In the Church School:

A big Holy High Five this week to Abigail Stevens!  She participated in enthusiastically and with real interest during chapel time and the Lego workshop.  Thanks, Abigail, for bringing open eyes, ears, heart and hands to Church School!

Godly Play will have a special Baptism Sunday this week!  They will meet downstairs to wonder about the Sacrament of Holy Baptism at the usual time, and then go upstairs early to sit together and witness the Baptism of one of their peers.

Our final Potter's Workshops (Lego and Storytelling) continue this Sunday for grades 1-4. Students in 5/6 will meet with their leaders to work on Youth Sunday preparations. As Youth Sunday approaches, we will use chapel time to practice music for that service.  Please support our efforts by having your child(ren) join us as often as possible this month.

If your child is attending the Heifer Field Trip next Sunday and you have not signed permission slips and waivers, please see Amy ASAP! An email reminder went out this week to those who already signed up but have not yet completed all necessary forms.  (Amy also has information if you are interested in chaperoning.)   There is still space available for a few pre-K through grade 6 children, at no cost to you!

here is the flyer for the Heifer Fieldtrip (May 24). Thanks.

Christ Church School Co-directors, Amy Landis & Nicole Nichols

Teen Program Notes:

Rite-13ers: Looking ahead, on May 31st, the Rite 13 will run the service at church, so please have your children come as often as they can between now and then. (This is also the final Contemporary Service for the season)

J2Aers: One last fundraiser, 10th Annual Rummage sale, was last Saturday... we made about $3300! On to San Francisco!

YACers: Active Graduating Seniors: It's that time for making an application for the Von Conta-Koerner Scholarship. DEADLINE: May 24th!

Remember that applying for a scholarship includes a commitment to address the church by giving a Credo Statement on a Sunday in June. Application can be found here

The Labyrinth

First Take
Seventh Sunday of Easter, homilies at all services.

The readings are Acts of the Apostles 1:15-17, 21-26 (Matthias is chosen as an Apostle after Judas' death), Psalm 1, I John 5:9-13 (God's gift of "eternal life" in Christ) and our Gospel is John 17:6-19 (Jesus' "final" prayer at the last supper concerning his friends)
The full text of the readings can be found  at the Lectionary Website. HERE

Whenever we read that Jesus has made "eternal life" available to those who trust him we often translate this as "long life or forever-life after death". While there are some passages in John that refer to what might happen after we depart this world like Jesus' comments to Mary.... "in my father's house there are many mansions", in almost all cases "eternal life", is more about quality of life, now. Eternal life is that depth of purpose, courage of action, patience in adversity that we can experience as we travel with the Lord everyday. The ups and downs don't change but we can respond to them differently. Dave

Adult Forum Experiments!
Do we want more conversation on the readings, or on current national or international issues and how they relate to who were are as Christians, or local issues? Guest speakers? Anyone interested in helping? :>) 4-5 sessions next year starting in September or October.

Special Mission Outreach
Mitzi Davis has reserved 10 spots in a PID trip to Guatemala leaving on January 2nd or 3rd of 2016. 4 folks already signed up. It costs about $1300 (includes airfare from Boston, accommodations, food, etc.). We're thinking of $600 a person subsidy from the church from the Special Mission. Can you do $700? This is a medical and building project mission trip. (Rev. Dave is planning to go as well).  Here is the website! Here is a PDF about the base price before airfare and some general instructions. You will need inoculations for Guatemala as well. Our trip is not yet posted.

Spirituality Workshop Experiments....
This Saturday, May 16th, Spirituality Workshop with Oscar Brockmeyer: Naming and Nurturing your Relationship with God....

From his materials:

Join us for a time of reflection, discussion,
and creativity.

The session runs from 10 am to 12:30 pm-
in the great hall.

All persons of any spiritual tradition (or none)
are welcome.  Invite a friend!

Take home a guide to the Ignatian Daily
Review way of praying.

Group Spiritual Direction as well as One on One work to anyone in the community within and beyond the church is available. Here is an overview. He is also starting a Tuesday evening group. 860-942-2934 orobbrockmeyer@snet.net for more information.

Vine and Branches "Directory" Project
The fifth grade wants to put up a wonderful vine and branches art-piece with the support of Judy Busse and Cyndi Sturni (our artists). It's right in the hallway on the way to the church. We'd put up household photos all along the painted vine. Here's a mock-up:

Your Stewardship!

How your gifts are "invested"!

Thank you for your generosity!

Stewardship: Visions and Ventures
Your pledge remains the most important source of income for us to continue our ministries, by far. Thanks! See to the right, both pledge materials and a pledge card download. Right now our Pledged Income is $190,000. Thank you!
How about Pledging and Donating by eCheck, Credit Card, etc.? And more, keeping track of your own donations in the same secure way? You now can with our direct on-line option:

(Note: when you wish to access the Christ Church easytithe donation site you will need to go through this button, here on the Reminder, or on the website. It will not work on the easytithe site directly. That log in is for account managers.)

Flowers
Sign Up Master List is posted to the left of the office door. You can sign up there, call the office (928-7026) or respond to this email to Make a Memorial or a Thanksgiving for a loved one ($30/Sunday). We are in the Easter Season: Flower donations are encouraged. There are always applications for flowers in the back of the church ($30).

Vestry Notes
Thanks so much for time well spent with Bishop Ian this past Sunday. It was an excellent conversation! Thanks again to Vestry who stayed late on Mom's Day!
Next Vestry meeting is June 10th. We will review our mid-year budget, repair items that need to be addressed, plans for the summer. Dave's vacation starts on July 1st. No July Vestry meeting. August meeting will be chaired by available wardens as Dave will be on the J2A Pilgrimage.

Buildings and Grounds
Our current plan is to repair the floor in the kitchen around the dishwasher over the summer as a volunteer initiative (Rich DiBonaventura). We have some roofing work to do where there was winter damage on the church roof outside the Sacristy (the Roofing Store). The Roofing Store is also checking re-newed leaking in one of the Rectory chimneys. The snow blower went off to Tractors to Trimmers for oil change and tune up. We will be switching over to Charter for internet and phone lines at the church on May 19th. We have received some quotes for work on the organ which we are currently sorting through; Dennis Patton is helping assess this with the Foley Baker company. Still to go, plumbing items in the upstairs Rectory bathroom and a blown pipe in the wall (sounds bad, probably is not as the access is from the basement). There is part of an ash tree down on the north end of the property to be taken down. Tim Bates will be back soon to work on one of our graves out back that had winter damage.

Shawl Ministry:
Blessed shawls on the back table in church (fill out the log book). We have had a number of folks respond with thanks after receiving one of the shawls. Rebecca Patenaude, Coordinator

Sunday Gifts for Access.. Suggested Sunday morning donations: canned vegetables, canned protein (chicken, tuna, ham, beans and etc.), pasta, deodorant and 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner. List? Click Here

Outreach....  Next cooking for Community Kitchen on June 21st (no CK in May) at the 1st Congregational Church of Woodstock (the Hill Church). Contact Pauline Phillips at Christ Church. CSO Committee meets periodically to recommend grants.
