One way to get to know folks in the church and to find a "place to land" if you're a visitor or newer member is to come to Coffee Hour. This is our connection-time at Christ Church. A second way is to make an appointment with the Rector..... join an organization.... or take part in the St. Nicholas Fair!

Church School Notes....
CSTeenFeb214

Important Reminders:

Student parts for the annual Christmas Pageant will be assigned this Sunday, November 30th, so please make every effort to attend Church School this week!  Children in all grades will begin learning songs, chimes, and spoken parts. This is always an exciting time of year to get involved, even if only "behind the scenes".   If you would like to help out, please contact Amy Landis or Nicole Nichols as soon as possible! If you cannot be here (traveling, etc. let us know of your interest via our email)

The Christmas Pageant will be held Sunday December 21st at 10:15am at Rectory School's Tang Auditorium (across the street).  A "dress rehearsal" will be held the day before (Saturday, Dec. 20th).  All parish children from preschool through teens come together each year to bring the Christmas Story to life with music, singing, dialog and narration!

We had a great time making our Advent Buzzards and decorating Advent Wreaths last Sunday!  (Thank you to everyone who helped out- from donating greens to "gluing, snipping, and wrapping"!)  If you were not able to join us, there are a few wreath frames still available (see Amy or Nicole), and leftover evergreens outside near the downstairs entrance to church school.  We can also supply you with prayers to use with your wreath, starting this Sunday. The Advent Buzzard materials are in Dave's office and we can make that available for you as well.

See you Sunday. Have a blessed Thanksgiving!

Music accompaniment links will follow soon thanks to Donna Bessette!

Housekeeping:

If you are not currently a Church School volunteer, but would be able to assist us with Christmas Pageant preparations beginning November 30, please contact Amy Landis or Nicole Nichols.  This is always an exciting time of year to get involved, even if "behind the scenes", and help is always needed! The possible "jobs" are not very time consuming. Your presence on Sunday morning is the key. We are especially interested in folks who are new to church school activities.

We'd LOVE your old Legos (those you're not donating to the Fair)!  We are looking at a new curriculum called "Building Faith Brick by Brick" which we'd like to pilot in the winter/spring.  It is similar to Godly Play, being very hands-on and involving student 'wonderment' about liturgical stories.  This might be a hit particularly with our grade 1-2 group!  If you have unwanted Legos at home of any kind, please consider donating them to Church School for this purpose.

As cooler weather approaches, it is especially important that we remember our Church School outreach by collecting food and toiletry items for ACCESS/Daily Bread.  Please pick up a copy of our list of suggested donation items at the Church School sign-in table or on the back table in church, and have a conversation with your child about ways you might be able to help out...  The children are especially proud when it takes several of them to "haul" our heavily laden basket up the aisle in church. A copy of a needs list can also be found HERE

Access Food Items... Your Sunday morning donations are very helpful for folks in Pomfret and south of us, Brooklyn, Danielson, etc. Items that are most needed include: canned vegetables, canned protein (chicken, tuna, ham, beans and etc.), pasta, deodorant and 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner. As the holidays and cold months approach, you may also consider a monetary donation to Access. For every $1 that you donate, Access can purchase over $13 worth of food or toiletry items at the CT and Federal Food Banks! The Fuel Assistance program is also in need of monetary donations.  You can send checks to: Access Danielson - 231 Broad Street, Danielson, CT  06239. Please be sure to specify "Danielson Food or Fuel Assistance" in the memo line to make sure your donation stays in our community. Thank you so much. The Food List can be found HERE

Meals... Casseroles, etc can be left in the freezer in the kitchen. You can email us in the office if you need. Pam Mulcahy, Assoc. Headmaster at Pomfret School, has been in touch with us about Food Ministries in our area. She and a group of students are planning to do some "freezer stocking" for us in December! Thanks.

The Story

CSO....  Please note the building that houses the Community Kitchen in Thompson is being sold so we're not sure where or if our Community Kitchen effort will held in December. The umbrella organization is currently working on this (not Christ Church). Hopefully we'll know soon.
