I will get into the details below, but I wanted to share with you a very interesting phenomena that occurred during the creation of SPOTLIGHT.

First, let me begin by sharing with you that 50 women from various backgrounds will become known to you as SPOTLIGHT's Inaugural 50. The first group of these 50 are already there to greet you from today when you enter SPOTLIGHT, and the remainder of the introductions will be made in the coming weeks. 

The women who were invited to participate are all very dynamic women at different stages of their lives and careers. They were selected based on varying levels of  awareness of and participation within the organization. Some had never heard of Wonder Women at all, while others had only minimal awareness about the organization and the events and initiatives we've produced so far. Some have been very supportive of our community-building efforts but have been unable to participate due to their location or personal circumstances, while a few have been very involved and have participated in our community-building efforts in some way.

These women represent diverse cultural, ethnic and economic backgrounds, are of varying ages, physical strength and emotional resilience, education, artistic talent, levels of success, life experience, accomplishment, etc.

What we found was that over 70% of these truly amazing women had difficulty describing themselves positively when asked to complete the following statement, "I am a Wonder Woman because I am..."

This simple acknowledgement of their positive attributes was truly challenging for many to state openly about themselves. The experience was so powerful in fact, that it brought forth a whole host of emotions for them, including those from past experiences, childhood and societal messaging.

For me, it is a reminder of just how important this work really is. I am committed to the belief that when more women acknowledge and own their positive attributes, talents, insights and power, and share them with other women, that we as a collective group can move this world forward.

I am committed to building an empowered community of Wonder Women and I know that this effort has no one single measurement of success. It can begin with this communication being shared with at least one woman you know.
