Newer Members Dinner (with the Vestry) is scheduled for Sat. Nov. 8th at the Rectory at 5:30 p.m. (521  Pomfret Street). Invites have been mailed to addresses we have but feel free to come: 860-928-7025. Families are invited with young people!  The flyer is HERE

One of the other ways to get to know folks in the church and to find a "place to land" if you're a visitor or newer member is to come to Coffee Hours during the year. This is our connection-time at Christ Church. A second way is to make an appointment with the Rector. Or join an organization. Or in the late fall to take part in the St. Nicholas Fair!

Communion Class for 2nd Graders and older with a parent is scheduled for Saturday, November 22nd at 10 a.m. with Fr. Dave. Art, music and cooking are used with a Thanksgiving theme to talk about the meaning of communion. This class is offered seasonally. If you are interested call the office by Nov. 16th so we will have enough materials. Class only runs if there are advance sign-ups! Last minute sign-ups are possible during the week of the 16th but at that point check to be sure the class is running.

Stewardship (Visions and Ventures) 2015  Visions

Our theme is Welcome to your church: Sharing the Feast. We're looking forward to another season of discovering how to be a church in this place, at this time. Our Visions and Ventures has begun. The mailer should be in your mail soon along with your most recent contributions statement. A PDF of our mailing can be found  HERE

A Copy of the Pledge Card will be posted shortly

Steve Adams, Jr. Warden & Rite-13 Leader was our speaker last Sunday. His talk can be found  HERE

All submitted pledges will be recorded and saved together over the 6 weeks of our campaign. December 12th will be Pledge Sunday when all written pledges will be placed in the offertory basket as part of our gifts, a symbol of what these mean to us... gifts to God.

A recent quote from a parishioner....

"We feel fortunate to be a part of the living community at Christ Church. We realize that it takes active participation to keep an organization like this running properly, and that is why we pledge time and money to Christ Church. I invite you to consider what Christ Church means to you."

Amazon Smile Program
Amazon.com will donate .5 percent of eligible purchases to Christ Church. You can access that through the link below. You can still shop through your own account but Christ Church will benefit as many items that you can purchase are eligible for the donation.... We are already beginning to have payments from Amazon so keep up the support! Thanks!

You can help with the Flowers.... FlowersAgain Would you like to be part of the flower program at Christ Church? You can participate by donating flowers that you purchase on your own or by signing up to have them purchased for you. The Flower Sign Up Master List is posted to the Left of the office door. You can sign up right there....... or call the office (928-7026) to Make a Memorial or a Thanksgiving for a loved one. If you sign up during the summer you can bring in flowers from your garden and leave them in vases on Saturday morning by the sacristy door and we can arrange them!

Gretalyn's Service: Some in the parish have asked for copies of the remarks and reflections that were shared. We are starting to assemble them.

Church School Notes....
CSTeenFeb214

Reminder:

This Sunday, Godly Play and grade 5/6 will meet as usual at 10:15. Grade 1-4 Abraham & Sarah Workshops will include a game, cooking and Bible variety. (Only one more week after this for our current Potter's Workshop rotation!)

It's not too late to sign up for an Advent wreath!  In two weeks we will be decorating Advent wreaths with fresh greens and candles in the Great Hall as our Church first activity!  (Fr. Dave and Christine Carter have promised to make Advent Buzzards as well.)  It is sure to be a fun event for the whole family!  We would appreciate donations of fresh evergreen clippings (such as boxwood, cedar, holly, juniper, etc.)  These may be left outside the downstairs Church School entrance beginning next week.  See the November Courier for more details.

If you are not currently a Church School volunteer, but would be able to assist us with Christmas Pageant preparations beginning November 30, please contact Amy Landis or Nicole Nichols.  This is always an exciting time of year to get involved, even if "behind the scenes", and help is always needed!

We'd LOVE your old Legos!!!  We are looking at a new curriculum called "Building Faith Brick by Brick" which we'd like to pilot in the winter/spring.  It is similar to Godly Play, being very hands-on and involving student 'wonderment' about liturgical stories.  This might be a hit particularly with our grade 1-2 group!  If you have unwanted Legos at home of any kind, please consider donating them to Church School for this purpose.

As cooler weather approaches, it is especially important that we remember our Church School outreach by collecting food and toiletry items for ACCESS/Daily Bread.  Please pick up a copy of our list of suggested donation items at the Church School sign-in table or on the back table in church, and have a conversation with your child about ways you might be able to help out...  The children are especially proud when it takes several of them to "haul" our heavily laden basket up the aisle in church. A copy of a needs list can also be found HERE

The biographies and photos of last spring's celebrities are also there.

Dr. Murray Buttner has written a letter to his patients which I have copied and printed  HERE    with his permission. It outlines the particular importance of getting your flu shot this season.

An Appeal from Pomfret Community School: As you may have heard, one of our local families lost their home and all of its contents in a fire.  There are some specific things that the family needs right away. Items can be brought to PCS directly. A list of items is found HERE

Hannah Flath asks for old T-Shirts to use in her volunteer work in the Boston area:
(T-Shirts can be brought to church and left in Fr. Dave's office)
I have been volunteering at Bird Street Community Center, which is a non-profit organization that serves as an after school program for low-income Boston families. I work mainly in the arts and crafts room. It has come to my attention that parents are increasingly unhappy when kids go home covered in paint, glitter, et cetera, which is very understandable! I was wondering if you could possibly ask Christ Church members if they could donate large old t-shirts that could be used as smocks for the kids.

Hannah Lee Flath
Shawl Ministry: Right now we have a number of blessed shawls on the back table in church (fill out the log book). There are also a number in the closet outside the main office. Shawl knitting meeting at Judy Miller's, TBA; Shawls can be blessed by request anytime. Next in-church blessing TBA. Nancy Reif can be contacted through email Here

Access Food Items... Your Sunday morning donations are very helpful especially items that are most needed: canned vegetables, canned protein (chicken, tuna, ham, beans and etc.), pasta, deodorant and 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner. As the holidays and cold months approach, you may also consider a monetary donation to Access. For every $1 that you donate, Access can purchase over $13 worth of food or toiletry items at the CT and Federal Food Banks! The Fuel Assistance program is also in dire need of monetary donations.  You can send checks to: Access Danielson - 231 Broad Street, Danielson, CT  06239. Please be sure to specify "Danielson Food or Fuel Assistance" in the memo line to make sure your donation stays in our community. Thank you so much. The Food List can be found HERE

Meals... Casseroles, etc can be left in the freezer in the kitchen. You can email us in the office if you need. Thanks.

The Story

CSO.... Soup Kitchen meets again at Christ Church to cook for the Community Kitchen in Thompson at 8 a.m. on November 24th. Please note the building that houses the Community Kitchen in Thompson is being sold so we're not sure where the Kitchen will be held starting in December. The umbrella organization is currently working on this (not Christ Church). Hopefully we'll know in another month or so.
