatemala as well. Our trip is not yet posted. 

Spirituality Experiments.... with Oscar Brockmeyer.
Group Spiritual Guidance for those within and beyond the church. Here is an overview. We have a first Saturday Group at 10 a.m. and a Tuesday evening group on the last Tuesday in June at 7 p.m.. The Workshops will resume in the fall.

Vine and Branches "Directory" Project
The fifth grade is planning a wonderful vine and branches art-piece with the support of Judy Busse and Cyndi Sturni (our artists). It's right in the hallway on the way to the church. We'll put up household photos all along the painted vine. Feedback? Here's the original mock-up:

Flowers
Sign Up Master List is posted to the left of the office door. You can sign up there, call the office (928-7026) or respond to this email to Make a Memorial or a Thanksgiving for a loved one ($30/Sunday). We are in the season after Pentecost: Flower donations are encouraged. There are always applications for flowers in the back of the church ($30).

Vestry Notes
Next Vestry meeting is June 10th. We will review our mid-year budget, repair items that need to be addressed, plans for the summer. Dave's vacation starts on July 1st. No July Vestry meeting. August meeting will be chaired by available wardens as Dave will be on the J2A Pilgrimage. 

Buildings and Grounds
Our current plan is to repair the floor in the kitchen around the dishwasher over the summer as a volunteer initiative (Rich DiBonaventura). We have some roofing work to do where there was winter damage on the church roof outside the Sacristy (the Roofing Store). The Roofing Store is also checking re-newed leaking in one of the Rectory chimneys. We have received some quotes for work on the organ which we are currently sorting through; Dennis Patton is helping assess this with the Foley Baker company. Still to go, plumbing items in the upstairs Rectory bathroom and a blown pipe in the wall (sounds bad, probably is not as the access is from the basement). We're switching over to Charter for internet and phone but this is taking a while.

Shawl Ministry:
 Blessed shawls on the back table in church (fill out the log book). We have had a number of folks respond with thanks after receiving one of the shawls. Rebecca Patenaude, Coordinator
